I'm left wondering if the crackdown on information has more to do with keeping the FCC Confidentiality in force than anything else.
Of course, I guess I should qualify that by admitting that I must be a cynic since I think the delay in releasing the i760 might be because it doesn’t work.
I don't fully understand their marketing strategy either, and the thought I shared is just that - a thought. And I surely don't agree with that as being correct strategy.
But, I think whatever VZW's strategy is, in order to even remotely understand it, we have to not think from our point of view (which is, the phone is ready so let us have it) to their point of view. And, simply put, just follow the money. The ONLY reason that they EVER release any phone is just that - to make money. So, according to that logic, they will release the phone when they feel they can make the most money. When they won't lose money by returns and tech support. When it won't be forgotten and miss sales because of the public's attention on another product. When they <cringe> assure that people can't abuse the phone with things causing their network to bog down or worse yet people avoid paying them extra charges, etc.
I really have no clue as to what their thought process is. And, their track record is that they product test their phones to the nth degree before ever releasing them. And, disagree as much as we want to, last time I checked, VZW hasn't filed for bankruptcy, and are showing a handsome profit. So, frankly, I would think that their concern about our concern of a release time means nothing to them.
Good point, I would venture to say we won't see the release until after the iPhone is only because they don't want returns during the 30 day test drive Verizon currently offers.
This whole thing is incredibly stupid and frustrating. There can only be one "hot" phone at a time. I doubt that anyone can compete with the Apple Fanboy's so just realease the DAMN phone already.
Everyday when I reboot my 730 about 10 times a day, i think I cant wait for the new phones to be released. i am damn near tempted to chuck it and just get a smartphone.

Are you really soft reseting 10 times a day?
Dude, it's time for a hard reset.

Anyone that has to reboot/soft reset their i730 ten times a day or every five minutes, you are having problems with your software installation, almost certainly not your phone. As Mark said, do a hard reset, and then carefully follow MRailing's set up instructions, and your i730 will be rock solid.
I know that no one likes to do a hard reset - the thought of wiping everything just seems so harsh. I am the same way. But, necessity made me do it a while back, and I can tell you that my phone is far more stable now than it was before.
Whatever problems you are having that make you soft reset that often, my guess is that unless you change whatever you are doing in setting your phone up, you will have the exact same problems with the i760 - or any pda phone - unless you change your set up.
Ok so I am going to throw out the least thought out theory on the release. The i730 released around July 4th 2005 so I am going to assume July 1st 2007 for the i760. Since if I remember right he first one in the US was picked up around there in Miami. We should start a pool on the release date.
I want it sooner but I waited 2 years already and that is a record for a gadget for me.
Before VZW my business used Sprint, from Sprint I went to Nextel. Nextel was great until Sprint bought them, and I went to Verizon.
Point being when I was a Nextel customer (5+ years) I probably had a new phone every 9 months or so. The fact that I have had the same phone since 2005 is almost unheard of. I am definitely at the end of my "rope" for patience with this new phone.
Verizon needs to release this phone, and honestly if VZW wasn't the best service I've ever had no matter where I go (and it is) I might consider jumping ship just go get my hands on a new device....
I think I speak for everyone when I say, I am so ready for this new phone, that I am on this thread 10 times a day. No joke..... And like many others have read every post, on every page for the last 69 pages... As if reading all this information will some how make the wait easier......
Patience might be the Key Word of the day Remember VZW has released dependable Pocket PC's even though it has been "late" according to our "standards" its only a matter of weeks now, so lets keep the cheese and lasagna threads cooked up so the wait won't seem that bad

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
VZW still won't want the phone lost in the Apple marketing campaign. Nor do they want people returning the phone after a test drive and picking up an apple.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like it's gonna be pricey! Glad I'm single... and selfish. Does look like a slick phone though.
I wish Samsung would put some info on their website about their new phones. The secrets are helping them how? why not add some buzz to their new products before they begin advertising for them and release. give your customers something to look forward too. I am not convinced the i760 has a WOW factor to make me really want it? yes i plan on getting an i760 but only because i am not sure how much life my 2 year old i730 has left. I i like my i730 and want to stick to something similar.

You mean the Apple BS campaign? Phones aren't even comparable.
One's a toy, the other is a business tool.
Maybe VZW should snap a few of us are already bored with the unreleased SCH-i760 and are ready to move on to a Photon device with at least Rev. A. and a VGA screen.

My thoughts exactly...comparing oranges and apples...
My lil sis wants one so she can combine her cell phone and ipod. Her soon to be fiance has a Treo 700W and we both were talking to her about the lack of good P.I.M. ability and officey type tools. She started laughing, as if no one had heard what she said. She wanted an ipod that had an address book and made phone calls. But, many people buy for hype and then buy something else in a few months when the hype dies down and all they have is an ipod that makies phone calls.

Thanks!.. My phone finally figured that out for me. Yesterday I did the obligatory soft reset between phone calls and it decided it didnt want to reboot. Hard reset and all seems right with the world. I am not going to add any software this time as I am still waiting for the 760.
I still think it sucks that you can spend hours setting up your phone the way you want and it will run solid for months and then it just starts slowly self destructing. I wouldn't put up w/ this on a non-phone PDA or a laptop. Of course I imagine the 760 will have its own unique set of annoyances and quirks (errr i mean features).
