did a search for threaded text mobile software and came across these links. i have not tried them yet, so i dont know if they will work.
I have actually used Textr, it's not bad at all...

The second link you provided is the link to WMExperts previously mentioned in this thread to the Threaded SMS Messenger application that everyone is playing with.

I forgot about testing the textr application, I might have to give that a swing on the next hard reset (oh in about 20 mins...)

Since it doesn't have an MMS plugin for Textr, it might be nicer for those that was Threaded SMS without the hassle of trying to "fix" MMS...

Long time reader 1st time poster. I have 2 points to make.

1st: when I first downloaded this program and it caused my MMS to not work (before the registry fix) I downloaded Textar and hated it. No trial, said it was expired as soon as I ran it. It also turned EVERY button on the left side of the phone (windows, camera, ok) into a textar shortcut. If the program wasn't actively running I wouldn't receive texts, some times texts would not be received even when it was running. I would also get an error message about the backup location, when I tried to move the backup from the storage card to the main memory (there is an option) it wouldn't let me. Overall I'm quite upset I wasted my $ on Textar.
2nd: For all those who are not sure how to do this registry fix, neither was I. I must have spent 4 hours looking for the registry. Following this thread (with no ?'s) I found the answer when someone mentioned a registry editor program, so please take the time to read the posts this thread is only 5 pages long. I know this is only my first post, but I had to get that second part off my chest.

This is very important to always keep in mind, almost all PDA Phone software has a 15-30 day trial... Use it, don't purchase the software until after the trial ends. If you don't have enough time with it, a hard reset and reload will "repeat" the trial. I have purchased almost $1100 in software in the past few years (just looked at the Quicken category). I don't use but about $150 worth of it, the rest going to waste because it was poor software, or I purchase on a whim...

Yup, textr has some issues, and their board is currently down. So hold off on it for a bit. I tried this when it first came out on a month or so ago on the i730. It has the potential, but they have some bugs to work out...

I got the same error on my i760 about an hour ago, it expired when I just loaded it...

Anybody have any ideas how to fix the dual MMS notifications? I'm poking around the registry and playing with settings.

I tried out Textr the other day and it slowed my i760 and Treo 700Wx to a crawl (when trying to txt). I'm not sure how you got it to run smoothly mrailing, if you tweaked it at all please let us know. In my experience, anything that requires .Net 2.0 seems to run extremely slow, not sure if they are related or not.

Thumbs down

Textr didn't exactly work for me either, first of all the download that came straight from their (Textr) site, was already expired upon installing it... So I didn't get the chance to even try it.

But a good friend of mine did try it and it wasn't all that smooth really, needs work still.

When i click the "Messaging Button", the Account selector comes up. The SMS account is no longer listed as one of the accounts. Only: Outlook, MMS, Yahoo.

I can scroll down to the messaging bar on the Today screen and select SMS, but its not showing up in the account selector..

Any idea why? Also, when in outlook, i cant click right/left and go to the SMS..

I can live with this, but it would be cool to fix it..

This is by design, since this application is NOT tied to the Messaging app. Before when you hit left or right it would go to the Microsoft SMS Inbox. This application isn't part of that, so you can't use the left or right, it's a standalone app.

I tried Textr....looks great...runs like crap. First install I put it on the card and it kept just closing itself. I'd try to scroll down to a thread with the DPad and Textr would just close completely.

So then I went for an install on the device. Whenever the screen was off, txt msgs didn't come through and a few times locked up the phone so bad I had to soft-reset.

Too bad....it's pretty.

I ran the cab did nothing else (no registry tweaks and it works fine). Granted I don't use mms so I don't know if that functionality works or not. I did notice that the mms server was set to some sprint server. Only thing I wish was that it was integrated into the default messaging app. I love this besides that. Thanks for the software.

Have we come up with one tried and true installation method yet? Seems like everyone still has one issue or another?

Just know that when you get an out of memory error... it is not your i760 acting up... it is somebody trying to send you an MMS.

I am getting that memory error also. But it does not seem to be someone sends an MMS but a TXT message.

I did the tweak and it appeared to work wiothout problems (just using SMS). however, my recipeint has not gottne any of these texts (sent since yesterday). How do I solve this? When I check the messaging app, the "Sent Items" box acknowledges the messages that I belive were sent (were sent).

I wrote an email to SPB software house inquiring about a potential threaded message software program from them. I got an email back saying that they had received similar requests from other users. I'm hoping they put something out on the market. It would got great with the rest of their software suite.

So I aplogize if this has been mentioned... I didn't read the whole thread because I'm not really interested in threaded SMS.

However, I noticed that PocketCM has threaded SMS as far as I understand what it is. Hope this is helpful.

I did use the search this thread feature to search for PocketCM and didn't get any results.

everyone with the problem of not being able to find the correct key to copy and paste, i had the same problem. the reason why you can't find it, is because it's not there. some apps modify the registry. in my case it was textr. i tried it before coming upon this thread. even after uninstalling textr, the registry stays modified and the needed key is missing. i had to hard reset my i760 to get it back. i know that some of you tried hard resetting to no avail, so i'll outline exactly what i did step by step, just in case the order of actions has anything to do with it. so:

1. hard reset the phone (hold down the middle enter button and hit the reset switch - you should see "clearing data" on the screen)
2. send an sms and mms to yourself to make sure the service works and it's not a verizon problem.
3. install resco explorer and registry plugin cab files (since you'll need them for this operation)
4. clear out your sms and mms messages to eliminate conflicts later
5. open task manager and close all running tasks
6. install the threaded sms plugin
7. open resco and do the registry mods:

a. Using a registry editor app, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByGenericId
b. Delete the PC10 key (folder).
c. Find the key that has a 'Path' value of "\windows\MMSBallon.exe" and copy the 'GenId' data value. It should look similar but not identical to 80409F46E414C801 (this should be the first key in the ByGenericId folder).
d. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByCTAndAppId\application/vnd.wap.mms-message\Default
e. Change the Default data value to the GenId from step 5.
Navigate to
f. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Palm\Varnish\Messaging\
g. Delete the MMS key (folder)
h. Soft reset.
