I was talking to a nice Supervisor at Samung the other day, and he gave me some ideas..I'm going to try to get to level 3 techs as he stated they had access to more information regarding devices, and overseas info, which is where all of this stuff is made in the first place..

I'm going to try to ask about stuff this or next week and see what I can find out about the SGH-i760 and other things..like camera module parts, ROMs and the like..I'll probably be given the run around like usual, but I hope I can get somewhere with it.

If anyone else wants to try please do so and update us on anything you find..You just need to come up a question you KNOW level 1 and 2 tech support people won't be able to help you with in regards to your i730..as long as its a justifiable reason to be transferred to level 3 they'll send you there. As a suggestion if you want to try, be polite but don't take no for an answer. Also when you get to level 3 talk abut the issue/question in regards to teh i730, and THEN bring up the SGH-i760, and email or contact info for who deals w the digital support for Samsung, as in if they need parts for cameras gone bad.

I'm personally asking about the camera modules for the i730 if you wanted to know. Compatible camera modules would be ones found in the Samsung M8000, M4500, M4300, and any kind that would fit in the back of the i730. Thanks.

The problem is, there is no camera module.... They just used the same back case that would have had a place for a camera. There is no plug in module for the i730, it would require a new motherboard with the camera soldered on the back of it. Equus attempted to get this done while in Korea, and didn't get it to happen because of this, and the need to change to a different motherboard, and then it would have the wrong ESN number that would not allow access to the Verizon network.

This was all discussed in the past, and you are welcome to try, but we have been down that road before...

From what I understand someone has gotten a camera from a Korean version of the i730 (can't remember if it was from an M4300 or M4500) working in the back of the US i730, w the same motherboard, and got it to take pictures, be it dark ones. That would tell me it's possible and can be done. The thing he needs is drivers which were told the ones from the WM6 ROMs would work in any camera module that would fit in the back, whether from the M4300, M4500 etc. One from the forum who's looked into this w a contact from Samsung he has that knows how to get that working in the device and or worked on trying to get it fully functional in the i730 apparently said this from what I understand. So while they took out the camera module, from what I've seen, the innate capabilities to have one in there still seem to remain to be in tact..I also don't remember them changing the FCC approved specs from one mother board to another in order to keep a camera from being able to work in it. Do you remember anything like that happening?

Man..I called Popularelect.com and they said they got in 25 SGH-i760 pieces, but these units came flashed in FRENCH. Yes FRENCH. Since there was no vendor, and the supplier didn't know where to get it reflashed in english they sent them back till they get some English ones in stock. These companies are amazing..

Ok...Just got the SCH-i760, and I was right, I HATE the keyboard! What a piece of junk! Why would VZW abandon what has become the most popular standard for keyboards in the past 2 years. The only people buying the sideways ones are lame teenagers who want Sidekicks!

There's a reason that RIMM has shot up more than 60% in the last 3 months after many though that Blackberry was going to be out of business!!!

Why does VZW keep turning away the best ideas out there (ie: SCH i760 and iPhone). What kind of morons are running this company and why do I keep paying them so much money?!?

mRailing, can you please open a separate phone discussion for the SGH-i760?? Thank you.

I dont believe the SGH has actually ever been released for sale by a US carrier therefore I dont know how much sense it makes to make a subforum for the SGH i760.

I personally don't think we will see any SGH-i760s show up here, because people will have to import/unlock them, and they are only available on GSM service. If you want to discuss it, use this thread. If this changes, sure we will create one, but we need more than one person to hang out in a forum, and we need the devices around.

If you do import one and move your service to a GSM service, let us know if you like it.

I agree. I played with the SCH-i760 just to give it a fair chance..I liked that it was small, and had WM6, but the keyboard..BLAGH! Complete deal breaker. I think I'm incredibly close to being done with Verizon. The SGH-i760 looks very good to me. I'm going to look into seeing if that website knows of anywhere else to get the phone, in ENGLISH. If I can find a place maybe then there would be justification for another thread. I know quite a few people who want the SGH-i760. If anyone finds any info on it please do report back here and let us know your findings. Thanks.

PS: If/when that website gets them flashed in english, would that be an ok enough reason to get a new thread for it since its a US contact for buying it?

It just depends on traffic and needs. If there is a desire for a forum from phone carrying people, sure the forum will get created. If it's rumors going around without any real proof it's going to happen, then it will likely stay in a thread, such as the SCH-i760 did for MONTHS after we heard about it.

When you get it, let us know, and if others join, I will pass the message along to get a forum created.

I'm with Dominick. I am sending back my i760. In addition to the dislike of the keyboard, I didn't have it out of the box 5 minutes before my (usually non-butter-fingers) fingers let it accidentally drop...

