in tinkering, i noticed that ON THE I730 (havent got a i760 yet )
there is a way to get the bluetooth gps working without having to use create-a-port (mrailing you know of this). in the registry i changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\bluetooth\device\0081b0e313
from a 1 to 2.
that made it so that now the only issue is that i have to re-pair!
im sure our issue lies within that registry setting...
i tried this yesterday ON MY I730. i`ll keep tinkering until i figure it out as i am not worried about bricking my phone (wink)
It's "partially" a registry problem, and partially the DLLs being used for the bluetooth stack. Talking with someone more in the know, trying to swap out the DLL could result in total loss of mic audio on the device, both over bluetooth and on the device itself.
I spent a good two or three days working on it, but I just haven't dug deep enough in to it, nor do I have the knowledge to rip apart the files to find out what they are doing to try and fix it.
It's not going to just be a registry flip, I can tell you that...

I've been having issues trying to copy the dll's off the 730 and save them elsewhere to test. Have tried total commander on the device, and also explorer on the desktop. Get either a "cannot copy" or "access denied" error. Any suggestions?
I also plan to test a 6800 when they come out next week, just to see what the bluetooth deal is, although if you look at the 6800 forum for the Sprint device, there's plenty of complaints there as well about bluetooth and many other issues.
I'm having a similar problem with BT too, but I'm not sure if it's the same as everyone else. I am only using one BT device (not two) which is the hands free speakerphone in my Prius. The phone always connects to the car fine. However the handsfree check box becomes unchecked after I shut my car off. It's not like I have two competing devices, just one. I am shocked that samsung/VZ would release the phone with such a glaring bug. I mean, BT basically doesn't work and everyone uses BT these days.

I have the same problem with Prius.
The BT connection drops very often, but sometimes stays for whole trip.
It is very unpredictible.
I also don't have any other connections set in BT - only handsfree with car.
Before I had the Motorola e815 and BT was solid like a rock.
And before I had XV6600 - with a lot of BT problems. Even after upgrading different BT stacks and ROMs, it never was perfect - one of the reason I dumped XV6600.
Why PDA can't have the BT implemented the right way?
I like my SCH-i760 a lot, but the BT problem is not acceptable for me.
I'm still within 30 days and thinking to try something else, but what?

I noticed the same thing. When I go into the BT settings and select my device, "Handsfree" is unchecked. However, this does not stop it from connecting the next time I get in the car. As long as you have the correct device set in the "Headset" tab, you shouldn't have a problem.
As for the BT disconnecting, I can't say I've seen that problem. If more than 1 person is having a problem with the Prius, then it may be the system in that car. I have Acura's HandsFreeLink in my TL and I haven't been disconnected once.

I actually noticed this as well. Whenever I go into one of my devices, its profile box is unchecked. However, I have had zero problems with the active device connecting or disconnecting. So far it has been very reliable (knock on wood).

I don't think it is Prius.
As I said Motorola E815 never had a problem.
I noticed that the Handsfree box is uncheck, but it is always connecting to the car BT after ignition is turn on, but very often it does not stays connected. Disconnect happens sometimes very shortly or much later or just stays on.
It's not the prius. I don't have disconnecting problems, just the checkbox issue. My 730 worked great with the prius (except not being able to transfer the phone book).
I have been following this thread for a while now, I don't have the i760, but am planning on getting it and this issue will make or break it for me. In reading the manual for the phone, on page 149 it make the statment "Tap the Yes soft key to set the Hands-free as your default Hands-free
device." This after adding another device like the car. In all the registry edits isn't there one that will eliminate a "default" device. This is just like having more than one printer on my computer, I have to go through a bunch of extra steps to get to the 4 others I have. If there isn't a something to eliminate the "default" maybe there is a way to make them all the "default" device.
I hope something is found soon as I was really looking forward to getting this unit. Mrailing, I am keeping my fingers crossed that after the weekend you or Superdave have found a way to fix this.
Thanks for all the good stuff I read on here everyday!

