Remi is WELL connected in VZW circles. He would not "say" it if it weren't possible.
Hey Michael, what does "Ethan" think?
Mark, "Ethan's" exact words were (and he has said this all 4,132 times I have asked, although that number might be a bit smaller in terms of asking) "Expect a release in May". I said, can you narrow it down to any date specifically, or a general area. He said, "Towards the end of May."
I said is that "confirmed", he said "(explicative) NO! You should know VZW by now, give or take a month..." then he laughed.
So, "towards the end of May" is what he said.
At least we are seeing other confirmation of "May", and hopefully it sticks. From what Ethan said "They are waiting for the i730 inventory to sell out", I asked how much longer, he said "It's low, very low right now".

So I should convince all the med students around here that need a PDA by June to buy up i730's now that Dell has given up on the Axim.
And then when they ask me why I'm pushing it and don't have an i730 myself, I'll just say I'm waiting for my NE2 to come up.
When are the general VZW reps notified of new PDAPhones? When is info available on VZW's intranet?
I'm just curious because two days ago I called VZW customer service to ask a general question about their new "unlimited" text messaging plan. While I had the rep on the call, I mentioned to him that I was waiting for the i760 to be released. He had no clue what the i760 was and searched VZW's intranet but couldn't find any info. Mind you, I didn't expect him to know anything about the i760. I just figure that at some point before the actual release of the i760, VZW must "educate" its customer service reps and publish info on its intranet. So, I'm curious as to how far in advance general, frontline VZW reps are notified of new hardware.

They announce it inhouse about a week or two before the release, which is when they start training. Normally around 2 weeks, but sometimes as short as a week before it goes on sale.

Thanks, Michael. With such a short training period, it's no wonder most reps (or at least the ones in the stores) aren't very knowledgeable about PDAPhones.
I figure around May 1 would be a good time to start calling VZW and asking about the i760. Maybe one call a week ....

yeah, it is amazing how little the store reps know sometimes. how many times i have walked in with my i730 and ended demo-ing mine to someone there with what you can do with them. the same thing happens with my Q now too. i actually just had a rep 2 weeks ago ask me to show her how to use her Q (she hadnt dont the software update yet) in the store and all the reps really bugged out when i showed them how i changed the silver housing on my Q to the dark grey housing from sprint and even removed the sprint logos (looks way better now!)... sorry if i got o/t but is funny!
I was just checking out PhoneScoop.com's 'New FCC Approvals' page, and was surprised to find that the SCH-i760 is now listed there! Yeah, the FCC status is old news around here, but I recently asked 'Rich' at PhoneScope why they hadn't posted the news on the site. His response was that they don't post the FCC approvals until they have "full details" to post in their database; and he wrote that last week (the 14th, to be precise).
This lead me to revisit the FCC site, and lo and behold, there's info that I don't think was there before... including lists of several documents whose 'short-term confidentiality' expires 5/14/07... and that includes the user manual! Perhaps I simply didn't notice all the documents when I first visited the site, but whether or not that's the case, the dates are certainly suggestive.
Methinks that one might infer that the SCH-i760 may go fully public in the second half of May, though I don't know what that says about the actual Verizon release date. At any rate, we may get more definitive info on the phone in late May.
It doesn't matter the date, it can be requested to be moved forward...

In the current issue of Smartphone & PocketPC magazine, there was a little blurb about the i760, but it was pictured on the front cover entitled, ""New Ultra-Usable Windows Mobile 6 Smartphones". I subscribe to it electronically (call me a geek). In any event, I did a screen capture of the blurb. They do say Verizon in the blurb, which is the first time that is was publically announced (although everybody knows it was coming from Verizon because of all the pictures).

You're correct that the FCC Equipment Authorization site now displays new SCH-i760 doc listings (sans contents). We might call these new items, er, the "Four Horsemen."
They are precisely what we're denied due to vendor ("Grantee") corruption of the FCC's short-term confidentiality provision. (Why these docs weren't even listed on 03/30/07 is unclear; perhaps an oversight or glitch?)
For each doc, the number string is the .pdf file size; the "Yes," "No," "Yes" refers to status vis-á-vis these line-items:
Permanent Confidential
Short-Term Confidential
Supercede Date Available
The "Supercede Date" itself is the end of the first 45-day short-term confidentiality interval. As mrailing suggests, Samsung has already requested THREE renewals of this privacy term (a total of 180 days); doing so in this way is another abuse of the public's right to transparency.
Thus, there is NO CHANCE that these docs will become public on 05/14/07 (let alone earlier) unless 1) the device is released, or 2) we complain.
Once again, the basis for our challenge (see Sticky) is statutory "public marketing activity," which complaint should pierce Samsung's unwarranted veil of secrecy.
Are we ready, mates?

KBAM,
Understood... but perhaps my point was missed?
What I was trying to point out was that the 5/14 date sort of bolsters the remarks that mrailing has attributed to 'Ethan', as well as Remi's recent post.
While you're absolutely correct that Samsung has requested extensions that would go beyond 5/14, my thinking is that they may have filed for the extensions 'just in case'. In other words: the extensions may be nothing more than a fall-back option... they may not intend to use them if they're ready to go public in May.
I'm all for proceeding with your petition to the FCC, so full speed ahead in that regard. But I still hope that it will prove to be unnecessary.
Still, I found it to be an interesting coincidence that PhoneScoop had just told me that they didn't have enough info to list the SCH-i760, but now they have it posted (albeit, with no real info, yet). "Hope springs eternal", eh?
I think it's just a coincidence about the 5/14 date and what we have heard about the release. 5/14 is the 45 day period after the initial request for Short-term confidentiality. When they request the next 45 days, the dates will change to the end of June, just as they recently did for the 6800, since the first dates posted for it's STC were middle of April, now it lists the first of June, which is why I posted the link in my reply to you.
It's just a coincidence on the date, and nothing should be read in to it being anywhere near a release date...

I just noted that the Infosync website appears to have updated their 'guess' (?) regarding the SCH-i760's release date. It now says 'May' (I think it had been 'June' before).
I don't know how good this info is. If you read the article, it says that it will be a smartphone because of no stylis. I think that is a little off.
John
You're quite correct that their info is suspect because of the glaring error re: the stylus remark and their smartphone vs.PocketPC identification. But remember that initially, almost no one (including the people manning the Samsung booth at CES!) knew that there was a stylus, even though it was there all along (you can see the stylus' head in even the earliest photos). And also note also that they still list the carrier as 'unknown'.
But this is the same info they've had on the site for several months, except that I think that they may have updated their release date estimate. It does make you wonder how assiduously they work to keep their info current, doesn't it?
FYI - I also just contacted our Verizon B2B rep about the release of the 760. This is our national account rep and I think we have 30K plans+ so I am hoping for some info. I mentioned that I am working on a project at a client who is looking at a WM6 platform where I believe the 760 would be the right choice but I need to set expectations with the client on release date so I can plan the project. Should kick it into gear. We are currently using WM5 in the plan but hey doesnt hurt to say the client might buy 300 units . I will update with info when I have it.
maybe VZW wants 5/14 to be a big release day??? http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/0...-8830-details/
engadget is showing 5/14 as the release date for the new BB8830...
coincedence? or will VZW release their 1st wm6 device and "world" BB on the same day???