Sure enough, I have a huge crack in the screen. 2 1/2 years of the i730, and all the drops, all the replacements I've been through, not one was for a broken screen. The quality of this device is shoddy.

Hopefully, someone will be able to get their hands on the SGH-i760 and it will be worth jumping from VZW to have "The Perfect Phone".

Ouch, I hope they don't give you problems in returning it. I hope to find someone who will get the SGH one in.

no thanks, I already got the better of the two i760's. the SGH is practically a slimmer version of the SCH-i730 I've been using for two years, except on a ****ty network....and I don't know about you, but when I upgrade my phone, I actually want an upgrade beyond the size of it.

Oh my bad, so the SGH-i760s 2MP camera isn't better than the SCH-i760s 1.3 mp camera, a VGA webcam in addition to the one camera isnt an upgrade in the SGH, 3G HSDPA in the SGH is not faster than EVDO, having NO Infrared (remote Control/data transer) is better than having Infrared in the SGH, having a vertical one handed use keyboard with option of two hands in the SGH is not better than a sole 2 handed use horizontal keyboard?

Not including the size, the differences I see between the i730 and SCH-i760 is the tweaked WM5 (ie WM6), a faster processor, better battery life, no antenna (though I wonder if not having one helps reception), and camera. I don't see how the keyboard is an upgrade, its ,well, ugly, it doesn't have 3G, and apparently seems flimsier/not as sturdy. What would you say makes the SCH-i760 really that much of an upgrade?

Of course it is, bigger keyboard means you don't have to worry about bumping thumbs, and being able to type messages and documents in either vertical or horizontal is better than being limited to one

Not including the size, the differences I see between the i730 and SCH-i760 is the tweaked WM5 (ie WM6), a faster processor, better battery life, there you go, finally you talk about something that matters, oh and look, it's better on the sch-i760 compared to the other two phones discussed no antenna (though I wonder if not having one helps reception), your i760 didn't come with an internal antenna...sucks for you and camera. I don't see how the keyboard is an upgrade, its ,well, ugly, it doesn't have 3G, and apparently seems flimsier/not as sturdy. What would you say makes the SCH-i760 really that much of an upgrade?
Just cause you don't know how to deal with Verizon customer service and can't afford the phone, doesn't mean it's a bad phone like you attempt to claim. Try buying one and actually using it first, then talk. If you want to go buy another SCH-i730 with a 2MP camera slapped on it, and a slightly slimmer design, then by all means, got drop another $300 for one.

Wow. That had to be one of the top ten flames of the century...

I paid $500 for my i-700, $500 for my i-730, $400 for my wife's i-600 and ... $50 for my i-760. Perhaps the build quality is not as good as it's predecessors (that remains to be seen - and a cracked screen could just be a fluke), but it was $50! Give Verizon a little credit for not making us bend over for this one.

I loved the one handed nature of the i-730, but having a keyboard that I don't have to check EVERY letter to make sure I didn't hit the one next to it has some merit.

I was trying to say that the SCH-i760 was not much of an upgrade from the i730, which I think is a valid statement.

I was also trying to say that I don't prefer the keyboard on the SCH-i760 (I cant stand doing texts on numeric keypads that assign many letters to each number..its takes a quite a bit longer to type stuff), and I happen to think that having 3G IS and upgrade found on the SGH not the SCH and the higher mega pixel camera is better than a lower mp camera..I'm talking about the camera ON the device for the sake of convergence, eliminating the need to have to carry around an extra camera or the need to buy an SD webcam..

..I'm glad youre able to afford an 8MP camera or even an HD movie cam..but that really doesn't have much to do with what Im specifically talking about concerning the devices in comparison to one another.

Someone mentioned getting an SCH-i760 for 50 bucks (I assume as a replacement), I think THATS an amazing deal either way, no matter what Im saying here.

The SCH i760 ISNT a BAD phone or device (it seems to be rated from ok to average to good by users..Cnet gave it a 7.0 I believe where the i730 got a solid 8.3), but for me the horizontal keyboard is a deal killer, and the fact that it doesnt have 3G, or really much of a difference from the i730 in specs in terms of what one may generally consider an upgrade, just doesnt make it that impressive. On the other hand I love and am still impressed with my i730, where others hanve said that WM6 and a camera would keep us using it for a long while...I dont know about forever, but it may be a long while for me at least

I actually have tried out the SCH i760 in the stores for an adequet amount of time..I'm happy it gives you what you believe you are looking for, but other than me getting the SCH-i760 for $50 I don't see myself owning or using one.

One question for SCH-i760 users...is the weird squishy juicy screen standard on the device or were those just defects?
