Wow. That had to be one of the top ten flames of the century...
I paid $500 for my i-700, $500 for my i-730, $400 for my wife's i-600 and ... $50 for my i-760. Perhaps the build quality is not as good as it's predecessors (that remains to be seen - and a cracked screen could just be a fluke), but it was $50! Give Verizon a little credit for not making us bend over for this one.
I loved the one handed nature of the i-730, but having a keyboard that I don't have to check EVERY letter to make sure I didn't hit the one next to it has some merit.
I kinda missed the original post with red letters, so is that like a double whammy flame in one for me? I don't remember seeing one like that in the forum.
That's a sweet deal man. How did you manage that? You know whats weird is now that I got a backup line with a family share and since it was a preexisting device Im using (the i730) I cant get insurance..but it seems like with the little to no available i730 refurbs, I may be getting more choices for my replacement..either another device like the i830, the 6700, the Treo, the Blackberry, or possibly the i760. Is that how you got the SCH-i760 for 50 bucks? I do give Verizon credit for that nice move..I do wish ALL the representatives were as nice the one you talked to. It seems like I have to call 10-20 before I get a super nice consultant willing to go above and beyond instead of giving me "I hate working for this place and I hate you" attitude. As a former employee of Verizon I feel for them, but it still sucks.
I took some time out to call around and it seems that I have some more confirmation that the beautiful (3G) SGH-i760 is a REAL phone that HAS been released by Samsung I found at least 2 different things that point to this being true, besides what the tech at Popular Electronics (Popularelect.com) had already said about it so far.
I used to live in Chicago (which is where Popular Electronics is located) for years and years and know of the Devon St. area where the Electronic/Cell phone stores are that I called. I personally never had a reason to go into the stores because I didn't have a cell phone at the time when I was living there as a student in college, but I knew there were several stores that were clumped together somewhere around there.
REASON 1
What I found through calling around that area was a place called World Wide Electronics and a very nice non foreign sounding girl who knew what phone I was talking about in contrast to the SCH-i760. She told me that she knew it had already been released by Samsung, and that they in turn should be getting it in whenever their wholesalers got it. She said that I should try back in a couple of weeks to see if it had arrived by then, but that their continuing to stock it would obviously be dependent on whether there was a demand for it. Since I remembered that Popular Electronics decided not/or failed to notify me that they had gotten the (French) SGH-i760s in, at that point I decided to also leave my information to receive notification of if/when they know they will be getting it in. TO ANYONE WHO IS READING THIS who either do not want the SCH-i760, are open and looking around for an awesome Pocket PC as your first PPC or as an upgrade, and/or have had your sights set on the SGH-i760 phone, if you DO want this phone may I highly suggest calling World Wide Electronics ( as well as Popular Electronics whose contact info I posted in the beginning of this thread) to leave your information with them to have them notify as to if/when the SGH-i760 will be coming in and how much it will be.
This will let them see the demand, and see a reason to get it and keep it in stock. If Popular Electronics had over 100 orders for the SGH-i760 but had to return them and notify those interested in getting it that they couldn't sell it to them in French, then I think similar or greater demand for the SGH-i760 at WorldWide or either place would make sure both or at least one of them get it in stock (again in the case of Popular Electronics).
Theres another place or two I could mention but I don't have a probable enough reason to believe they will get the phone in. If I hear otherwise I will post my findings. If you guys know any other GSM import cell phone shops that are local to you please feel free to list their information if they have expressed interest in carrying the phone so that we can have a basis to compare prices to see who is selling it the lowest.
REASON 2
The OTHER thing that points to the SGH-i760 as being a real phone that has been released by Samsung is the fact that I have been seeing accessories and software being released for the phone in places like:
https://www.wavesecure.com/phones.aspx. Look in Samsung section they distinguish between the SCH-i760 and the SGH-i760 and have distinct pictures for each. Their program for both are in BETA.
So these are at least the 3 reasons why I have believe this phone has been released by Samsung and will be shipped out for sale "soon" (including what Popular Electronics has said being REASON 3). What also comes to mind is that since this phone is definitely not going to be having a connection to Verizon, I have no reason to believe it's release or ship date will be delayed like it was for the SCH-i760, so that's a plus
*These acessories may be a moot point IF they are confused listings for the SCH-i760 mistaken as being called the SGH-i760, or if someone can see if something like the charger(s) look identical to the charger for the SCH-i760. In that case there will only be 2 out of 3 reasons to believe this phone is being released, which is still something.
