It worked correctly on the i730. Now the i760 is supposed to be the next generation. But how can they say this if the device is losing functionality?
You are correct, that select your BT device page is BULL!
We all should not stand for this and contact VZW!!!!!!!
It is not Samsungs design it is VZW calling the shots on how to cripple this device.
Are there any lawyers out there that can look into this? How about the lawyers that worked on the other BT class action suit v710 or what ever it was?????????????????
VZW has stepped way over the line with this one.
I'm not so sure that VZW is responsible for this. It seems like whenever they cripple something, it's because they stand to gain from it. Like when they crippled BT picture and ringtone transfer on the Mot V710 way back when. I don't see what they gain from this particular inconvenience.
I can think of only 2 possible explanations for Samsung to do this, and even they seem a little odd. Despite the bugs in the i730, Samsung usually puts out a solid product.
Possible explanation #1: Someone over there had reason to believe that this would be a convenience of some sort. Although for the life of me I can't think of what that reason might be.
Possible explanation #2: There was some issue with the BT stack, and a developer decided that this would be the way to fix it, and get the phone released, until a permanent solution could be found. Working in IT, but not being a developer, this is only a partially educated guess. It might, however, be one of the reasons that the phone took so long to be released.
Anyway, what do I know. This is only speculation on my part.
Yeah, you can have multiple profiles active to different devices simultaneously, I can have my headphones as stereo headset and handsfree and my nuvi will still ActiveSync when I turn it on, then go pout in the corner when I sees it isn't my handsfree.
is it possible that this is connected to the fact that my bluetooth gps needs to be re-paired when i turn it off?
being that i already paired it once shouldnt it hold its pair and just reconnect when i power it back on?
i did change the registry key from a 0 to 1 (or 2 or 3) and it made it so that i no longer have to use create-a-port any longer.
now only if i can keep it paired when the device is turned off.
im still an I730 loyalist
I just spoke with Samsung level 3 also-they acknowledge that it is a bug and they are working to see if there is a fix-This is not a VZW issue from what I was told. They have not had very many calls to Level 3 so everyone needs to start calling and asking for Level 3- this will speed it up
I have had the i760 for about almost a week now and love it, especially over the xv6700 now that being said...
I am having a bluetooth issue too... I have a Pioneer P9800BT headunit in my car that does handsfree talking, but ALSO A2DP playback.
So, it was a b%^ch to get the phone to pair, but once it was and registered everything worked fine and all, but when I turn off the car and turn it back on the phone doesn't automatically pair, I had to go into the headunit go to telephone, function, and select "connect i760," not a BIG deal, but a minor pain in the A$$.
BUT for the A2DP streaming as I use the internet radio in my car the bluetooth stereo headset profile ALWAYS disconnects, so everytime I go into my car I have to manually connect (on the headunit) the phone for the handsfree (not a big deal) but ALSO then go into menu (on the phone) go to bluetooth settings and low and behold stereo bluetooth headset box is unchecked and so I have to check the box hit save then both the heandsfree and bluetooth stereo headset work on the my Pioneer headunit.
Now, on a positive note this phone works leaps and bounds better than the xv6700 ever did with my headunit, as it would disconnect after ringing one or two times after iniating a call etc.
I would like to be able to get in my have my Pioneer P9800BT automatically pair my phone and bluetooth headset (A2DP) without any manual adjustments though.
I DO at some point plan on buying a bluetooth GPS receiver, as I have tomtom 6 for WM5, but how will that impact me with this issue?
Is it possible to stream in A2DP, be connected hadsfree profile, and have a bluetooth GPs connected (via bluetooth serial profile I believe?)
How easy is it to create a program to edit the registry?
I'm thinking that a temporary fix to the handsfree problem would be to write a program that turns on the hands free for a BT device, then place a link to that program on the today screen or link it to a button press. You would need to press a button everytime, but it's at least easier than going through all of the BT menus.
I don't really have the skill for this, but maybe someone else does?

A program would be nice but until then have you tried this?
Assuming that the device is on,
1. Select the right menu.
2. Press the up navigation once.
3. Hit the Center OK button.
4. Select the BT device you won't.
5. Use down navigation button to select handsfree.

Yea, I knew about that route to the BT menu, but that's way too long for me to do everytime I get in a car (about 6-8 times a day). I really need a single button press at most.

I know long post!!!
Tom
If your phone is paired to your headunit and you park your car, when you return the phone should link up automatically. I dont think any of us have seen an issue where it is not. If, however, you are changing to a headset when you leave your car and pairing your phone with that, the headunit will not reconnect unless you select it in the bluetooth settings on the phone.
For you last question, if your headunit supports both handsfree and A2dp you will be able to also have a bt gps unit running.

If it's the same car (assuming you have a hands free BT intsalled in it) you dont have to re-pick the device. If it's the same BT device it should keep it selected as hands free. At least that's how it works for me.....

The thing is I don't use a headset the only handsfree device I use is my cars headunit and it doesn't auto connect, nor does the A2DP.
My wife, my daughter and I have automobiles with Bluetooth. The good news is that my Samsung SCH-i730 would not pair with any of them, but the
i760 pairs with all of them. The whole address book gets tranferred to the cars, (and it's pretty large, an outlook address book which has grown over a period of years). So far voice dialing through the one car's bluetooth system I've tried to use to date returns, a "Voice Dialing is not available," message. I wonder why.
So far I've paired the 760 with two phones and a motorola stereo/phone headset. When I switched cars, I had to pair the second car with the 760. When I went to use the headset I had to re-pair it with the 760. It looks as though I also have the problem voluminously reported in this thread.
So I called Samsung tech support got to tier 2 explained the problem he couldn't get A2DP streaming even working, yet I can, but it takes some steps. I want to have the phone connect the HFP automatically to my Pioneer headunit then also automatically connect the A2DP streaming. He said sorry we don't have a solution and that was the best answer he had, totally dumb. He told me to check back in a week. I don't see a fix anytime soon, hopefully one of the geniuses on here or XDA will figure it out.
After all those months and months of delays due to failed testing and bug fixing, I cannot believe this one got by!

Any chance we can get on with finding out if anyone has any info on a fix? Has anyone gotten any type of news from Samsung? Any news as to if anyone is working on a fix? Any news from SuperDave or anyone else?
Yeah, unfortunately until Samsung admits their HFP selector is a bug, not a feature, and they find a way to select available headsets dynamically based on paired devices in range, and they submit the fix to VZW, and someone at VZW writes a 110-page request to have the feature released, and 7,800 man hours are spent reviewing the request, we're stuck having to play Russian Roulette with DLL substitution hoping we can find a compatible stack with a Bluetooth audio gateway that doesn't break A2DP and enables pairing to the first or best available device.
I've started fumbling with ROM DLL substitution by same named RAM DLLs, but I'm an amateur at this stuff. As Michael has said, this clearly is not a registry hack. It's going to be a matter of finding the right btag DLL combined with feeding it the right registry settings that may be set wrong or missing because our stock DLLs use what they need.
Odds are, we beat Samsung if we get enough people hacking at it.

You may have to beat on VZW. Samsungs hands may tied.
