I hope you are right. When the i730 came out, didn't it also come out with something back then also? Maybe the Treo 650?

Just wanted to weigh in on this. From my personal experience and from listening to a ton of other people on this board's experiences, the answers that come from ANY reps are misinformed 99% of the time. No matter how important of a customer you are or how certain the rep seems to be of his/her info, the fact is that they just don't know. It's a sad fact that the "hearsay" type information seems to be much more reliable (maybe 25%-50% accurate). Take what you hear from the reps with a grain of salt.

Make that a BIG grain of salt!

Nothing frustrates me more than to be BS'd by some bozo who doesn't know even as much as I know (and I'm not an expert on phones, by any stretch of the imagination!).

O.T. --- I can think of one thing that bothers me more.
I was at a VZ store the other day just to pick up replacement for my wifes phone. While I was there I figured I would ask about the 760.....Mistake. I of course never expected any real information. What I got was the dull stare of not understanding followed by a sales pitch for the 6700. I quote "I like this one the best" when asked why the answer was because "it pretty."

I will never understand the modern sales rep. Has it become so easy that all you have to do is wait for the fish to jump from the barrel.

Back On Topic
I have a concern about the form factor being smaller. How much do you think the possible battery life will be affected. Or have any of the reports said anything about it. The 730 was always a little low in my opinion but i just carried extra batteries but that is burdensome.

As it has been said many times before, this little group here has tons more info than any Verizon rep. That goes for stores, strategic accounts, and even 1st level engineers. Pathetic is an understatement.

I can say, with a high degree of certainty, then "i760" means "i730" to every store. I am sure you will also get wonderful quotes like: "I never heard of that," "Won't happen anytime soon, and I just check what new phone are coming out," or my favorite, "That is probably Sprint or Cingular...it certainly isn't us...I would know." It is a strange form of comedy.

If you want a round of depression, just walk into a store, and start asking questions...they are bozo central. I would be surprised if they are making above minimum wage. For me, it is a strange type of masocism.

However, wan't to freak them out, print out a picture of the phone after they give you the pitch about how it won't happen until 2008. Watch them crawl after that, because they know they have been caught BS'ing you. That is all it is....just flat BS.

Sorry for the rant...but all they know in the stores is what flavor the Chocolate Bar will be next. Just pathetic.

I agree that for the most part that most VZW reps, CS, and tech support people are extremely clueless. However, its been my experience there are exceptions, and a select few b2b reps seem to be pretty reliable.

What typically seems to happen is you start to see a trend in the info provided that ends up pretty accurate.

Has there been any info in terms of how this device will be charged? Will there be a car charger or simply an AC adapter?

If Samsung is "true to form" there will only be an AC charger included. However all indications are that existing i730/i700/i600 chargers will work with the i760. Appears to be the same proprietary connector.

I don't think VZW is in the habbit of loaning "Test" units prior to their "Release date". i'm testing a few devices now and they are all handled through their "Viennachannels" partner. that means, after the release date and "everyone" gets there phones, then the Viennachannels group gets them, they can then send out as demo's.

The PN820 was available for Demo about 6 weeks after you or I could have ordered it on line.

I Have also tried for prerelease demo's with my Rep, and they have about as much info (probably less) than we do on the product.

Actually, there are a select group of people called FUT (Friendly User Testing). This group is very preferred customers, or people they have selected to work with. This group of people occasionally get devices not yet released, or that they are considering releasing. Once the FCC approves the device, they then ship it to the FUT users to try in the real world. This also happens with pre-release software, like the WM5 OS. It was pulled off an FUT device.

So some devices do get released early, with a very clearly written Non-disclosure agreement. If the NDA is violated, they are normally removed from the FUT, so most FUT people don't talk about their devices.

I have been trying to become and FUT person for years, through both the appropriate channels, and through my contacts, all have failed. I have no problems following an NDA, as I have signed many for various jobs, but it's a difficult area to get in to, and they normally only pick a few people from very large accounts...

As talked about above, talking to normal CS reps at Verizon is pointless and very few actually know about upcoming devices that are being released. I have even had a few reps tell me to check this website for information, as many of the "knowledgeable" reps even pull stuff from the web, since internally it's pretty tight lipped. Some B2B reps for large companies, that have dealt with the FUT users might know a little more, but those are far and few between.