QUESTION TO SCH-i760 USERS: Do you how long it was between the time the chargers and other accessories came in and when the SCH-i760 arrived?
remember
PS: She also said there will be a way to change the default language to English, but that won't be known in detail as to where or how to do it IF it happens to be shipped in another language.
Lastly, I know I have plans and a desire to get this phone, but if you would be kind enough to post in this thread whether you want to get the SGH-i760 and or that you have left your info with both/either company, I think that ALSO would show the moderators that theres a demand for the phone and that would in turn give them justification for opening a distinct forum for the SGH-i760 in contrast to one thread in the SCH-i760 forum. Have a great day.
..they list the information that is under the battery. Since I can't seem to make heads or tails of the wireless.fcc.gov site, is there anyone out there that knows how to navigate the site to see if that FCC ID information actually comes up?
From where I'm looking at it it seems to say the FCC ID is A3LSGHi760.
Ok from what I understand Popular Electronics had 5 actual units shipped to them last Wednesday, which came in ENGLISH, and they sold out immediately due to prior orders for them:/ I asked when they'll have some next and they said they put an order in for some more, but we're told they won't be able to get any until after Christmas. So give it basically one more month and you can most likely get yourself a sweet belated Christmas present! That is most likely when the other company will get them as well so I hope that will bring the price down a bit by then..then again they're unlocked so they may stay high..from at least those places. I'm going to keep my eyes open.
I found out they are also planning on getting the Samsung SGH-i780 (BlackJack 2) for those that want a Pocket PC that comes with built in GPS and touchscreen.
The BEST news I think though is that Overseas Electronics is looking into getting the SGH-i760 as well I really hope they'll get it in, but even better if they offer it at better price. I have some more updated information but I won't mention it until I can get some sort of confirmation of it.
i think that 620 is pretty slick... and so is the i780!
I agree. Built in GPS is nice WITH the vertical Treoish keyboard. I really like the 620 but even though it is touchsensative it's screen size is kinda pipsqueaky. I of course love the keyboard and the form factor is nice and small.
Hmm I tried looking it up but couldnt find any info on it. Could you share a link so we can see what you're talking about? Thanks.
I should have saved the link. It was like the MS25 but had GPS as well. The article said it would be available in Korea but now I can't find it. The closest is the MS25 but that doesn't have GPS.
Here is link to MS25. LG MS25 Features and Specifications (Phone Arena)

Sorry 'bout that.
Doh. I hate when I do that myself Hmm looks like the Prada, kinda cool, though the touchscreen is nice, I really prefer having more tactile buttons as well, especially incase something happens to the touchscreen or glass/screen. The ones they have on there look slick, but is it just me or is the dpad is incredibly low?
It's about time someone posted a video on this beautiful device! I saw it was posted just this last month so that is a very good thing. I also talked to World Wide Electronics and they have some in stock right now! I can't seem to ever call when the tech is there to find out the price but I hope to at least get the info on that. If anyone can call then and post what they find in here before me that would be cool. I'm going to try again this week sometime but trying to get the tech nowadays seems as elusive as trying to call Verizon to get an expected date for when FIOS is going to be made available to us when all the neighbors have it.
From what I understand these the SGH-i760 sell out very quickly, (I know people have purchased them but so far I have seen NO reviews on it from this year) so if any of you do purchase one please do report back to us a review (and or video review from the phones distinct webcam itself??) on what you find after getting it and playing with it a bit. From my searching I'm pretty sure you'd be the first one to post a review on it from within 2008 so please do let us know what you find. One thing I would love to put to have certainty on is the exact specs on it (and general price as well as region it was made for) because so many across the web have a variety of different specs listed from WM5-WM6/AKU2 to AKU3, from only EDGE to also HSPDA, from Bluetooth 1 to Bluetooth 2, etc. Thanks.
can you slide out the keyboard to answer the phone call? Thank You.
My Samsung i730 has the option to do that, and I believe the i830s have the option, which seems like a basic setting you can choose with vertical one handed QWERTY keyboards, so I wouldn't see why not.
The cool thing with these or most phones though I think is that you can get a Bluetooth ear piece and just click the button to talk without even having to lift the phone. I prefer to do it that way. But yea if answering via sliding the phone is your forte I wouldn't see why it wouldn't have it. It still has Infrared when the other Pocket PCs seem to unfortunately be dropping it, so I think it's most likely that it will also retain the ability to answer via slide..really I think its very highly probable that it will have that feature.
