I have an i730, WM05.
[It's okay, but I'm really disappointed with the OS; having to convert files just to put them on the machine. Plus, Phatware and some other software I've tried won't work on it after the intitial loading.]
I'm probably going to get the i760 (maybe the 6800, but I doubt it).
What I want is a Vista OS phone. I would really like a phone that's also a real computer, with a 5" or 6" screen, preferably multi-touch, belt wearable, that can last as long as an i730.
The OQO is almost there, but the battery life is only 2hrs, it doesn't have solid state hd, and its fan is loud. It can data connect to Verizon (or Sprint), but is not a phone.
Is there a real Vista OS phone on the horizon, or am I just going to have to live with the choices noted?
[Maybe I need someone to make a small phone (ear-full phone?), and a small tablet pc, that can fully talk and work together. The phone could work by itself, but wirless sync and work with the computer. I bring up contact info on the computer, click it and the phone dials it.]
LOL, I guess I sounded a bit to serious about it. Just wanted to stop the dissemination of misinformation.
I thought it sounded a bit wrong, but I didn't have anything to back it up until I read another thread on this site earlier this morning. The TyTn 8525 and the Titan 6800 are different in many ways. For one the 6800 is thinner and they keyboard slides out from the right instead of the left.
Sorry Miata492. BTW, what kind of Miata do you have? I used to have a '97 STO 'til an SUV totaled it. Now I have an '06.

not a problem!
i am living a lie... it is more like what miatas i have had... i actually sold both of my miatas last year. i had a 90 classic red with low mileage for around 10 years and i had a 93 limited edition #492 (black w/ red leather and bbs wheels, etc.) for about 6 years and finally sold them both as i just wasnt driving them much anymore...
maybe i should change my username to searay210sd after my other toy...
back to topic... it is probably a good thing the 8525/6800 arent twins since i dont like the 8525 much...

I have had Verizon for years, but haven't even remotely liked any PDA or smartphone they have released to date. OK, so maybe I was drooling over the i730 and just couldn't afford it. Either way, I will be getting the i760 the second it comes out, because I can't live with a crappy basic cell phone anymore. I almost got the Q, but WiFi is a HUGE requirement for me. Anyway, I came upon a video review of someone playing with an i760 (lacking battery, so it wasn't on) at a convention (CES or something similar) and he pulled a stylus out of it, with a look of surprise, like he was thinking "what the heck is this doing here?". Has anyone else seen this video or heard that the i760 will have a touch screen?

Yes it has a touch screen.

First, Welcome. We are excited about the i760. Now if you look at this thread:
That is the rumor and release thread. It contains an ongoing discussion of the i760. This thread is pretty much reserved for comparing the i760 directly to the 6800, and straight talk about the i760 should be done in that Rumor/Release Thread. Now if you want to compare the reasons to get the 6800 over the i760, or the i760 over the 6800, then this is thread to do that...
Now if you want to see the videos that we know of, this thread has them:
That thread also includes the video you are discussing, and it's by popularmechanics.com. So yes we have seen the video. We have been discussing this phone since we saw the SGH-i760 (notice the G instead of a C) and it was misrepresented to being a CDMA device. So it's been about 6 months now (or more) of discussing it.
We also have a ton of pics, which should be about every picture of the i760 that we know of (at least all that I can find, as well as a few other people):
We try to keep discussions in their like threads, so if you want to discuss any of those it will be great if you can keep them in those threads. Again welcome, and hopefully we will see you on the boards...

Rev A Vs Rev 0 6800 wins
Wm6 vs Wm5 assuming 6800 is WM5, I760 wins
Screen size? Anyone know what the screen dimensions are for each? How much screen size are we losing with the Keypad on the front vs the 6800?
Memory, clearly the 6800 wins out.
For me its going to come down to OS selection. If the 6800 has WM5 I'll grab the i760. If it comes out with WM6 I'll probably get the 6800 although the form factor of the i760 is pretty hawt. I'm just worried about screen size which I don't think will be a huge deal.

