hmm.. good idea. I wanna see what hppens before I buy a micro-sdhc card. you think it'll work with the 8gb card too?
you don't get to take advantage of thebetter fat32 file system, but at least you get to use the storage space you paid for.
also, any word on the i760 read/write speeds? would it be of any advantage to get a class 4 or 6 micro-sdhc card?
I just bought the Patriot MicroSDHC 4GB card from Fry's and applied the .cab patch to my i760 and it works fine. The problem that I am having is when I put the card into the SD adapter and try to read it with my Vista computer it cannot see the card. Only the phone can see the card. Anyone else having this issue? Same with Windows XP. Might be the card reader but I am not sure.
I am having a similar problem. I tried the card first in the PC and when I couldn't read it, I thought it was defective. Seeing this post, I wonder if there is more going on.

If memory serves, FAT16 (a.k.a. FAT) has a 2GB file size, and 4GB volume size, limit. FAT32 has a 32GB file size, and 2TB volume size, limit. So switching to FAT will not get you more than 4GB in any case...I suppose there's an oddball chance it could get you the first 4GB of your 6GB card, though I would have no explanation as to why that might happen.
Beyond that, FAT performs significantly slower and is much less efficient than FAT32. Generally, FAT uses 32K per block of storage, so thats the minimum file size you can have even if your word doc or whatnot only has 4 bytes of actual data in it. FAT32 uses 4K blocks.

I stopped reading this Thread around the 5th page. So many of the same questions and same answers
It seemed easier to just go out and buy another 4gb card and have the 8gb that everyone is reaching for.
Sure its two cards and not one.... and it isnt really that hard to carry around the extra card.

I wouldn't mind having 2 cards if you could easily and reliably store the second card in the phone somehow, instead of needing to carry it separately in a case etc... I tried to fit it in the tracks on the back of side of the screen half, but it just barely doesn't fit.
It would have been a neat/nice idea if they had included a second spring loaded slot right above the current one, even if it didn't actually read..just to store it. Just a thought, but I wouldn't be happy with 2 unless something like that was possible.

"Anyone have any experience with the Kingston cards? I read a post a few up that someone purchased the class 4 4.0gb micro-sdhc Kingston card from newegg.com. that's the one i want to get, but I want to make sure it works okay first.
-randy"
Randy,
This is the card I bought and have had no problems with it. Works fine.
im sure its not noticeable in the phone itself, but if you use a card reader to transfer files from your computer to the card I bet it would be faster. after all, the write speeds are twice as fast as a standard class 2 micro-sdhc card.
I am having a similar problem. I tried the card first in the PC and when I couldn't read it, I thought it was defective. Seeing this post, I wonder if there is more going on.
I think I figured this problem out. The 4GB micro cards are in HC format. Few of the USB readers for these cards support the HC format. I went to Fry's and tried some in the store. I found the XTRA drive from Media Gear worked (www.mymediagear.com). It only cost $10. Other readers may work as well, I am not endorsing this one (although it worked for me).
The upshot is that if you are cannot read your card in the computer, make sure your reader supports the new format before deciding that the card is bad.
SWEET!!!!!!! Trinergy you rule dood! I used to get 5GBs worth of my 8GB SDHC (NOT MICRO SD card) working in my i730, then after partitioning it and using different hacks, I thought either partitioning it and/or using the DLL hack ruined my abillity to read the full 5GBs, and made it only read 4GBs from then on..That made me sad..no matter what I did I couldnt seem to get the full 5GBs to read anymore....BUT now that I tried it close to the order you suggested to:
1) Copy both dll files first then the SDHC cab (reset if need be).
2) Then to use the SDKCERTS.CAB..it didn't work UNTIL AFTER I
3) Soft reset!
and WALLA IT WORKED! I FINALLY got back 5GBs (5289) of my 8GB SDHC Card working again in my i730! Thank God! I wonder if anyone with an i760 will find that it allows themn to access more than 4GBs of their 6GB or 8GB MicroSD Cards.
EDIT: AND I can read my non SDHC Cards AGAIN as well! WOO HOO!
I keep my backups on a 4gb card but lose access to the card after a hard reset. Is there any directories on the i760 that I can place sdhc.cab into that do not get cleared during a hard reset similar to the wm2003 safestore? Otherwise I cannot get sdhc back on the ppc except with a 2gb card or activesync and may not be at my pc.

That's not a dumb question (I asked the same earlier in the thread ). About all you can do is transfer the hack over ActiveSync or on a 2gb card.
However, I did see a post somewhere regarding supporting 4gb cards in a future ROM update.
If you sync your emails and contacts via an exchange server, you could email the cab file to yourself so it would always be there. You might have to do this once every 30 days depending on how many past emails you tell it to sync. You might could also attach the file to a calendar item (far into the future) or contact that gets synced.
Just one idea. Haven't tried it, but I email cabs to myself routinely. If you don't sync via exchange, maybe it would work with wireless sync or something similar.
EDIT: Even more obvious, that just hit me. You could come to PDAPhoneHome on your i760 and download it from the appropriate thread. Granted, navigating and searching on the phone is not as easy as on the desktop, but you'll get there.
