I discovered a very reliable threaded SMS client for Pocket PC Phone. It handles both square and rectangular displays. It has some good configuration options for the display and has an excellent popup notification functionality too.
Downsides are that it only runs on WM 5.0 or better and the license needs to be activated.
Otherwise, a nice simple application which is not so hot on graphics and presentation but has good functionality/setup opions.
Anyone get this working in PhoneAlarm ? I configured it to be the primary SMS client, but I no longer see alarms via PA. Also, when I click on the SMS button in PA, it still goes to the old Outlook Mobile. SMS-Client does have its own notifications.
I am also having two of the problems mention here that have no answers.
1. I don't get any notification of texts until i turn my phone on.
2. My friends are angry at me because every message I send them is recieved 3 times. The ones without unlimited text are threatening to break my legs.
So I got my i760 back in Oct. I installed the cody SMS package. I have been using it religiously since. I wanted to use my MMS now and so I deleated the Palm SMS package before I realized there was a reg edit to make MMS work. I have since tried to reinstall the Palm SMS, now my left softkey still says messaging, instead of SMS. I have been working on this for 5+ hrs now. I have hard reset my phone 20 times, and reinstalled the cabs with every fix listed in this thread. I have done the reg edits and the SMS part works (other than the soft key issue) my MMS doesn't. I would love some help if possible. Thanks in advance........
Apologies for my first post being a question, but I could use some help.
I followed the instructions in this thread after reading it in its entirety, and I'm happy to report that SMS are working as advertised, and MMS functionality has been retained. Many thanks to all those who experimented.
I have one problem: my phone vibrates upon every incoming message. Vibrate is unchecked for "New Messages (Palm)" in Sounds and Notifications. I got it to play my desired sound upon receiving a message, but it still vibrates AND plays the sound. It even vibrates when the sound on the device has been turned to "Off." I foresee this being a problem in a meeting or something when I need it to be silent.
I may have found some information on my problem with the duplicate text messages being sent. The problem lies in the threaded application. If the app gets completely closed without receiving confirmation from the receiving party then it thinks that it never went through so the next time you open it or it opens itself to receive a text it will resend the last message. Then if you quickly read it and close it again it goes through the same problem again.
I found that people in the treo forums were having the same issues. Since I was using pointui and for some odd reason it closes every app when your done I kept having this problem occur. I changed some settings today so if I turn out to be wrong I'll let everyone know.
I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but people should really give "PocketCM Contact" a try. It is a normal install - no overwriting files or getting into the registry like that Palm hack. It is FREE - which was my main interest.
It is a bit funky - you have to click and hold the SEND button for 250ms to send a message. The developer says that is to prevent accidental sends, which I admit I have had before. It also is useful because it tells you right away in the thread if a message doesn't get sent. With the default SMS app, I would have to go into Drafts and resend it - this feature alone makes it worth the install.
It is not perfect - I do have some complaints - but I have to say it is the best FREE SMS app that I have found so far.

Reason: corrected the name!
is it possible to send/receive mms without enabling verizon's evdo network? I disabled it because I don't have a data plan, but everytime I want to send or receive, I have to re-enable it. This is a problem because I don't always know when somebody is sending me an mms. Is there a way to hack the registry or an application that can do this?
OK - I read this entire thread and still am unsure IF this is the solution I am looking for or not?
Does anyone want to weigh in with a definitive yes or no? I want threaded SMS (text messaging) so I can finally make sense of the occasional multiple-conversations at once issue.
Im with "espyonage"...Palm Threaded is working great except for the fact that it always vibrates when I receive a message even when the phone is set to ring or silent. Can anything be done?
I was having the same problem with the vibrate on each text message despite turning off the vibrate. I then found a different vibrate box. Look in the Today/Settings/Sounds and Notifications/Notifications/Event= Messaging: New Message(Palm). I unchecked the vibrate box and voila, no more vibrate. Hope that helps you too.
