Why would the Patriot 4 gb sdhc card "NOT" work?

anyway to test it?

does it need to be formatted?

bought the a-data 4gb from newegg. installed the hack. popped it in. the device recognized it. hit format. a mintue later it said it could not be formatted. have tried both hacks multiple times along with a couple hard and soft resets and it will not recognize the card whatsoever. am i screwed? am i only one that cant get an a-data card working? or did the format attempt screw it over?

I've got the A-Data and its been working fine from day 1...I never tried to format it, though, so I suppose that might have hurt it...maybe the hack doesn't take into account the formatting function in some way? Total guess.
Did you try to format it from a regular Windows OS yet? I think the format is simply FAT32, no different when formatted on your handheld than on your desktop.

yea i'm regretting trying the format. it must've done something. just used to doing in all my devices before using a new card. haven't tried in vista yet cause my reader doesn't support sdhc. i'm running to staples this afternoon to grab a new reader. HOPEFULLY i can get it working. i've been without storage long enough and waiting for a replacement is gonna drive me crazy.

Do you need to format a new card? I did not with my 4GB SanDisk.

I had the exact same thing happen with my A-Data card. Yes, you're screwed and you shouldn't have to format the card. I RMA'd mine and picked up a kingston 4gb that is working great.

Yeah, if you format it, you should do it in Fat32 I believe. Not Fat16 or NTFS.

disaster averted. bought a card reader at staples (great deal : sandisk mobilemate sd plus - reads microsdhc without any adapters only 15 bux). allowed vista to see it and formatted it in FAT32. popped it in the i760 and it works fine. i guess the failed format is what screwed it up. thanks for the replies guys!

Ok,
Hopefully I'm no idiot, just uninformed.
Download the hack to desktop. Sync'ed 1760 w/activesync.
Tried to open the sdhc file. It opened briefly and closed.
I tried to copy the entire cab file but when I tried to paste into device, paste option was grayed out.
Please enlighten me.
Thanks,
BuckeyeBoat

I sync via BT. All I do to move files is right click on the file and click 'send to - bluetooth device'. dunno if a similar approach will work with usb syncing.

Usually I just drag it from my laptop and drop it into the folder on the remote device... I've done the right click > Send to > Bluetooth Device > [my device name] as well.

Buckeye:... I presume you got an answer on your post? If not, after thinking about what you said, I suspect you were trying to copy using 'paste' on your PC / laptop? So, just a hint: Connect your i760, then go over to the folder you've unzipped the CAB into on your PC and ctrl-C it (Copy). Then go to Activesync and use the file explorer to some place on your i760. Use paste there to put the CAB file onto the i760 (the paste shouldn't be greyed out there). Then, on your i760, startup and use the i760's file explorer to get to the CAB file. Then execute that CAB file. It'll install. I think there's an i760 reboot (reboot anyway if not) and you should be good to go.

Yeah, it sounds like you were trying to run the file from your desktop. CAB files have to be run on the device itself. EXE files are run from the desktop while synced to the phone.

Not an idiot, just uninformed as you said.

I'm using all but 230 megs or so, of my 4 gig memory card. I have a bunch of movies on there though. I ripped down a bunch of my favorite movies from my home collection, and just store the ripped down versions on my computer. Then if I go on a trip and want certain movies, I switch them out. I never needed this phone like most do for work/email etc...it was just a toy, which are how my phones are always used.

Can I get a little help on installation. I have installed many programs, and the installer doesn't start itself. Through file explorer I tried to load .cab file onto first screen loose, then system folder and no installer started. Soft reset didn't help. Thanks.