Reps at stores are FAR worse. They know what they have, and almost all of them want to sell you something NOW, not later. When the i730 was going to be released, a store rep told me 3 days before the release (when we already had confirmed of it's date) that the i730 wouldn't be released until November, I laughed at him, and said I would see him in a week with an i730 in my hand and he said that I wouldn't have it. I came back 5 days later with it, and everyone there wanted to play with it, since it was still 2 weeks before they were getting it.

Now, it still is good to hear about what the reps say, as 99 of 100 remarks for, "it's coming out on XX of XX month" is usually an indicator that information has been provided, but this usually isn't the case until a week or so before release.

If you call CS, don't bother asking, you will only get an inaccurate response, as they don't know. If you have a business rep, and you have a large account, it's worthwhile asking, as they "can" find out, and sometimes follow up with good information, although most has been fairly inaccurate.

=====================================================

Now on to more interesting news. Talked to "Ethan" today in person, as he was in Bloomington for Little 500, and he didn't have an i760 on him. Told me he didn't want to loose it in a drunken mess, which he was last night and was going to be again tonight. If he had it on him, I would have stayed in Bloomington and would have bought him all the alcohol I could have, and would have stolen it off of him.... But he didn't have it, plus I was going to play with it more, and try to snap some pics of it with the i760 next to it, since I had my camera with me.

He still is saying we should hear more by Late May...

Agree on the CS and local B2B rep

I agree with you all on the CSRep, stores, and local reps. That is why I went to our national rep to see what they would say since we are a very large IT services company with more than 150k employees. I was hoping to get lucky since there have been some reports of reps with phone. The offer of the loaner phone was for a development project where we are developing for a mobile workforce and WM6 might be the way to go. So potential 500+ phone purchase might get them to give up a loaner or the date. Odds are the reports we hear are correct and end of May but if I get lucky and get a real date I will report it if not it was worth the phone call to try.

I got the I730 the day it was released to the business channel 2 years ago and like the rest of you I cant wait for a replacement.

MR, If Ethan has an I760, and didn't bring it with him, what was his second phone of choice. My thought is, if the 760 Is great then it would be my first choice, and at that point, Who cares about the lost phone in a "drunken Mess". Heck, he works for VZW, they'll make more.

Little 500 is the greatest college party weekend on any campus (oh and there is a bicycle race tied to it too). I have seen Ethan literally loose everything but his pants before, and he's not a very smart drunk. He also likes to drink, so mixing those two make for an interesting night, which does make for a fun night when you are out with him. He also knew he wasn't going to have much time to do much, besides drink and hang out with his old frat brothers, and he was crashing in the old house with his little brothers, brother, or something like that.

His i760 is still on NDA, and he uses it, but doesn't carry it much. He brought with him a Moto RAZR, mostly for the thin size, and the fact he was traveling as light as possible. I didn't recognize the number he called me from, so it might have been just a phone he had laying around and decided to use it. Also even though he works for VZW, pre-release models of phones aren't something that just grow on trees, and a loss of it wouldn't make the powers that be very happy. Plus it's a weekend off, meaning no e-mail, no internet, and just spending the weekend in an alcoholic haze for him. If he had the i760, then he would be checking his e-mail all the time, and wouldn't be able to spend that time drinking (did I mention he likes to party...)

So even though I LOVE my i730, I still pay for family share and have a secondary phone, a Moto RAZR myself, and I just forward my number to it when I want something thin and light and only want to talk. No reason loosing my "work" phone and then being up a creek for the time waiting for a replacement to be sent, and Ethan's the same way.

Plus the RAZR is such a popular phone, if he needs to charge up, someone's got a car charger or home charger for the RAZR, and that's not always true with other phones.

It's all about being small and light, and being able to easily get young college coeds' phone numbers.... Man I miss Little 500, this is one the first years I have chosen not to be there for it hanging out with old friends that I don't get to see but once a year.

Got to play with it

Yep. It's hawt. It feels good in the hands. Very well built. Menus move FAST. My R&D guy had one. Don't know (won't give out) release dates. Just wanted to tell the Sammy Fanboys that it looks like an awesome phone. I personally hate Sammys so....whatever.

Just my $0.02.

I'm confused by your post. The I760 is "hawt". "Feels good in the hands" "Very well built" Menus move FAST". You use an i730 now, which is by all accounts an awesome and well built phone. But you close by saying you hate Sammys? I can only conclude you either had an ex-girlfriend named Samantha that ended very badly, or you strongly disagree with South Koreas stand on the two China's policy.
