Well, after using the Discount Cell case for a while, I think I will have to get a new one. The price is fantastic, and mine seems sturdy. I can fit the phone in the case with either the regular or extended battery. While the extended is not a great fit, it also is not about to fall out. (Note: I have the screen facing out.) You can't open the phone with it in this case, but since I don't text message or surf that really isn't an issue for me. Overall, I would recommend this case.
However, I usually keep it hooked to the strap of my purse. It has been knocked off multiple times, despite me thinking it was on securely. I think it is simply an issue of the thickness of the strap. The pivot connection takes up a goodly amount of space between the clip and the case, which doesn't leave a lot of space for the strap. So the clip ends up being a bit open, and the purse strap sometimes slips out. I think that this case is a great case, particularly for the price, if you use it differently than I do.
So, I'm back in the market for a case. I think the front runner right now is the ExtremePDA metal case. It doesn't have a side-view of the clip, but looks to be of a style that would work. I get a little nervous with the talk about the top coming unhinged, although I wouldn't be opening mine up much.
If the Seidio had a clip, it would be a contender as well.
Oh, that is interesting. I didn't realize that the holster works with the case (or skin, as they call it). However, I think I would have the same problem with the clip, based on the limited side view provided. The pivot mechanism seems to protrude into the clip area and reduce space for any strap.
Can anyone comment on the clip space for the Seidio?

Anne That is a holster not a case. You should look at the discountcell leather case.

Well, yes, except I want to be able to use my PDA without removing it from a case. So in reality I guess I'm in the market for a holster, not a case. I actually have a reasonable slip-in case that I might switch to for the interim.
Can anyone comment on the clip space for the Seidio?
This is the holster for the unskinned phone, but I imagine the clip is the same. That space about triples when the clip is fully opened, if I know what you are asking for.
Thank you so much for posting that, JDCJ. It looks like I would encounter the same problem. My purse strap would keep the clip from fully closing, and an unfortunately placed nudge would cause the strap to slip out the opening and the phone to fall. And I have managed to do that unfortunately placed nudge a few times lately. I must be getting clutsier because it is happening more in the last few weeks than since I got that holster.
issue : trying to load a pdf file stored in my external memory slot using picsel browser, however during the loading process, picsel throws out a message saying " memory is ful, close the document? "
question : how do i open this huge pdf file(11 mb) w/o getting this error. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

info : I have a samsung i760 with windows mobile 6.
I think you have the wrong thread, but understandable considering it's your first post. (If a moderator can bump this and the initial question to it's own thread...) Not to hijack the thread but I have not successfully opened any .pdfs over 10.5 megs using Picsel. I think the limitation is the available program memory. After a soft reset I am left to believe that it is not possible using Picsel, I haven't installed adobe reader on this device, but you may want to try it out.
The second one seems to offer a little more protection but is a little bulkier. I assume that they both allow me to completely use the phone in every way without removing the case?
just got the Seidio cases and the holster and so far the fit and feel are OUTSTANDING! The cases do add some thickness to the sides, but nothing that I won't be able to get use to. I have not tried it but I think the desktop cradle and my Dremel will have to meet for some elective surgery
While typying in landscape the directional pad feels somewhat cramped for a right press. The "qwerty" row of letters has a little less room than before, but I have yet to hit the call button like I frequently did in the past.
The cutouts on the sides are well laid out and are really good landmarks for hand placement.(the END button is more pronounced and less likely to be accidentally pressed during a call)
At this point the cases and holster are well worth the time spent waiting and wanting these items and the $$ too.
just my first thoughts,
Devon
any feedback on getting the seido case to fit into the OEM desktop cradle?
I got the first one on ebay for $9 shipped. It works and fits great, and the clip and its mount are completely removable. Only downside is it only works with the regular battery. It removes easily too if ya wanna switch over to the extended battery.
I decided to go ahead & order the metal case from ExtremePDA, and it arrived yesterday. (link to case)
- It does have enough space in the clip area for the purse strap. My other case is about 1/16" clearance, and this one is about 1/8" clearance.
- The case does seem like it would provide decent protection to the PDA. The case protects most of the PDA, leaving open all the buttons. As you can tell in the picture, the screen is covered & you can't get to the stylus; you have to open the case for that. And you can't open out the keyboard unless you open the case. But that is easy to do.
- HOWEVER, the clip broke. It looked intact when it arrived, and I assembled the unit. But almost immediately the part of the clip that screws into the unit broke. I have sent them an email asking for a replacement. I don't know if the clips are really that weak or if this particular one was defective or damaged; I have to imagine the later.
- Sleek it is not. The design of the clip makes it protrude much further from the unit than most clips. I've seen clips of that basic style that were less pronounced. It certainly would not do for putting on your belt, IMO. I think it will work fine for my application, since I have the bulk of my purse anyway.
- I am a bit nervous that, even with a non-broken clip, I might accidently release the clip. You press a button on the end of the clip in order to disconnect it. That seems like a location that is far to easy to be hit accidently. If you did wear this on the belt, I could see it being release if you bent over to pick something up.
Overall, while I think the case itself is fine, I'm not impressed with the clip. Bulky, prone to break (at least the one I got), with a design that might accidently release the phone.
I obviously havn't used the case enough to know the lid will stay on for me.
Re DiscountCell case, I thought I'd share an update after my initial findings (below).
I've been using the case for almost 6 weeks. All of my comments below are still accurate, but I have one to add:
Swivel clip ratchet has become so loose that it spins with the slightest of touches. When I put it horizontal, I sometimes find that it has been knocked to beyond horizontal, starting to be upside down.
At that point I start worrying about the flip-cover & magnet. If it's upside down and the cover gets opened, it could conceivably slide out... like in a taxi.
So either (A) the manufacturer has to re-engineer the swivel ratchet so that it stays tight after the first few weeks of use, or (B) I have to buy a bunch of these cheap cases and use them as disposables...
When the swivel ratchet gets too loose I'd discard the old case & reach for the next one. But at my initial rate, I'd be going through new cases every 1-2 months. Seems silly, wasteful & not eco-friendly.
I hope "A" will happen but I'm starting to seriously think about "B".

