I was a victem of the 700W replacement. All I did was make the case of the wlan issue. I use it a lot and have expressed my dissatisfaction with the 700 vs the 6700 on this site. I don't, by any stretch, think the 700 is a bad device, but doesn't suit my needs. I made a good enough case for one of the managers and she had a new in the box 6700 sent to a retail store for me to pick up. I am happy. I didn't gripe, just made a good case. I think my words were: "can I be a squeeky hinge without being mean?" If she can make a case, then it makes it easy for her to follow through. I will say, however, that I am the owner of a 20 device account and I think they treat me differently than when I only had 4. For the most part, I have been treated with respect throughout (I'm sorry, am I rambling?). The point is that you should be able to get the 6700, but I don't think it is a good idea to make a scene in the retail store. Take the 700 then call cs.

after 71 pages and 1406 posts in this thread i dont think price is even a factor! almost anyone watching this thread JUST WANTS ONE and is willing to spend the $$$!!!
back to reality... im sure it will be around what the i730 was unless VZW gets slightly smart and prices it to sell in volume at $299 with a 2yr bid...
I suspect it will be a cheaper than the i730 was at launch. The i730 really blew away everything else on the market. The i760 is a much more evolutionary device.
What makes you think Verizon is afraid of the iPhone? QUOTE]
I agree, Verizon made a business decision.
And as far as you all complaining about the VZW marketing vs. everyone else.... unless your DONNY DEUTSCH, then VZW probably knows more about marketing than you ever will, so I don't want to here it.
PS you can get a tracfone for one low fee and no contract .
This dicsussion is about how veriozon is possibly holding the release of the 760 because of the release of the iphone...how does that not sound like they are afraid of it if that is the case?

I think the only thing VZW is afraid of is losing money. Any decisions they make will be based upon that premise, including what they do or don't do in "adjusting" the capabilities of the hardware, as well as when the 760 will be released and how much they can/should charge.
I'm with the Pastor on this one. Ground Breaking vs. Evolutionary has little to do with "How Much Can We Take Them For?". Therefore in the name of common sense and letting you guys figure out the positives and negatives, I will sit back and watch your testing unfold before I buy one, regardless of price!

Yes yawn, you must be right, all release dates of every product are based on fear. The i730 was released in spring 2005, yet samsung had it before the fall of 2004, they must have been afraid. Apple announced the iPhone when?, and it is being released in June, they must have been afraid of something. 2008 cars are already being sold, must be afraid 2008 will not get here.

Leave it to the Pastor to completely rule out evolution.
Unfortunately I agree, they're going to take what they can get. ground breaking doesn't always mean expensive. It can also mean pricing it low enough to not discourage interest ,like the Ps3 where Sony is losing money now in hopes that people embrace the technology. So the new i760 might come in higher than the 730 since it doesn't have that first model stigma to it.
As for the fear of iPhone. It's less about fearing the iPhone as a device and more about fearing wasting ad dollars to get swallowed up and ignored by the Apple Machine. If they make a big noise now, it'll get drowned out. Let apple make their noise and hope to take some of the new found PDA interest with a close follow up launch. just my .02.

Based on the lack of VZW noise surrounding the i730 release, I would be shocked if they tried to make noise around the i760. I'd be pleasantly shocked, but shocked nonetheless.
I think the whole iPhone theory is wrong. What Verizon looks for is market share. When Treos/PocketsPCs/BlackBerrys are marketed, they are marketed toward corporate users buying 100s, 1000s, or in the case of BlackBerrys 10,000s. Corporations are not going to be turned by iPhones. This is strictly geared toward consumers and no one else. True, in numbers, customers do dictate (look at the iPod). However, who is the target for this sector? High School Kids and College Kids living off Mommy & Daddy's Family Plan. I doubt their parents' corporations are going to switch to another vendor (AT&T) because of iPhones.
Hate to break it to this group, but we are an exceptional group. This group is a bunch of technical folks squeezing every capability out of i730. Every see the ordinary user using a Treo? They are lucky if they can play an MP3. My point is, we are not a target group for Verizon. We are lucky if we are 2,000 in number total. One big corporation can blow that number out of the water. iPhone just don't appeal to those large corporations. Email, Internet, and most most most importantly Security appeal to corporations.

Because fear is a stupid fanboy word. Even if Verizon thought they made the biggest mistake of their life letting the iPhone go they wouldn't be AFRAID of it. Still, I really doubt Verizon would partner with Apple even if they were given a second chance now, it's just not the way they do business.
Is the iPhone affecting Verizon's strategy? Probably, the iPhone is obviously going to have an impact on the market on hype alone if nothing else. Responding to the market is just good business sense though, not fear.

Really? I think it has a lot to do with it. If a device is far better than anything else on the market people will pay a large premium for it. If a device is only slightly better than the competition, then people will be much less likely to buy it if it is expensive because they have other options.

I agree the i760 is not the same market as the iphone.
However, the Prada is a different story.........
