I happen to work in a hotel that lodges many of the reps of the company that lauched the i730 (dont want to drop names) and inquired as to their knowledge of the i760. they were shocked when I mentioned it and after talking with them they realized I wasnt the average run of the mill phone user. they stated that there was development going on and that if i was in love with my 730 that i would be blown away with the 'technology' they have in the works - whatever that means. they did inform me that it wouldnt be available 1st Q but more towards 3rd (for what thats worth). Just some words to my fellow visitors - they may hold no ground but thought I'd put it in type for your viewing pleasure.
Aww man, the landscape slider looks like a bummer, I really like the portrait layout due to ease of 1 handed use. Actually reconsidering now while I was initially very excited about the i760.
At least they got the camera thing figured out finally but even cooler would have been the forward & rear facing...however anything is more funcional than my i730's current camera...:p
Connie, We need a I760 Forum.... I smell a lot of "jumpers" I think I can live with the landscape slide as long as there is a keypad on the front.... Oh yeah... THE CAMERA WILL BE NICE!!!!!!!!!!

Michael (MRailing) what do you think, now that more pics are out?
Am I seeing this right? Are the call and disconnect buttons actually exposed on the either side of this thing? I can see hanging up by accident by grabbing the sides of the phone. Much like we complain about the stupid notes button that we hit all the time. I'm just glad we can reassign those buttons and at least make they a long press or something.
hah, those pictures are funny on engadget. musta been with a crappy cellphone camera. I rarely use the qwerty keboard on my i730, so, if the phone actually works like it should, i will be #1 amazed, #2 a consumer.
hmmm, it looks nice. Small. But I am not digging it like I was the original "i760" pics we saw... Hmmm... I might be looking in to the 6800 now, since both have landscape keyboards. I do like the idea of the number pad still usable one handed without having to use the screen, but I am disappointed now.
Once some screenshots come out for the 6800 and maybe get a better feel for the size, I will make up my mind, and who knows, maybe I will get both the 6800 and i760, the 6800 in January/February when it's released, and the i760 in Q2/Q3 when it comes out, depending on how it feels.
MEG, as soon as we get a little more information that it is SURE coming out for the US, I am sure we will get a forum for it. We normally get those threads about a month or so before it's "officially" out when we get a little more confirmation (branded shots of the device, and possible confirmation on Verizon's website, or Sprints).
That shot my night, I was looking for an "update" to the i730, not a redesign...

What most of us want is the Euro i760, the obvious ix30 successor--with enhancements and tweaks, and for CDMA--not another clumsy HTC flavor.
These handset-makers just don't get it. They solicit no feedback from advanced users, fail to build on equity in proven architecture, and hatch new designs in isolation.
Porsche oughta be our PPC house. It understands the word "legacy."
I'm definitely liking the numeric keypad on the outside.

Unless the guy holding the phone in the pictures has real meat hooks, it actually looks pretty trim. Which I find appealing, to be sure. The 6800 may be a bit brawnier in the specs dept, but the tytn I find boxy and a bit awkward. I def think this phone will appeal to a certain crowd. I think so far it's got by far the most sex appeal of the stateside carrier subsidized PDA phones. Just wish they weren't so wishy washy with timelines, my new/2 came up in Nov. lol
I think there must be a lot of people that think the portrait sliding keyboard is too cramped without actually giving it a shot. That's the only explanation I can think of as to why every single new device has a landscape keyboard. For years I followed every new Pocket PC device with great interest in the new developments. Now I find myself skimming through the sites going "oh, a new square ppc phone with a landscape keyboard and the exact size and specs of the last ten. This one's charcoal grey instead of black." I have even given up my own Windows Mobile blog ( www.windowsmobileunderground.com )because I feel there isn't enough to write about.
That being said, the i760 will be my next phone. The portrait keyboard was a fantastic idea, but Samsung was it's only champion. If even they've given up on it, I think we can declare it dead. Let's all have a moment of silence and move on. We are tech enthusiasts, we must change with the technology. The i760 is still the most innovative phone to come through Verizon since the i730.
R.I.P. portrait keyboard. You were taken too soon.
