I remember someone posting earlier this week that the i760 has been in beta testing for about 6 months. How can it possibly take Verizon 6 months to figure out that there are software problems. Couldn't they figure that out in, let's say, 2 weeks? Come on. We're quickly approaching the 2 year anniversary of the i730 release date and Verizon isn't offering any viable replacement for our device. It just makes me all the more angry each time I see them refer to themselves as "the Network.'

Well they are "The Network" they just don't have "The Hardware"

Not exactly. Usually software defect curves are modeled on an MTTF (mean time to failure) statistical regression fit which approximates a logarithmic curve. The number of test hours increases exponentially to find the next defect, so the defect curve (the logarithmic one) flattens out as the software "matures". Occasionally, a tester will find a bug during the middle of the testing cycle that has been masking other underlying software defects. When this happens, it throws the whole curve off-kilter and the test time needed to achieve the desired MTTF increases dramatically.
That being said, 6 months is not a very long time to test a system as complex as a PDA.
yeah, i think all the issues of the i730 were figured out and fixed in around 5 minutes on here! come on vzw! put some of these handsets in the hands of the right people and you can release your devices in a timely manner!!!

Good Point if they were to release even 10 of the i760s to select users in this forum the phone would not only be launched already but lauded as the "best"

Not that I'm defending VZW, but finding bugs and fixing them are two totally different things. Some bugs are easy to correct and others are nasty ones that seem to have tentacles everywhere in the software.

whats killing me about this delay is that i have an ever increasing feeling that the delay is due to the fact that they are trying to get the crippled phone to work with their network. too bad we cant start our own network..if only i had a few hundred million dollars....oh well..on another subject i think the majority of us are waiting for either the 760 or the xv6800 to come out...in reading the review of the sprint Mogul i think i read that it only has 64 mb o f ram..i thought the engadget post from december said it had 96...can anyone confirm either way? i know i should be asking this on the xv6800 forum but its full of sprint customers trying to buy one so since most of the people in this forum are vzw users i figured i would ask here since as i already said many of us are waiting for either the i760 or the 6800

I understand, I just like to bash the V now and then when I hear the 760 is possibly delayed. I hope Mrailing hears from Ethan soon with either confirmation or news of a eminent release.

I love that quote... But since it looks like the i760 is truly postponed this begs the real question on this issue.. Will iprob8 have to postpone his birthday before he can iterate another year toward the reaper.... If this goes on this thread will attain the critical mass of the kyo7135 speculation thread and iprob8 will have to celebrate 2 birthdays at the same time...

Seriously, you guys have pretty much figured it so let me tell you what happened. I decided that I didn't like the gray hairs I was getting and did not want to invest in any hair care products. Therefore, I decided the best way to solve my dilemma was to avoid my 40th birthday. To do this, I had to enlist the help of some highly influential folks. Consequently, I contacted MRailing and asked him to talk to Ethan about delaying the release of the i760 indefinitely. My understanding is that they were to meet in a vacant alley in Prague earlier this week, which is the real reason Michael has been MIA (sorry to blow your cover, Michael). Before Michael left, I gave him a locked briefcase to give to Ethan. The briefcase contained a draft complaint encaptioned, "iProb8 v. Verizon Wireless" and set forth a cause of action for intentionally and negligently causing premature aging. The briefcase also contained a letter in which I demanded that VZW delay the release of the i760 and stated that if the release were not delayed, I would file the complaint. Looks like my demand letter worked. Of course, they'll never be able to trace it back to me because the briefcase is set to self-destruct the first time a phone call is made from an iPhone (yes, any iPhone). So now you all know my plan for immortality. Just please don't tell anyone, especially Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.
Obviously, I'm just kidding. The real reason for the delay is that equus let dangerous try out equus' i760 and dangerous dropped the i760, causing it to malfunction. Of course, equus can't let VZW know that he let someone try out the i760 so equus reported to VZW that the i760 has a major defect that needs to be fixed before the general release. Consequently, VZW now is desperately trying to find out why equus' i760 no longer works.

The hidden part is not only plausible, but entirely possible! Thanks, Jay!!
I was wondering how quickly someone would notice the hidden text and who that would be. Here's your prize, Pastor Tim:

If Verizon came out with it I'd buy it today. All it needs is a front numeric keypad and throw I CDMA radio in there and I got me a new Verizon PPC worldphone
If Cingular does indeed bring this device to market in the US, then they will be sitting pretty in the PPC market here. With the iPhone for fanboys, fashionistas and pseudo-techies, and the Kaiser for the business users, all Cingular would need is a reliable network on which to run em in order to rule the world! lol
Our entire office is Verizon except for 2 phones(2/30). Those 2 are Cingular Blackjacks due to the fact that those gentlemen travel to Europe often and don't want to have to use different phones or order one to 'rent' from Verizon. However, 85% of their time is spent in the US and their reception is spotty here. The new Verizon Blackberry worldphone was a step in the right direction though.

I emailed a contact at Samsung that was at the Mobility tour (i will leave out names). I asked "Are there truths in the rumors that have been flying around that the I760 didn’t make the QC cut with VZW?
His response was "I think we should be ok from the last I've heard. I will keep you informed if I hear any updates."
So, having typed this, if he is reading this thread, he now knows who I am.
