And the dedicated numeric keyboard, if usuable when the slider is open, which I assume will be the case, will be a great advantage for the i760. Its a major pain to keep hitting shift/fn just to type in a number.
Wayne, I am is the same boat as you in that I use my i730 more as a PDA (web, Sling, Office Mobile, WLM, Solitaire ), and typing in numbers has been my biggest issue with the i730.
The following website gives some good info on both phones side-by-side, as well as the SMT5800 Libra. It gives release dates as well. 760 this month, 5800 and 6800 in Oct. It seems to me that the external numeric keypad is a nice-to-have, but the capability to upgrade to Rev.A on the 6800 is the clincher.
I have been using a demo VZW6800 for about two days now and my initial thoughts are two thumbs down. Why TWO thumbs down? Because you can't do anything on this device with just one.
I'm coming from a Treo 700Wx, so it is an adjustment going to a side slider, I will admit. But skipping that for a minute, there are my initial impressions of the actual device/software.
Clunky, yes, it seems rather clunky, especially when it goes to sleep in portrait mode and you slide it open and turn it in.. It kinda hangs while it figures out it needs to switch to landscape. Weird. Overall responce seems to be not as snappy as my 700wx.
Potential memory leak? It remids me of the original 700w. I was using it yesterday, launched the camera and i got an error saying can't launch camera, not enough memory. So, yeah, I had some programs running, but the only app I had installed that didn't come with the device was Windows Live Search. I had under 10MB of RAM left?!?!? Even after closing all programs it just went up to 12 or 15MB. Very 700w'ish. Even after a soft reset, it will display 47MB total memory with only 25-27 available from the start.
Voice signal, voice command? I can't find it. The only thing I have found is this voice taging, where I have to go into each contact and record my voice saying the contact? That's not cool.
No easy/quick way to initiate a voice call one handed without having to scroll though my contact list, or flip the keyboard out. I want to type a few chars from the home screen and have a list of names pop up. Like the Treo or PN-820, (and hopefully the i760)
The keyboard itself, awesome. I actually love the side slideout for typing. Sure if you just wanted to send a quick 'yes' 'no' txt message there is extra time, but for typing a medium to long message, I love it. (I wish the comma was it's own key, but no biggie.)
Web browsing... well, awesome as well. Coming from the Treo and it's flaky network connections it is great.
The camera, well, it's 2 megapixals, so what do you expect? It does have a flash, which is sweet cause the only time I ever use a camera on a phone is in a bar where it is usually darker. You can turn the flash on full time and it is pretty bright.
EDIT: (one more thing) For me, it slides out the wrong way. I usually hold my device in my left hand. (I'm right handed.) It would be much easier to slide it out if it slid out the opposite way. Maybe most people hold them in their right hand by default.. I dunno.
Those are my intial thoughts.... I need more time with the device to figure things out.
My feelings exactly, I now like it that way. I love everything about the Mogul. The "issues" have been far easier for me to fix than on the i730, and the SERO plan is so killer, that I ordered one for my wife, and will then cancel all remaining lines with Verizon. I told the Verizon guy this in the store the other day, and he started giving his speil about the network, etc. I said Sprint works BETTER where I live and travel, and there's free roaming to boot on SERO. I complained about how they slammed 2 of my lines with Text Messaging, which was never discussed, wanted, or ever used on those 2 lines. I didn't catch it for a year, and no credit was offered. I pointed out that every time I got an added line, the salesperson had changed my "primary number" to get more commission, causing account issues. Sometime a "gopher" who works for me ended up with the primary number, causing HIM to get calls about issues, time for a payment, etc. Idiots.
Then I told him how angry I was that they took the camera off the i730. He said it was because of the needs in the corporate world. I said why didn't you offer both versions then. He said that would cost too much to design 2 phones. I said the camera version was already developed, all you had to do was silk-screen your Logo on it. You would still only have to design the 1 version, the camera-less one. He shrugged his shoulders. Then I asked if the 6800 and i760 are going to have the cameras removed too. He said he couldn't talk about new products. I said, "Well, if they HAVE the cameras, then your arguement about why you took it out of the i730 is weak, and it was really because you wanted to only sell camera phones that you could charge for sending the photos. If you have again REMOVED the cameras, then I wouldn't want either unit in any event, since Sprint HAS the camera."
I frequently refered to the savings on my SERO plan too. The manager came over and got involved, then sulked away. Many others were listening with keen interest. Revenge is sweet......
What area are you in? I'm New York Tri-State and was wondering how well Sprint is doing here. I love my 730 but Sprint pricing is damn attractive compared to VZW but I always wonder why it's so cheap and think maybe it's less towers to support
The Mogul's keys are "humped" in the middle, the picture is misleading, as it makes it look like it's a flat keyboard. The humps make it easy to feel the key you are on. I type quite fast on it.

