I just switched from a Treo 700W and absolutely need the threaded sms application. (If you had it, you can't go back.) I tried using the instructions that I usually use for my treo ... WM6 Threaded SMS Install Instructions for nOObs. w/pictures - TreoCentral.com
... but the /Program Files/Palm Messaging isn't showing up.
Has anyone else tried installing this program? If so, have you been successful or know what to do in order to get the SMS softkey? I have it installed somewhat, just want to proceed to get the SMS softeky.

Ya it works, but does your left softkey show SMS? That way you can access it easily? Thats the only trouble I am having. I am working with the person that wrote the script to try to figure this out.
Also, when I'm using it, i get really small txt sometimes. This happen to you?
I'm not a big SMS guy, primarily because my brain doesn't think well in T9 mode. Palm made SMS on the Treo 750 more like an instant messaging client, by making SMS conversations threaded. I love it. I can send a message, respond, get a response and follow the conversation even if the messages are several hours apart. Having a full keyboard gets me to use SMS, having it work more like email or instant messaging with conversation tracking makes it easy to follow what's being said. You get a SMS thread for each conversation you're having. The one trick I noticed in this is when someone you message sends a new message instead of replying. The new message starts a new thread even though the message was really part of the previous conversation. I'm chalking that up to a limitation of SMS at this point, but hopeful Palm can figure out a way around this in the long run.
I've tried it and it works, except it breaks receiving MMS messages. The threaded app tries to handle them instead on the built in MMS app. I get an "out of memory" error and never receive the message.
I guess I'll be researching other threaded apps. It's a pity, the Palm version worked really well.
SMS = Short Message Service, a 160 character message service, also known as TXT Messages (Text Messages).

after the install, i seem to be getting my messages in the new Palm sms program as well as the original wm messaging program. is this happening to anyone else? any ideas?
Did you soft reset after you installed? Did you make sure your OEM SMS program was empty before you installed?

thanks michael, i think i may have had a few messages in the oem program before i installed. after a reinstall, i dont have the same problem.
- is there any way to have it how it is on the Treo 700Wx where you click the left soft key and a small menu comes up so you can select either sms or messaging?
- any way to get the message shortcut button on the keyboard to work? mine says "error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename

Go to the Buttons applet in the Settings menu and adjust button 3, that is the keyboard Envelope button and you can choose which you want.
Since this is a third party app, not like the Treo where it was built in, the OS doesn't know that it should be apart of the messaging list. So it won't show up there.

I can't get the cab file installed for the life of me. I got the cab file from the link in the 2nd port of this thread. I have tried both of the cab files contained in the zip on that site, same results:
'Installation of WM6_threaded.cab was unsuccessful'.
What am I doing wrong? Where did you guys get the install of this app?
just popped back in to see how the i760 is working for you all. i put threaded messaging on the Tilt and it does break MMS...voice command also can no longer read your SMS.
however, if the i760 uses ArcSoft MMS, the XDA folks figured out that if you downgrade your ArcSoft MMS version, MMS will work again, albeit in a separate account than the threaded SMS. spb phone suite and phone alarm find the right accounts for the on-screen buttons so there're really no extra steps to do an MMS message.
i won't post links to other sites or to the older ArcSoft MMS version. just search over at XDA.
Finally got it working. The way I was doing it before was download the zip file to my PC, extract the two separate cab files and email them to myself. But it seems that the files were corrupt when i did that. So i installed Total Commander, downloaded the zip file and extracted the cab files directly on the i760 and then was able to install the threaded SMS app. Surprised what i was doing before didn't work since i've done this in the past with other apps.
