I finally talked to the tech dood at Popularelect.com( and they said it's most likely the 14th or 16th that the SGH i760 will be released, but to call back next week and they'd most likely have a solid date.. so that seems to all fall in line with the dates given by Ethan and the other rumor sources for the SCH-i760. I said it would have been June or July if they hadn't screwed up stuff..so yea. From what I understand they're getting both SCH and SGH Pocket PCs on the same date..for what I think is way too expensive a price..but this is what I was thinking of POSSIBLY doing provided I had money which the concept alone is a hoot to me..But please tell me if you think this is possible (who knows, maybe others may be interested in doing this as well as I'm seeing MUCH dissatisfaction with Verizon a lessened desire for the SCH-i760):
If I used my NE2 to get the SCH-i760 and canceled the contract within the allotted time, but paid the price of the Phone, would I have to return the phone as well with the ending of the contract or could I keep the phone? I'm assuming I would have to return it but I thought I'd ask. The reason I ask is because if I could get the SCH-i760 and sell it on ebay for the retail cost, I could use that money to possibly run away from Verizon for Tmobile to use the money to get an SGH-i760 with their 1900 frequency mobile service. The tech told me emphatically that the Text and Voice Mail would definitely work in the US AND Overseas with no problems, and seemed pretty informed on the phones as I probed..as you know I ask a lot of questions. Does anyone know or remember Verizons' policy on this? I'm not saying I'm definitely leaving Verizon for sure by any means, but I've really gotten really sick of them.. I'm just considering....Strongly...Not like they'll care if I'm gone anyways.
Oh anyone who wants to see the SGH-i760 and it's specs can see it here at:
One question you forgot to ask is how you could sleep with yourself if you could do this.
That question aside, why would you want to go to a network that is totally lacking a decent footprint in the US?
Third, if you cancel a device in the trial period, you must return it. However, if you keep it past the trial period you can keep it, but you have to pay the early termination fee of the contract. I am not sure it is cost effective to do that.

Wow.. I have heard so much hype about the SCH 760 that I haven't been able to find anything about the SGH recently. I have been one of the lone grievers of the verticle keyboard and crummy "upgrades" to the SCH. This is truly exciting news! I have been with Verizon it was still Bell, but this may finally win me over...I'll have to try. Please keep us informed as to when it will be coming out and for which carriers.
You get $100 for NE2, and it costs you $175 to terminate your VZW contract... You would be better off paying full price for the i760, not extending your contract, and terminating your contact as soon as it's up.
Really it would make no sense to buy the SCH-i760 if you are going to turn around and sell it... You really can't do any type of switcheroo to get it cheap and make a profit, and you would be better off putting your money directly in to the SGH-i760 and bypassing the SCH.
I also agree with perlmane, why would you want to hit tmobile? Check the service area, pretty poor footprint and quality, make sure it's available everywhere you want to go. Also if it will work for Tmobile in the US, then it will work for AT&T in the US as well, they use the same GSM frequencies...

First of all I HATE the horizontal/Landscape keyboard in the SCH-i760 or any others, and LOVE the vertical one in the i730 so it's a perfect match. I want to stay one handed. I LOVE my i730 and this is an actual upgrade to it, it's the same form factor I love, but thinner, beautiful looking (not ugly like the other one..look at ANY site for the SGH-i760 they practically all say the same thing on that and the other points), has a slightly better camera, a webcam, comes with WM5 and if anyone gets WM6 on to the i730 I wouldn't think it would be that difficult to get it on something that is set up the same way minus the GSM and camera aspect..unless of course pdadb is right in that it comes with WM6.
I think you laid a great emphasis great on data network coverage from what I could tell from other posts if I remember correctly. Yea I know it's EDGE technology but it's not better than what MANY are jumping boat for in the iPhone. Yea they complain about that but most times I only get 1X anyways, and I believe EDGE is better than that at least is it not? For other Samsung phones like the i830 you can use the Dial code hack to use Data and voice at the same time.. and wonder if you could do that with this one. Besides it does has WIFI.
Also I checked the coverage for it in my area and it's just as good as Verizons.
EDIT: I missed that most of the posts have it listed as HSDPA which would render basically broadband speeds apparently between 1 and 3 megabytes per second, and the EDGE is like the backup, kinda like we have EVDO and then 1X. So if you ask me, I that's pretty sweet.
I thought you'd say that..I figured it wouldn't help me to get anything out of the NE2..other than that I think I would sleep as good as I do now. Did you have somethings in mind I missed? You talking about Tmobile?

I hear you and figured that was the case with trying to take advantage with the NE2. Thanks. I actually didn't know AT&T used the same frequency..I had always stayed away from them after a short lived bad experience with their land line service..it was abysmal, but I guess they'd be different in terms of cell phones and are probably better with coverage than TMobile. Thank you very much for letting me know that. Do you have any experience with AT+T?

