Actually I didn't delete that one that goat said, just the PC10 and then copied that other value as that I stated.

Hope that helps.

Ok, this is great, but a bit confusing to follow with all the revisions and stop and starts. Would one of you fine upstanding citizens recap from start to finish the correct procedure?

Maybe make it a sticky?

If someone hasn't recaped it I'll take a stab at recapping it on sunday. We wont make it a sticky but it will likely become part of the FAQ when that gets written up.

Here are the directions as I understand them:
1. Install threaded SMS application found here.
2. Using a registry editor app, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByGenericId
3. Delete the PC10 key (folder).
4. Find the key that has a 'Path' value of "\windows\MMSBallon.exe" and copy the 'GenId' data value. It should look similar but not identical to 80409F46E414C801.
5. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByCTAndAppId\application/vnd.wap.mms-message\Default
6. Change the Default data value to the GenId from step 4.
7. Make sure threaded sms & stock mms are not running and do a soft reset.
This seems to be the way others are getting this to work. It works perfectly for me when using SMS, but when I go to Add > Picture and send (resulting in an MMS) I get a "out of memory" error. And if I go into Menu > Options > Advanced, Manual is already selected. I tap Edit and there is an MMS url for sprintpcs.com. For those that have this working with MMS, what does your advanced settings look like? I would love to get this working. If we could get the steps locked down and clear it would be great.
Thanks.

I am wondering if anyone has this installed that is not experiencing some random glitch. I love the sms threading, but little issues like that really sit in my craw. I ran it on the Treo 700Wx and it worked as if it shipped that way, in other words the integration was seemless.

You can't use the threaded SMS app for MMS messaging. You'll need to use the factory MMS program that was included with the i760.

I'm not sure if this was brought up yet but its a BIG deal.

The type of registry editor matters. I was using this one registry editor and the values I was getting was far different from the examples. Then I switched to Resco Registry Editor and then was getting the values similar to what everyone was talking about and got MMS to finally work with Threaded SMS.

zfly, so I'm understanding you completely. You are able to send MMS messages (a picture message for example: Menu > Add Media > Add Picture) through the Threaded SMS application?
Also, what settings does the app have at Menu > Options > Advanced?
Thanks.

MMS does not work from within the Palm Threaded SMS software. When you install the Palm Threaded SMS the i760 will not recieve any MMS messages whatever. The only way in which you can start to recieve MMS again is to apply the registry changes outlined in this thread. At that point you can use the Palm app. for threaded SMS and you can use the original messaging app for MMS/Email/Etc.

Nope, they are just able to work. For a while I wasn't able to get MMS messages. I was able to send but not receive.

Directions look good, but I would add to delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Palm\Varnish\Messaging\MMS

This seems to keep the Palm app from fighting with the stock MMS application. Also, you need to make sure the MMS application and the Palm application are not running prior to changing the registry, otherwise it won't let you modify/save it.

You can not use Palm Threaded to send or recieve MMS, it doesn't work right, and why would you want to? The application that comes with the i760 is awesome!

So, I would change it to:

1. Install threaded SMS application found here.
2. Make sure threaded sms & stock mms are not running.
3. Using a registry editor app, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByGenericId
4. Delete the PC10 key (folder).
5. Find the key that has a 'Path' value of "\windows\MMSBallon.exe" and copy the 'GenId' data value. It should look similar but not identical to 80409F46E414C801.
6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByCTAndAppId\application/vnd.wap.mms-message\Default
7. Change the Default data value to the GenId from step 5.
Navigate to
8. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Palm\Varnish\Messaging\
9. Delete the MMS key (folder)
10. Soft reset.

I’m getting two notifications (today screen, get the “New MMS” notification on both applications), so there is some kind of handler that is notifying both applications, haven't had time to figure it out. If someone has figured it out, please post fix. My next mission is to get the version with animated smilieys working....

I use Resco Today Plugin. The app shows me my battery life and my memory usage for both storage memory and programs memory. After installing the threaded SMS app I know have 2 icons for program memory. I tried uninstalling and re installing both Resco and Threaded SMS apps, but nothing is making it go away as long as both are installed. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

In order to get rid of the inactive MMS account from the menu when you go to send a photo.

Go to:
HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts

Delete the MMS key.

You download the CAB file and copy that CAB file to the phone. Run the CAB on the phone to install, and soft reset after it is installed.

CAB Files are installer files for Windows Mobile devices. Do NOT unzip before getting it to the phone.

a couple of users earlier in this thread talked about the small text size in the threaded app. I'm experiencing the same thing. It seems to go away after close the app and re open it. It also sometimes goes away when i close a conversation and re-open it.

I have also selected in the notification settings for the Palm messaging SMS to not vibrate and it still does.

Didn't experience either of these issues on my Treo 700Wx and 700w with Palm messaging installed.

Hey guys,

I usually never sign in and I've never actually been an active participant in this forum or in any forum for that matter, but I have been an avid reader for 2 years and have found everything for my 1730 and now for my i760.

I'd just like to say thank you to mrailing, superdave, tange1, and everyone else for being so generous

I just have one request if anyone can help me. I followed every direction on this thread and I have no problems sending SMS or MMS, or receiving SMS. The only problem I have is not receiving any MMS.

Can anyone suggest any solutions as to why I can't receive MMS??? Please help.. it's really buggin me. Thank you in advance.

Either what the previous post said, or that you didn't delete the two keys.
