I've tried it and it works, except it breaks receiving MMS messages. The threaded app tries to handle them instead on the built in MMS app. I get an "out of memory" error and never receive the message.
I guess I'll be researching other threaded apps. It's a pity, the palm version worked really well.
Here is the fix for the i760:
1. Install threaded SMS (cody version) normally.
2. Delete the following registry keys:
Make sure threaded SMS & MMS are not running and soft reboot afterward. The only issue I've had is when I receive a MMS, the notification appears (today screen notification) on both MMS & threaded SMS, which is annoying more than anything. Functionally, it works perfectly.

Can anyone else back this up as working? If so I think this is a good candidate for the FAQ and can be packaged up as a CAB installer for mrailings tool pack.

Ok, I'm a little confused. The ID is different from phone to phone, or did you change a different key? I still get two notifications, I would love to know which key you changed so that you only get one.....

This won't be in the tools pack, the tools pack is standalone and isn't dependent upon any software to be installed. With the current software I am using to generate a CAB file, I can't remove a registry key, only change them. So depending on how this works, it looks like it will be a manual change.

I am a first time reg editor so I want to make sure that I get this right before I go messing around with it. Do I delete the whole PC10 folder or just the pc10 file within the pc10 folder.
Secondly, where do you copy the ID file from and to?
Sorry if I sound dumb but I don't want to go messing things up.
HKLM\security\PushRouter\Registrations\ByGenericId\ then select the first key. Should be a long Alphnumeric number. Goto the GenId key and copy the value....

I followed these instructions to the last detail but to no avail, I'm till not getting MMS messages delivered to my phone. Would of been nice to be able to use this app as it seems like a very nice way to send SMS...
Thanks again.

Is anyone else using this app with SPB Phone Suite? I am having a problem where only about 20% of the time will the SMS today plugin and the SPB Phone Suite Icon show that I have unread text messages. The other 80% of the time both these read 0 messages, but I have the notification button on the left soft key.
You will change the value of Default = to whatever your GenId value was, that you copied.
5. Then make sure threaded SMS and stock MMS are not running and do a soft reset.
This is how I got it to work without problems, should work just fine, getting all notifications just fine now and SMS and stock MMS are working fine. For MMS messages you will still use your stock application.
Much thanks to everyone!