The box unchecks, but my nuvi still connects again and again. The only time my nuvi complains is if I use my headphones. For me, the unchecked box is just a visual bug.

But can you answer incoming calls? My phone always connects, but since the phone doesn't have the car speakerphone set as handsfree, it won't ring to the car. Only the phone. I confirmed that this isn't just visual by going into the registry setting and looking at the BT registry entry for my car (search the reg for what you named your BT device). The handsfree entry was 1 when checked and 0 when uncheck.
Level 3 told me they are aware of the issue and have referred it to R&D Dept.
I had the guy on the phone confirm that it did not work himself by testing with two headsets.
All I got was a "I don't have any more information, call back in about a month to see if we have any more information then."
So no promises of an update for sure.
I suggest that as many people as possible hit up to level 3 on this just to log a case, and call your verizon reps and complain about it.
Make sure that you let them know that it worked correctly on you i730 and all other WM device that you had in the past. Let them know that you hope that VZW didn't intentionally cripple the device to work like this.

Yeah, I can. When my nuvi is off, Bluetooth settings for it show Active Sync and OBEX Push checked, and Handsfree listed but not checked. When I turn the nuvi on then look at the list, Handsfree becomes checked. When I receive a call, I get on-screen notification identifying the caller using my named contacts. Both ringer and Voice Command notification audio come from the phone, but that is the other Bluetooth issue because once I answer, sound transfers to the nuvi.
I believe this is because on the headset page of Bluetooth settings (waay to the right...), the nuvi is SET as the handsfree. The design of that headset screen sure makes all this look very intentional by Samsung, BTW.
Where I run into trouble is once I turn on my headphones. First, they turn on in pairing mode because they don't see the partnership they want on the i760. When I go enable stereo headset, the headphones start the pairing process. Once that succeeds, the headphones are marked as a stereo headset and handsfree.
Once I do that, the headphones are the SET handsfree on the headset page. If I shut off the headphones and turn on the nuvi, it will sync contacts then pop up an error that the phone has disconnected (because it's done synching.) That's when I have to force the nuvi to handsfree and I lose the ability to connect the S9 without doing the rain dance.

And this isn't how it should work.....
It worked correctly on the i730. Now the i760 is supposed to be the next generation. But how can they say this if the device is losing functionality?
You are correct, that select your BT device page is BULL!
We all should not stand for this and contact VZW!!!!!!!
It is not Samsungs design it is VZW calling the shots on how to cripple this device.
Are there any lawyers out there that can look into this? How about the lawyers that worked on the other BT class action suit v710 or what ever it was?????????????????
VZW has stepped way over the line with this one.

But I just paired my s3 mini to the i760. On my treo I could not have two bluetooth devices paired at the same time. In other words, I couldnt have the gps working and talk on my headset at the same time. Now, I can. Is that news?

The problem isn't in two different devices like th Garmin and headset, it's when you have multiple devices like multiple bluetooth headsets and they don't automatically reconnect. For example. I have 4 different bluetooth devices I connect with on a regular basis: Parrot 3200LS (handsfree), Plantronics 645 (handsfree), Plantronics 655 (handsfree), and BlueAnt Interphone for the motorcycle (Handsfree). They ALL use the handsfree profile. On the i730 I was able to have bluetooth enable, and then just bring one of the devices that is paired within range and it would reconnect, and I could use it. When it went out of range, or I turned it off, I could then bring any of the other headsets on/in range, and they would automatically connect.
With the i760, you have to go to the Bluetooth settings, headset tab, click on the headset you want, click "Connect Handsfree" and then it will connect. As long as you continue to use the same headset, it will connect each time (well it works this way about 50% of the time for me). So every time I use a headset while sitting at my desk, then go out to my car, I have to manually tell it to switch to my car's bluetooth, instead of it just working, like it does on my i730, RAZR, and EVERY other bluetooth enabled device.

I started this thread, believe me I know the issue.
I was just suprised to see that work becuase my treo didnt do it. while the treo would switch between as many devices as you had, the i760 doesnt. I was interested to know if both functionalities were present on other devices.
