I'm ordering my card today. There are scattered reports in this forum about the 4gb card being temperamental. Is this the case for everybody or are some of them working perfectly. If I don't want to hassle with it beyond installing the CAB file, would I just be better off just getting the 2gb card? If so, does it matter which 2gb card I get? I don't see a 2BG micro SDHC... thanks!
I am receiving my 4g card today in the mail.
The 2g card wont be SDHC and that not a big deal. It will work as advertised.

The HC of the SDHC stands for high capacity, the 2 gig micro sd cards are just that, anything above 2 gigs is an HC. Natively, this phone technically only supports micro SD cards (not the HC)...however with the hack, I have been using my 4 gig sdhc card with no problems what-so-ever since its release. As far as the 2 gig cards go, you can get whatever you want, it should all work. Any 4 gig micro sdhc you get should work with the hack, anything above that is not worth getting right now since there isn't a hack to get more than 2 gigs out of a 6 gig sdhc card.
Tried the hack on my SCH-i760 with patriot 4Gb SDHC, installed fine, re-booted and.....
....drive doesnt show up at all...
Am i missing something here..??
Did you ever get your patriot card working?
I seem to be having similar problems.
I have installed the sbhc cab, and I have also tried the 777 cab, but i cannot 'see' the Patriot 4GB Micro sdhc card.
I purchased the SANDISK 4GB card and first tried it with the hack on my i730. Worked perfectly. When I received my i760 I put the hack and the 4GB card in it and I've had no problems at all.
Thanks for the input, nmjones.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case with my phone.
I have performed a hard reset and installed sdhc.cab first and still no luck.

Thanks for all info with this problem!
I thought I remember someone saying that the brand name didn't matter...but I wonder if that might be part of the problem? Or maybe just a bad card.
I've also heard it mentioned to make sure the card was installed when you ran the cab file on your phone...I did mine that way and it has worked fine ever since (4gb Kingston card from newegg)
anyone get the adata 4gb micro sd to work for the i760? they're on sale right now... thanks!

It was in response to my question about AData microsd cards working. According to the leading expert on microSD, garment69, it doesn't matter.
But in my experience, both brand, and whether or not the card is "retail" or "bulk" matter. It affects both compatibility and longevity of the device. Be careful of taking everything on the forums as truth. Sounds like patriot cards are a no go. I'll find out shortly whether adata work as well as sandisk (which I already have too).
I purchased a 4GB Sandisk MircoSDHC card at Best Buy for my i760 (89.99). It was not recognized by the phone. I took it to Verizon and they could not get the phone to recognize the card. I bought a 2GB Sandisk MicroSD card (not HC) and it works fine. My guess is the i760 will not work with the new 'HC' format.

As mentioned above, you only need to download, extract, and install the sdhc CAB file graciously provided by Nemanracing in Post #41 at the top of Page 3 of this thread. When done properly, that will allow your i760 to happily use all 4 GB of a SanDisk 4GB microSD HC card. No offense, but most Verizon employees couldn't guess their way out of petunia convention on the moon in the middle of winter.
I find it odd that people are having mixed results with this. We should have someone start a count of what brands of cards people have gotten to work with the hack and what brands people have NOT been able to get working, as well as where they got them. I'm not really sure how to do that, but here is my information, and I WAS able to get my card to work.
I wonder if the "class" matters. I saw on this newegg page that there were some class 6 devices out there, and noticed the one I got was a class 4. Maybe there is something with that causing problems for people.

The class number shouldn't matter as that just defines how fast the card is...like computer memory, the card will only work as fast as the memory interface in the phone. Not sure what the spec is on the microSD port is...

From page 37 of the Users Manual - "Note: Memory cards with a storage capacity of over 2GB will not work with this phone." But I know for a fact (and several others know also) The 4GB (i'm using Sandisk) will work with the hack reported in and referenced many times on this website.
To make things clear for people reading this thread, and to minimize questions up to this point, this is where we all stand:
Without the SDHC hack mentioned in this very thread, no SDHC cards will even be recognized by the device.
With the SDHC hack:
4GB SDHC MicroSD will be read perfectly, without any problems.
6GB SDHC MicroSD cards will only read approximately 1.7GB of space.
8GB SDHC MicroSD cards are still unconfirmed, I believe.
---
I should also note, regarding the sync'ing of music, that I have had problems where my library would disappear on the card after updating/resync'ing the library. To resolve this, I simply deleted all the contents in my "music" folder on the card, and then re-sync'ed and it appeared again. This has been the only issue I've experienced with the SDHC hack not working.
I am still standing by for a new fix to all of our SDHC 6/8 GB woes.
One thing I haven't tried is filling the card past 1.7GB and seeing if the phone can still read it. Just because it says thats all the data you have, doesn't mean a Windows PC can't load a bit more on there. It would be something useful to at least try. If this works, you may not be able to install more programs onto the card or store photos/messages, but at least all of your music/video/pictures will be there. Might hold you over until a new hack is released/developed.
Not sure if I missed it in someones post but I had mine working, then it was not seeing the card, I have the Sandisk 4G card from Best Buy. So what I did was installed the card in that adapter and put it in my PC and formatted the card and has been stable with no issues since. I am assuming since I did not format the card to start with maybee thats why I was having issues not seeing it. Anyhow just a heads up for others that might help with the card not being recognized

After playing with the Adata 4gb microsd, I can safely say it mostly works in comparison to the 4gb Sandisk. Programs run fine off of the Adata card. However, installing programs causes it to crash frequently. I have no problems with installing programs on my Sandisk microsd.
With many things in life, you get what you pay for. My retail sandisk microsd works 100% of the time, and it comes with a usb adaptor to boot. For the 10 bucks I saved for my brother's i760 getting the Adata, you lose the usb adaptor as well as 100% compatibility. Buyer beware.
I may be purchasing the Samsung SCH-i760 smart phone soon (this would be my 1st) and need some advice. One of my co-worker's owns this samsung and mentioned it only accepts a maximum of 2GB micro-SD chip. This concerns me as a few of the others I am considering buying also have more maximum memory capacity. I read through the posts in this thread and as a smart phone newbie, I must confess I am a little overwhelmed with all the information. I am trying to decide if I should buy the samsung phone and the answer to the memory question will help me decide. Can someone post
(in smartphone-laymans terms--for someone who has slightly above average PC skills) understand the bottom line solution before I can decide on deciding whether or not I should buy this phone:
1) What is the SDHC hack specific for the i760 and what are the step by step instructions to load the hack?
OR
2) Can a 4GB chip be used as was mentioned in this previous post (see quote below)

---Does this quote mean the hack isn't neccessary afterall, and I just need to format the chip on my PC? Either way, please post steps to do this also..
Thank You