If you look at the beginning of the SCH-i760 thread many like myself confused the SGH-i760 with the SCH-i760, and were drooling over the SGH-i760 thinking we were going to be getting it for Verizon. You're definitely NOT the only one who wants that keyboard. 1-3 people out of I think every ten posts I see talking about this type of keyboard say they don't like it because they have big fingers or what not. It works perfect for me though. I'm totally with you on the lack of upgrade and the keyboard on the SCH-i760, as those are my two biggest deal breakers for me..really I think the Keyboard alone I killed it the other point made it go very sour very quickly.
I think I've been with Verizon around that long as well (though long enough), and I'm definitely open to something new..but HOPEFULLY also something better. Gotta check the AT+T coverage, read up a bit, and ask quite a few people what they think of them before I'd weigh the options and switch. I believe both the SCH and SGH are being held up for the same reasons, I think because of the Qualcom chip suit..so they should be out at the same time. If I hear anything new I'll try to keep you posted and report back at this thread.
As for AT&T coverage, I have both VZW and AT&T. The differences between the two are quickly blurring. While VZW still has the advantage in most place I go, I am finding that AT&T is catching up and even surpasing them in high speed in many places. It looks like AT&T may even surpass VZW within 18 - 24 months. Because AT&T phones work globally, when VZW's advantage is no longer obvious, I will say goodbye to them.

I must have missed a thread somewhere. Is there a hack on the i730 to use data and voice at the same time? Please link me to this one if possible.
Back on track though, when you say the 14th or 16th for a release date, are we talking about August? I believe I will have to jump to AT&T if that is the case (and if they offer a better deal). I'm not going to pay $1,000 for the phone, but I may pay $500.

You cannot use EVDO/1x and Voice at the same time. You can use WiFi and Voice, however, but your battery will be dead quickly.
With the new changed tax laws for non-profit orgs, we're being given a cell phone "benefit stipend" now rather than the company paying for service. As such, we can now pick any provider we want, so I looked at T-Mobile since they will most likely be the first to carry the Kaiser. I quickly backpedaled - the best data access T-Mob offers is EDGE, and their coverage is just plain AWFUL. I live in a fairly large city, where we have region-wide EVDO for 40 miles in every direction. According to T-Mob's coverage map, I'd be lucky to get three bars in town, and once I'm out of town if I leave the freeway corridor, I'd be hosed.
No thanks. As much as I dislike big V, and want the features of the Kaiser, I want to actually be able to USE my phone a lot more.
Actually, simultaneous voice/data is theoretically possible with EvDO Rev 0, but neither Sprint nor VZW chose to implement it. We keep hearing buzz that the carriers will enable it in Rev A, but the networks have made no commitments.
In Sprint's case, only the Mogul seems to support Rev A (with a future firmware upgrade).
In VZW's case, no handsets yet support Rev A.
For the time being, Rev A seems to be a parade for aircards only. The reasons are obvious.
As to the SGH-i760, no US carrier will pick up this device as it does not handle 850MHz (the better of the two domestic GSM frequencies).
As nice a footprint/feature set as it has, it's just not a prudent choice for most US GSM subscribers.

We'll I actually just found a hack for the i830 to do voice and data at the same time, and was wondering if th i760 could do it too.
The link to do CALLS AND DATA fr the i830 is found here:

SUPPOSEDLY it will be August around the 14th-16th...but who knows, as these guys keep pushing the date.
I've seen prices range for the phone, but 1000$ is the most I have seen yet.
At popularelec.com they're selling it for 1000$ without a contract unlocked so that's why I think it's so much. Full retail for most of these devices when they come out is crazy like this. The i730 I think was somewhere around this price when it first came out was it not? I used to have tons of links for the device and a wide variety of prices I found from doing yahoo searches but when I formatted and tried to reload my old bookmarks from Firefox many of the bookmarks didn't carry over for some reason.
If you do a search I believe you can find it even lower than $500 like between $120-$300 but I had no evidence they were reliable or legitimate at all. With the Popular electronics store they list an address, with the BBB (which i don't think tells me that much), and I know people in Chicago that live around there that could check it out for me.

How is Sprints coverge in your area? Practically speaking I will be using my beloved i730, but the hook that Verizon really has me with is the in-calling..my girlfriend for one has an i730 with Verizon...And really everyone I know has Verizon. If I had extra money I'd really like to check this phone out though if not as a replacement definitely as a second phone.

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe you'll be able to change your icon at that point from a smiley that looks like he got run over to one on a beach sipping Pina Coladas

Sprint is better than AT&T or T-Mobile, but still weaker than Verizon in my area. You end up roaming onto Verizon's towers if you get too far out of the corridor. I just can't quite convice myself that Sprint is enough of an improvement over big V to make the switch - it's still power-hungry CDMA, and they're not much better about getting new phones. Although now that I'll be paying the bill myself, that $30 SERO plan that people have been talking about sure does look attactive; I could pocket the other $50 as a "mini-raise."
