The real problem with this whole delayed release is that the phone will be OBSOLETE when it's finally released. My I730 was obsolete the day i upgraded to wm5, as the software/phone then required a ton of tweeking just to make it work.
Some people have postulated that Verizon doesn't want to release the i760 now, to avoid people returning the phone during the trial period to buy an iPhone. Does Verizon really gain anything by doing that, though?
If somebody is willing to try the i760 it means they're at least considering switching to/staying with Verizon. If they like it not only has Verizon made a phone sale they have a valuable customer for the next 1-2 years. Without attractive phone options even more people are going to switch, and given the fact Verizon makes most of their money on service contracts that seems like a bad move.
and make sure you say at&t in lowercase! i recently had a phone tech from at&t at an install tell me how the old AT&T was in uppercase and the new one is at&t and not cingular or SBC or SNET or Ma Bell and that they are not a monopoly again...
just a little humor for the day!!!
and oh yeah, the iPhone will be exclusive to at&t... for a while from what people are saying...
We had a phone with the OLD AT&T for years, it took from last thursday the 24th until today to go from the OlD TDMA with AT&T to the new GSM with at&t. that was fun.
I was under the impression that the iPhone is GSM and wouldnt be offered in the US??? Yes...no...
What is not being said is Yes, the iPhone will be GSM. That is not a reason to not be released in the US since both AT&T (at&t?) and T-Mobile are GSM carriers.
Well, actually....GSM is being upgraded to WCDMA....but for most users they'll still call it GSM.
What makes you think Verizon is afraid of the iPhone? Even given all the hype, I seriously doubt Verizon would change its decision. Apple wanted too many concessions, and Verizon is not the kind of company that likes to give up control (or profits).
Yes, some people will defect to at&t for the iPhone. I suspect sales of other smartphones will actually INCREASE though, as awareness about the capabilities of PDA phones increases.
I know Verizon is in no danger of losing me as a customer. There are too many features I'm unwilling to give up to make the switch.
I agree, i would never leave VZW for an IPHONE. just dealing with at&t (yesterday) is reason [for me] to not leave VZW.
If i want an IPOD (which i don't and won't own) i would go get one. What kills me is watching the MAC users who think the phone is the greatest thing since sliced bread. bragging that it has over 200 patents on it.

I agree, Verizon made a business decision.
And as far as you all complaining about the VZW marketing vs. everyone else.... unless your DONNY DEUTSCH, then VZW probably knows more about marketing than you ever will, so I don't want to here it.
PS you can get a tracfone for one low fee and no contract .
I agree I was surprised how much I like the looks. I think the 760 better come out soon or I am just going to start buying random electronics.
In other news anyone see the Foleo? Palm, Inc. - Products - Foleo
I think they said this works with Windows Mobile, anyone thinking of getting one for their 760? I'd rather wait and get a slim laptop ala the Metro.
So the big feature of the HTC is multitouch? I'm still having trouble picturing how beneficial multitouch is going to be on the iPhone in daily use. I can't imagine multitouch could help much on Windows Mobile without full OS support.
i got the i730 and i was wondering that when this phone comes out if i call the insurence if they would send me the i760????????
Maybe 2 years from now. They keep a surplus of devices for people. That surplus has to run out first. They are only obligated to give you the same unit, not an upgrade. In the past a few i700 users got i730's but that was well after the i700 wasn't being made anymore.
