I'm on the east coast and it took about 8 days for it to arrive. Seems mail delivery from England can vary quite a bit.

I agree with Thai... just be patient.

I ordered a GPS 2000. I am having it shipped with the free shipping. Hopefully the it will be faster than standard mail.

just got mine. This is my first gps unit so my first impressions are very uninformed. It is a very sexy but simple looking device, charged very quickly, paired easily, seemed to take a minute or two to find satelites but did get my location correct once it did.

I posted this in the two review threads for both our original and new GPS unit but thought it might be useful to add it here as well

I have put together a short video on how to connect the GPS unit to a Windows Mobile 2005 Pocket PC. I will hopefully get time today to do some more for 2006 PPC's and 05/06 WM Smartphones and will edit this post with links once they are up.

The video uses the GPS 2000 unit but the process is the same for all bluetooth GPS units (Passkey may be different). The video also uses GoogleMaps but most navigation software is the same (you go into setting/options and select the GPS source).

Well my Freedom ain't so free anymore. The Freedom GPS I bought about 6 weeks ago seems to have died. Freedom Input seems to think that it lost its firmware somehow but won't cover any shipping charges to get it back to them in England. Still waiting to see if TreoCentral (where I bough it) will help out even though it's over their 30 day return window.

I ordered the new Freedom GPS 2000 and have sent the company numerous emails about the peeling finish on the device with no response. I am surprised that I have not received any response....

Just got mine. Actually I ordered the older model. I sent them an email and they shipped the new 2000 model. That or they dropped shipping the old altogether.

Who did you send it too? I'm the technical manager for freedom and have not seen any emails regarding the finish (and there are no raised support tickets with this issue either).

This would most likely be covered under the warranty so we could replace it. If you can send me an email paul@freedominput.com with a photo of the unit/peeling finish I can get you an RMA sorted out

Please let me know who you sent the original emails to as well so I can investigate that as well. I'm guessing it might have been sent to Chris but she was at CES last week and is on holiday now so has only had limited email access. Still would normally get forwarded to me though so keen to pin that down.

Paul,

Here's an image of what's happening to the finish on the GPS 2000 when used on a keychain. Although I would prefer it to stay as new, it doesn't affect the function.

This is also happening to mine. Interestingly (annoyingly actually) enough, it is also happening to the finish on the top and bottom of the i760. I believe its the same smooth matte black finish.

I think they all do that. Mine did. I peeled off the rest and now it looks "new" again. If you're peeling it off, don't use your fingernail. The pads of your fingers work much better.

My suggestion... instead of replacing these units because of a bad finish, just offer people a discount off their next item with you. Personally, I wouldn't want the hassle of sending it back just because of a peeling finish.

Paul - you are correct that I sent two emails to Chris. Didn't know she was aways at CES and vacation. Just shot you an email with picture. Unlike others, I really prefer to have a unit that doesn't look as torn up - so a replacement product with a new finish is my vote.

Taking the advice of wickedwheels above, I used my thumb to peel off that (protective?) layer and now have a (mostly) pretty unit again.

Thanks for the photos. Looking into it now and apologies for anyone having problems with the coating peeling, anyone else having problems with the finish should email me at paul@freedominput.com

Looks like some of the first run units where done with a different protective coating which doesn't seem to be as durable as it should be. Checking with the factory now but at worst it should only have been the first 100 production units that will be effected.

Anyone thats wants to send it back for a replacement can do (drop me an email above). I'm also waiting on a few spare cases to come through so I can check how easy it is to replace so if people just want a replacement case this might be a possibility as well.

I took one of the first run units that was effected and one from the latest batch and the coating on the first run unit does seem to be wearing off after being on my keys for a week (the newer is fine).

Once again apologies for anyone who has this, it should only be a small amount of people thankfully.

Id take a replacement case. My unit currently looks like it has leprosy- sending it back seems like it would take awhile and be a pain. Thanks.

Help with device

Paul,
I contacted you a while back about getting the original mini working with my I760. I have since also tried it with my old I730 (WM5) after a hard reset of the I730. Looks like the same problem. I get to the point with double blinking blue light but then it doesn't successfully send the location. As stated before, I've tried another GPS device on both PDAs and was successful. After I did the hard reset on the I730 and followed your directions exactly and failed to get it to work, I am seriously thinking I have a defective device. I've tried to reach you all through e-mail, but have not gotten a response. Can you help me out?
Thanks,
Brian

Hopefully Paul could help me think through this-

I am an avid outdoors person and really like the ability to use the BT Freedom GPS unit when I hike, kayak, etc.

However, when I got on multi-day trips, I am worried my GPS will die after only one days use. I really want to have the ability to plug in either a solar-charger on my pack or a AA-to-USB solution to charge it.

Is there a power output I should be aware of? What challenges do you all see?

Thanks!
