Also since it was mentioned that people don't like reading 54 pages (or 1100 posts), all the important information from this thread is already posted in our FAQ thread, Movies thread, Pictures thread, and others. The point of a Release/Rumor thread is a chronological discussion of the device before we know anything up to the release, at which point we close it, especially if it continues to be bumped with discussion. This helps see what we learned and how the information came to shape the device. Many of the previous release thread are over hundred pages, and over a few thousand posts, and yes, are hard to follow, but on a device like this with an active moderator, the important information is generally pulled out and posted, as it has been, as generally all LONG threads are.
Again, we are hearing the users comments on long threads, and looking at better ways to resolve this, and have some in the works, but if you are a new comer to this thread, know that the important information from here, is already pulled out and in the other threads in the this forum.
I love threads like this... Total speculation.. it brings out the true nature of online forums..everyone has an opinion, no one is wrong, everyone has passion for the subject! If you wanna see a speculation thread that took on a life of its own check out the old speculation thread in the Kyo 7135 forum when that device started getting delayed! Oh the black helicopters were flyin' there!

Hey, I was on those threads then (I think it was even a different site and then merged with pdaphonehome). That was unreal. The i730 was a good one also.

Regarding wireless device forum speculation/release threads, here's an interesting factoid:
PDAPhH's i760 Release/Rumor thread (this thread) currently reflects 1,122 posts and 98,598 views.
In comparison, consider stats for equivalent threads covering the forthcomng Lenovo ThinkPad T61/T61p (a new generation of what's arguably the industry's best-built/supported business-class notebook family). From two forums*, the threads reflect a total of 150 posts and 26,678 views.
Why the great disparity?
The simple answer is...frustration. The difference is the measure of just how much m-o-b-i-l-i-t-y matters and how hard it is to achieve. Given the sadly mediocre nature of current (and announced) devices and carriers' insufferably bad habits, it's apparent that the US wireless industry doesn't yet get mobility. In turn, post-count--a proxy for road warrior blood pressure--pops off the chart.

Be careful what you wish for. I'd like to think the device will be out before those numbers are reached, especially since my NE2 date is May 14. Seems a little bleak at this point for anything before the 2 year anniversary of the 7/2005 release date of the i730. Its starting to remind me of the wait for the WM5 upgrade.
At the rate at which the i760 isn't being released, we just may catch up!
Actually, the difference is probably twofold:
1) The i730 wasn't incrementally better than predecessors, it was dramatically better, and
2) There are many more PPC/smartphone choices today than two years ago; all carriers now have 802.11x-equipped devices and all but T-Mo offer broadband.
The justification for the i730 anticipation thread's being exceptional is that the product is still competitive after two years!
This distinction isn't likely to be repeated and will certainly not apply to the i760. With limited horsepower and RAM, and absent EvDO A, power users in major markets will soon be restless.
I was really holding out hope (as futile as it might seem) that the i760 would be released by my birthday (this Wednesday). However, in reading the past few days' posts, it sure doesn't seem like that's going to happen. So now, I'm hoping that the i760 will be released for Father's Day so when my wife asks me what I want, I can tell her the i760.

I just received an email from my Contact at VZW (regional data sales mgr)
this was his comment
"We don't anticipate that the Samsung i760 will be released until the summer timeframe. It did not make the "Spring" timeframe. They are still working on the testing and certification of the device. "
Hmmm I could be wrong but I seem to remember someone saying it would be June...Where is he I can't find him.. Looks in mirror, oh there here is I still say its June or July. June is I believe not only the anniversary month of the i730, the summer also symbolizes warmth, vibrancy, new life in bloom, it's the 6th month being the number of man, and its when some other phones are going to be coming out..but really, I just have a strong feeling it's most likely June. July the latest, as its the 7th month, a whole/holy number being good but not really representative of Verizon..so July the latest, they can do some 4th of July marketing junk, unless they really screw up or have set backs with the testing. I wonder how sturdy that device will be though..
Dom. they are going to release it just as you are walking out the door for Vacation. I know that's how its going down. Then when you get back, they will be sold out.
But doesn't this device seem to be getting a lot more attention than the i730? The only thing that really stuck out to me in terms of attracting a popular level consumer, as opposed to tech geek, was Cnets coverage. I'm seeing the i760 like everywhere, with many more types of Cnet like tech coverage groups in forums, cable, and online broadcasts. Seemed like the i730 was and I think still is a huge light but smothered in a blanket of ignorance and quiet for most part from a popular level consumer standpoint. I was interviewed for a Verizon Wireless position the other day, being told that they can't hire former Verizon employees, but the people had never seen the i730 before. I guess they can't be an expert on everything.

Jay... we'll postpone your birthday in honor of the release... how's that!
Dom.. maybe vzw is learning from its marketing blunders with the i730... NOT. I still think the carriers still don't "get" PDA phones/convergence in the business world. Text messaging teenyboppers they "get"

We won't see any neat or leading edge technology until the cell service providers get out of selling PPC devices. Then we will see the distinction that you mention KBAM. Once we can buy them direct from the manufacturers we will see really cool devices.

So this post doesn’t get moved.........I hope the i760 meets your expectations.

Actually no, the i730 had LOTS more hype around it before release, and KBAM hit it on the head with his last post. The i760 has a lot of competition and the i730 was a HUGE step forward for devices (which is why it's still a great device, and even devices released today don't meet all of it's specs). The i730's hype stemmed from 3 devices, the 6600, i700, and the i600. There also was some hype from the Palm devices that were out, so it was meeting the hype of around 3-6 devices of people, all of which were active on the forum. Now the i760 is being released with a handful of smartphone devices, the 6800, and some Treo devices, so hype is spread out.
I see "Ethan" tomorrow. So I will corner him and see if I can get the complete low down on time tables and what the delay is about.

Just as an aside, it's pretty sad to think that VZW's last new Pocket PC, the Treo 700W, was released in January 2006 (I'm sorry, but the 700wx doesn't qualify as a new device). WM devices are supposed to be the future of mobile communication and it's taken VZW a year and a half to release a new device?!? It's absolutely incredible to me that it takes them so long to "certify" (i.e. cripple) these devices.

Not only that, but it took them a ridiculous amount of time to even get the 700wx released.

Mark, if you could pull that off, I'd be very grateful! It'll be my 40th, and I'm not looking forward to leaving my 30s.