I moved your post to the 6800 vs i760 thread.
Screen size is the same. If you read through the 6800 forum, there is actually some 6800 devices released on Telus (a Canadian mobile provider). It is also rumored that the 6800 won't be released on Verizon or Sprint unless it has WM6, so that is one more thing that they have in common.
Really it comes down to form factor and Rev A EVDO. In my opinion it's only the form factor. Take this in to consideration, that so far I know of only a handful of markets that are in the pipeline to get EVDO Rev A in the next 6 months. Also you need to know that EVDO Rev A will at this time only increase upload speeds, so for a connection from a mobile device this really doesn't matter, as most people won't be uploading many files. Where this will really help is with PC Cards and businesses that do a lot of uploading and remote connections. The download speed of EVDO Rev A is suppose to remain at around the same speed of Rev 0.
It's also been well over a two year roll-out of EVDO Rev 0 across the country with MANY markets not having Rev 0 EVDO, so the likelyhood of Rev A replacing all these previous markets, as well as markets without Rev 0 is going to still take a while. In this time, I am sure even more Rev A devices will be out, and even better devices.
Sure it would be great if the i760 had EVDO Rev A, but it doesn't and personally I don't think it needs it yet. I would say that it will be 2+ years before EVDO Rev A is widespread enough to "need" a device with it, and even then, the real benefit of it, it just increased upload speed, and even then it depends on what Verizon decides to do with it. There is still a lot of bandwidth that can be turned up on EVDO Rev 0, and it's being throttled by Verizon, just like Rev A will be.
So to me, it's all about which form factor you like better...

There's a chance the i760 will actually have a QCOM Rev A-worthy modem chip, albeit with Rev 0 firmware. It wouldn't be the first time for scaled-back deployment. (VZW reps sure wouldn't know.) This is why we need to consult internal pics and ID the QCOM modem chip. Until then, we can't rule out Rev A.
Meanwhile, forget Revs A and B. QCOM is setting up for...Rev C!
good points on the rev A versus Rev O mrailing...as for the 6800 versus 760
My revised arguments:
Hardware - Mrailing and Kbam addressed rev A
- The extra memory capacity on the 6800 is Rom, and not Ram
from what I
understand...meaning, more storage no change in program
useage memory. Solution - a memory card fpr the 760
- On the 6800, wifi and Bt share the same radio stack
Summary - 6800 is slightly better on the hardware config
Form Factor/build - 6800 is supposedly a bit better than 6700, but the phone side of the device is still apparently lacking - generally htc has a cheaper feel than samsung in their devices - see my post on page one
6800 - two handed phone navigation only
760 - one or two handed phone navigation
6800 does have the slide wheel
Software (OS Config.) - the 6800 will probablky sport WM6 like the 760
So they are quite equal here as well.
Summary - it really comes down to form factor/build, phone quality, and perceived need because the phones are so equal in OS and hardware.
If I was coming from a blackberry, I would probably want the 6800 for the scroll wheel. Rev A is not a need nor is more Rom Storage yet as most programs do not take up that much space on the device.
Form factor/build and phone quality have Sammy way in the lead and will most likely make it the obvious winner.
I am disappointed with Sammy on many levels for the 760, but it will be the best cdma phone this year.
mrailing - really...they fit all of those buttons on the front so as to not use up screenestate on the 760? You held one...did the buttons seem cramping?

It was a good feel for a right handed person, especially with the offset cursor pad. The buttons didn't feel cramped, as it was nice to have a keypad on the front. Keep in mind I literally had two minutes to play with it, and in that time it felt fine.

If I understand the memory layout under WM5 (and I'm guessing WM6), the ram is only for running programs. Flash rom is the storeage of executables and storeage of data. On my i730 I put what executables I can in Safestore, put a few in main flash, but I still get my documents, the internet cache and email database filling flash rom. Yes, I can constantly fiddle with purging the cache, etc, but what a pain. On the i730 I would be a LOT better off if there were no safestore and everything was in main flash. I would like more main flash, or a single large flash at least. I can't put my main exes on a card that would get pulled.