and I figured I'd share my feedback on it, especially compared to the Gobile case I previously used (see my pics from a few posts earlier in thread)...
* 1. Clip is very tight!
This was my #1 reason for switching cases so that's good. If this new case doesn't fall off my belt in the next several weeks that's a good sign and I'll likely stick w/ it.
* 2. Wider by a good 1/4".
* 3. Stiffer, cheaper grade leather.
* 4. Sticks up a little higher above belt.
* 5. Therefore, it's bigger, harder, more obtrusive & uncomfortable to wear.
* 6. Magnet is stronger.
* 7. Have to put screen facing out, because of magnet screen-flip. Gobile was opposite... it had to be facing in, which I like better.
In the end, the 2 significant issues are #1 & #5. And clip-tightness wins in the end.
Ah... these gadgets and their never-ending trade-offs!

So, it sounds like almost everybody is saying the same thing. We want a case such that
1) You can use the i760 in the case, including being able to slide out the keyboard
2) You can use the case with the extended battery
3) The case has a spring-detachable belt clip (not a holster).
Am I right? Am I leaving anything out?
And while there is a wide selection of cases that do any two of these three things, no case does all three, right? The boxwave is perfect, except that it only works with the standard battery. And the Seido is perfect, except that there is no belt clip. The Seido does have a holster available that goes with the case, but, personally, I think that is unacceptable, because holsters are bulky and heavy, and hard to grab the phone out of quickly, and you can't lie down while you're wearing it, without taking your pants off.
Right now I'm using the boxwave, and it's just fantastic until about 5PM when my phone runs out of power, because I can't use it with the extended battery.
So, does anybody know of any case that does all of those three things? If so, I will buy it right now this very second, at practically any price. I know that a year from now, there will be ten choices. I'm frustrated that there are currently zero to choose from, as far as I can find.

I certainly don't, but if someone finds one yell!
Through no fault of it's own, my boxwave holster broke. I was abusing the poor thing by forcing in my extended battery. It was OK as long as I let it be, but taking it out & putting it back multiple times proved too much and a piece broke off. Too bad it wasn't designed for the extended battery.
ExtremePDA was very responsive & sent out the replacement clip right away. So no complaint on customer service! Not sure I really like the case, although I am using it. While my purse strap fits in it, it still manages to slip out somehow. (Never had this problem w/ my previous phone.) So for now I have taken off the clip & am putting it inside the purse. This doesn't work as well as it might sound, because sometimes my purse is inside my briefcase / backpack. Just try getting to it before the call goes to voicemail!
