Maybe we can get a larger extended Li-on battery for our SCH-i760?
Yea why not? People just need to let them know there's a demand for it..why WOULDN'T they have a motive to want to make it if they know people will buy it? As soon as I or anyone I know gets an SGH-i760 and report the exact specs and they check out, I will want to be asking Lion to look into making one myself.
What happened with the cnet review of the sgh? Also any possible way to get cnet to review the ii620/640(similar to the SGH-i1760 except no touch screen)?

I recently asked the guy at cnet, and he replied like a week or so ago so it'll take a bit of time before he can get one in his hand and try it out. I asked if he could let me know how I could get a notification on if/when they release the review so I'm still waiting for a reply on that. I'm hoping within this month? The more people who ask about it the better. About asking for a Lion battery for the SGH-i760 I want to hear a review of the SGH-i760 before I'd do that.
Just drop an email to the guy who deals with Smartphones/Pocket PCs at cnet which is what I did in regards to the SGH-i760 and or the other 2 phones, and he'll get back to you, it may take a few weeks but he'll get back to you. Lion same thing, don't be scared, just send them an email and I'm pretty sure they'll respond sooner to let you know if they will get working on that. With 5000 views or so I really hope I'm not the ONLY one in this thread who has tried to call or look into the SGH-i760 as if everyone is just waiting on me to do everything....? I would love to hear what anyone else can find out, even from their own local GSM dealers if Popular Electronics and World Wide Electronics are going to take forever to get them back in stock/get them in stock at a cheaper price.
Since this phone lacks any 850mhz capabilities, it would surely be crippled in the US in terms of voice coverage.
As for 3G data, if wikipedia is to be trusted, you may be SOL for that too, since the 1900mhz and 850mhz bands are used independently for uplink and downlink.

I could be wrong, but I actually I don't think that's the case. I can't remember which company it is but either T-Mobile or AT&T is locked to the 1900 frequency which this phone uses, so since the companies uses ONLY the 1900 frequency (and I believe only one frequency for data shared down and up) it should be fine. I BELIEVE T-Mobile is locked to 1900, where as AT&T uses both that and 850, but I could have it mistaken for AT&T. I called them a long while ago to ask them so I can't remember.
Also about data I can't tell you how many data sheets, wikipedias, and web pages that have said the exact opposite things..some saying one or both companies share the 1900, others say its independent between up and downlink, others say it USED to be independent but now its shared on one frequency..so I don't know about that. THATS what was in question for me..besides exhaustive/the most complete up to date specs..but based on what I understand from the techs I talked to say the other phones with the same exact frequency's as the SGH-i760 work just fine and sell well in the US.

You have this correct. AT&T uses both, T-Mobile is only in the 1900Mhz range.

but what about 3G data? if the phone specs say GSM1900, does that necessarily mean that it can also use UMTS1900 (because the sgh-i760 is only spec'd for UMTS2100, the rest of its bands are all GSM)? i was under the impression that the radios are seperate and that although they exist in similar frequency bands, you actually need the specific hardware & firmware to be able to use both bands.
They said they will try(cnet). I would like to see how these two devices stack up against each other. I hope that Samsung releases a dual band(GSM and CDMA) version of both phones. Like the i830 except good like both these devices are. We should all email Samsung and request this and WM6.1 upgrade for all current Samsung WM6 users.
Could we maybe use this with VZW? I know the BB 8800 and the Moto Rizr and the samsung i830 are all world phones on big red and they use vzw sims so to speak. So it is possible to use a VZW sim or something with this phone?

I will have no problem doing that. Cool to hear Cnet will try but for which devices did you ask for a review of? Dual band would be awesome, I just want the SGH-i760 form factor. I'm gunna call and email but I don't think it's up to Samsung is it? Samsung makes the phones for a vendor, which is what Samsung has told me, so its really up to the vendor to ask for what kind of phone they want Samsung to make. I think its Samsung though that takes the OS and makes it usable for each device though so I can email and call about that..even though I have already I can again. I want WM6.1 for the i730 and the SGH-i760.

I can try to call the companies again, but really many others need to call as well to show the demand for the SGH-i760 and or the other devices in the thread. Verizon doesnt use a Sim card, the i830 has the CDMA Verizon portion which is what Verizon uses only and the sim card is for a GSM company related/connected to Verizon..can't remember their name right now. Vodaphone?? Can't remember. Either way as of yet Verizon does not use GSM frequencies therefore does not use a sim card.
Ok so I took your guys advice and emailed cnet about the sgh-i760 and i750. They said, they will look into them, but they need further demand for it. So maybe we can make phoney emails and demand reviews of the phone?
Yeah I talked to Samsung and they said 6.1 maybe in the future if demand is good enough for all their phones like the Blackjack series, and our phone.
Well know big red is CDMA, but I thought they had a gsm sector, while else would they be selling world phones.
Maybe someone wild enough can take the insides(radio chip and stuff that make it cdma) of a sch i760 and swap it out with the sgh i760? The battery of the SGH looks similar to the batter if the sch?

What I don't get is how you can do a search for SGH-i760 and caome up with hundreds if not thousands of posts expressing huge interest in the SGH-i760, and this post can have 5000+ views but most don't say anything and they don't call Cnet. The Cnet contact I talked to said he wouldn't "try" so much as they will aim at getting one asap. Did the person you talk to say they'd try after they get more demand for BOTH phones or just the i750? Verizon has a GMS connection or affliate more so than a GSM sector. From what I understand its expensive to switch GSM sims out instead of just rent a satellite phone so yet again Verizon does NOT give value for the price you pay.. While that would be awesome to be able to switch the guts of each phone keep in mind they use different hardwares and it would take a lot of work to get the insides to work with the outsides..besides Verzion may or may not allow it if it doesn't recognize the phone. Also if no one can seem to get WM6 to work on the i730 as of yet who would be willing to do the phone surgery? I'm not discouraging it but wondering who in the world would be willing and able to do any of those things..