The SCH i760 ISNT a BAD phone or device (it seems to be rated from ok to average to good by users..Cnet gave it a 7.0 I believe where the i730 got a solid 8.3), but for me the horizontal keyboard is a deal killer, and the fact that it doesnt have 3G, or really much of a difference from the i730 in specs in terms of what one may generally consider an upgrade, just doesnt make it that impressive. On the other hand I love and am still impressed with my i730, where others hanve said that WM6 and a camera would keep us using it for a long while...I dont know about forever, but it may be a long while for me at least
Actually cnet gave the sch-i760 a 8.0. Wait are you looking at the right phone? It does have 3G, unless you are referring to the SGH which may not support North America 3G.

Actually they originally had it rated at 7.0 but CHANGED the rating more recently as noted by the following:
"Reviewed by: Bonnie Cha
Reviewed on 10/18/07 Updated on: 12/13/07 Release date: 10/19/07
Editor's note: Ratings have been adjusted with respect to newer devices that have entered the market ".
And if you click on the comments to the one that says:
"Yet another CNET Biased report!!!"
The guy there says "Frankly, I am sick and tired of seeing 6.5 - 7.3 ratings from CNET on pretty much all windows mobile or for that matter any non-apple product".
This shows they did rate it as a 7.0 as it stands alone by itself, but for some reason changed it after other phones came into the market. Besides that what he's saying isn't all together true in that I already noted that cnet rated the i730 an 8.3 which comes with Windows Mobile. Maybe the 6.5-7.3 ratings may be what is generally found for WM devices at cnet but it isn't always the case.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what youre you saying, but are you saying that the SCH-i760 supports 3G?? If it does then I take back what I said about that, but everything I read about it says it only supports Rev 0 not Rev A. If it does have it then that definitely brings it up a notch from where I was seeing it.
You make a good point about 3G. While it is still a question as to whether the SGH-i760 supports the US 3G band it still has the hardware upgrade the SCH-i760 doesn't, as well as IR, the one handed QWERTY, better quality camera with a distinct VGA webcam, looks, and NO Verizon (a plus for me). From what I have been told it should work here, and what I read seems to suggest the same thing, but I haven't seen hard evidence for the case.
One other thing is I remember that I was told to give up considering this phone almost from the beginning because it was claimed that it can't be used with any of the US networks, which I discovered that was not true. So because of the reasons I listed I am still very much hoping to get it but want to first make sure it works as it is claimed to as unlocked in the US. So if the 3G was not supported at all for the US your point is well taken..it definitely puts a damper on things. That's really the only other question I would have about it at this point. I really hope does work here. I was TOLD it does but until someone I know and trust gets it and can confirm it I don't know if it does. At least I got confirmation that it's available for people to buy now.
Dominick, do you realize you're basically talking to yourself? There's numerous posts with no response and you just keep going on about the phone.
We get it, you like the SGH, but this is the SCH-i760 forum.
If you do a search online for "SGH-i760" or even a search for the original SCH-i760 rumor thread, you'll see that there are many people who have expressed interest in this phone, besides myself. Are you saying I can't/am not allowed to post this one thread in here? If it's a violation of the forums policy then the mods can and could have taken it down or moved it, but they have seemed to suggest it's ok even in this thread. Maybe the reason not many have replied (though a few have) is because many already have a new device, dont know about this one, and or are still wondering if it's real or available since there's not much recent news about it except for what pdadb posted about it, how popularelect.com posted it for sale on their website, and that video that recently came out that displays it for people?
Are you suggesting that if someone bought it and verified that it works here, that no one in the entire United States, including those who glance through this forum and/or this thread would want to buy it?
the SCH-i760 is 3G - EVDO Rev0 is 3G, RevA is just slightly faster on upload speeds only I beleive. Therefore any CDMA handset with EVDO Rev0 is a 3G handset. I am also pretty sure that any of the CDMA handsets out there with either VZW or Sprint with RevA capability have just that - the capability to be updated to RevA via new firmware from VZW or Sprint.
I also beleive that it has been said on PDAPhoneHome and other places that the SGH-i760 does not have the correct band (2100mhz???) to be able to receive 3G here in America on our available GSM networks (att, tmobile)
3G equals:
EVDO Rev0 or RevA on CDMA networks
UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA on GSM networks