I haven't liked the keys on the 6600, 6700, or 6800 now. The treo and Q were ok but small so I really think I am going to appreciate the keyboard on the i760 moreso than the other options.
I think I will probably get over the misalignment of the bottom row of keys on the 760 pretty quickly.
I ended up switching to a SERO $30 plan with the Mogul. So far I love how easy it is to navigate the entire phone. I try extra hard to check myself for the fanboy nonsense so take it as you may. I loved my 730 but this thing runs rings around it as it should. the scroll button is starting to be very adictive. all in all it comes down to whether or not you can stomach VZW's extra $45 a month for 2 years. $1000 more is downright hostile. so far I think the download speeds are the same or better but this is just in my house, on the train and at my desk NY metro/Rockland. what' weird in a good way is that the phone does way more with 1 bar than the 730 did. I almost forgot to mention how awesome Exchange 2007 and WM6 work! being able to search your entire mail store is badass. but this feature will be just as cool on the 760.
I defintely think the 760 is flashier but not for an extra G. just my overall .02
Well, I "played" with the i760 today and I liked the form factor.
The only reason that I can find to buy the i760 to replace my 6700 is the numeric keyboard on the front of the phone in additional to the slide-out QWERTY.
Can anyone else offer any strong selling points for going from a 6700 to the i760?
To be honest,
I feel kinda stupid buying a phone which seems to have the same capabilities (memory, processor, camera) as the one I already own just to gain a numeric keyboard.
However, I really do hate touchscreen number dilaing when making calls on the 6700.

Well there is no way you are using the XV6800 if it only has this much memory considering the XV6800 has double the memory of the i760. Probably using the XV6700.

Just my tidbit
Um, sorry dude. The VZW 6800 only had 64MB of memory. We got a demo unit from Vienna Channels, Verizon Wireless Demo Services Team. I've seen the "secret Verizon PPT" where it says it has 96MB, but it also said it was WM5... This device had 64MB and it ran like it was a 32MB Treo 700W. Maybe you meant storage memory... yeah, it has 256, which is double the i760 I think.
Edit: I can certainly scan the order receipt they sent along, not that I really care if you believe me or not. But I know the difference between a 6700 and a 6800. No antenna... it doesn't have that little joystick... scroll wheel.. oh yeah, it has WM6.

You're correct, the 6800 (which I've been using on Sprint for a month now) has 64 meg of RAM, and runs like it has 16. The current ROM has a wicked memory leak. Currently I've been running for about 4 hours since the last soft reset, cleared the memory in IE, and onnly have IE running. the current available ram is... 1.5 megs.
I ordered a Mogul/6800 with the SERO plan yesterday. Today I checkout out a demo unit at a Sprint store and was a little disappointed on the the size and apparent build quality (compared with my i730).
First, the slider felt cheap and was not "smooth" in like the i730. Second, when I compared the footprint and thickness to the i730, there was very little difference. The internal antenna was the most obvious size benefit.
For those that have the i760, does it have a similar "feel" to the i730? Does the build quality seem as good? Has anyone actually held both the i760 and the Mogul in their hands to compare?
I haven't held a Mogul but I can tell you the build quality of the 760 is imo better than the 730. What I didn't realize for the first few days is the top and bottom are a hard rubber that will definitely protect the phone. I dropped my yesterday and that rubber bottom saved it from getting scratched. The slider is the same spring design as the 730 very crisp, no wiggle. Way better than the 6700 slider which I have had before.
So, I got my Mogul today to try for 30 days. It's basically the same footprint as the i730 but without the antenna and a bit thinner. It also feels a bit lighter than the i730, which adds to the "cheap" feel to it. When the i730 slid open, it was smooth and quiet. The Mogul sounds like rough plastic grinding against each other. Also, the touch screen does not seem as sensitive as the i730. The speed increase with the Mogul is almost not noticeable.
If my decision was based solely on the phone, I would go with the i760, site unseen, when it comes out. However, the Sprint SERO plan will be saving me about $1200 over 2 years. The question is, is the i760 worth $1200 over two years?

I have thought the same thing about the SERO plan. I can save between $80-$130 per month if I made the move to Sprint... So $960-$1560 per year, over two years I could save almost $3000.... It's very tempting to get the Mogul and move to Sprint...

There is no speed increase with the Mogul. The Mogul has a 400mhz Processor vs. the i730's 520. But you're right, it's the per month savings that makes it irresistable.
It's crazy...I feel like I would be the most happy if I could cut off the antenna from my 730.
I think I am leaning towards the 760 at this point. I'm just not that happy with the Mogul and am really nervous that sprint is going to cause me problems (wrong billing and bad customer service).
hopefully the 760 will be out soon and make this decision easier.
