Thanks to all for encouragement and support regarding our FCC challenge.
After rewrites and tweaks, the letter now seems to spin pretty well. Always tough to teach a pet to sing...
If anyone wants changes in the model, speak up.
mrailing has a plan regarding our syndicating the war via key wireless news sites and forums; there's no question FCC confidentiality abuse is a story that must be told. He'll keep us advised as to rollout.
Remember, too, virtually every device-maker is now playing this shell game and corrupting a once-gracious effort by the FCC to help radioboys protect their intellectual property. Once our heads-up propagates, the letter can be widely deployed to serve "Truth, Justice and the American Way."
Have reviewed the posted links. While they're all useful, those that best make our case are the releases issued directly by Samsung. The "Insight Newsletter" tops the list because it was mass-emailed to legions of consumers. A disconnect: Sammy files its confidentiality letter with the FCC and dispatches this promo the very next day! A gimme for #1 Smoking Gun.
If this ain't "marketing activity," my MBA's going back to Wal*Mart!
We can commence the air war whenever mrailing gives the high sign. While not mandatory, we ask those who participate to post in the Complaint thread that a letter was sent. This way, we can maintain the count of message bombardment. (Alternatively, a counter could be set up via an anonymous poll.)
This campaign is a small step, but it can lead to constructive change--and bigger conquests for a nation of tyrannized mobile warriors. In the end, it's not about phones; it's about...Empowerment.
I am going to setup a POLL question in this board with these simple questions:
I sent a message to the FCC via:
1. E-Mail
2. Fax
3. Snail-Mail
Once the poll is up, then you can cast your vote, and at the same time, I will have instructions posted in the FCC thread.
I am currently working on the instructions, and KBAM, I posted a question for you in the FCC thread....

Honesty, don't bother with E-mail or Fax. The US Government does not recognized these as legal methods. It has to be Snail-Mail, but it has to be in the form of "Federal Express" or "Registered Mail." Something that is traceable. This is the government you know. CYA is the motto.

zucchero, you raise a critical question. Do you offer this as a general advisory or is there a known, specific issue with FCC complaints via email going unanswered? It's hard to imagine a coherent, fully documented complaint to the FCC (as provided for in the link below) not receiving attention.
Anyone who sends this sort of letter--by any method--has every right to expect an investigation and a timely response.
I am not sure about the FCC tract, but I deal with the Federal Government at work. They will not even accept emails with a digital signature as legal...it must be on paper. Then what do they do? They scan the email in to have a digital copy. I am just telling you my personal experience (and I really can't explain more than that). What I can tell you is that I deal with 3 different organizations within 2 branches of government, and the process is the same.

That drives me nutty!
A 8.00 hr clerk is going to tell me that an e-mail is not expectable?
This is the 21st century for God sakes......... in a few years all correspondence will/should be electronic.

I curious as to why we are going about trying to request the FCC remove the confidentiality of the 760 when the phone is going to be released in a month or 2? I know we all want to know as mutch as possible, but by doing this, don't we risk loosign the kind of access we have had on future devices? I mean if this is sucessful, what makes us think that Samsung will dummy up on the next big thing going forward? Or am I thinking wrong here?

He will also tell you that it's not acceptable.
Actually, he won't tell you anything. The federal government will not accept any email petitions, etc, because anyone can generate anonymous emails, and all petitions, requests, etc, must be from a real person at a real address.

Eric
echew, the simple answer is that Short-Term FCC Confidentiality protection plays no role whatsoever in the "pre-release" marketing or spinning of these Kewpie dolls. It's simply a pro forma "gimme" that's there for the taking.
If the confidentiality provision disappeared tomorrow, nothing would change. There's so much pressure on device-makers to create mind-share that enormously more audacious campaigns than anything yet seen are inevitable.
When you think about it, a device's fate is sealed well in advance of release. If it doesn't generate bigtime inertia from early demos and press reports, it's doomed.

And I see many people still write checks......
tsatryan my religious friend......you got me.

I pay most bills by electronic payment, but I still have to write a few checks. And, interestingly, I get my tax refund from the IRS... electronically! Go figure...
Mark, I gotta get in the digs when I can! And, oh, by the way... I'm not religious. I just love the Lord!
Actually yes and no. We want the stuff in the FCC thread to be information towards the actual documents and information, and would still like general discussion here, as well as the rest of the i760 talk.
We would like to keep the FCC thread just for matters of the "case" and general questions here...

Currently 2GB is the maximum transflash/microSD size. At CES, CBIT, or CTIA (can't remember which) this year, SanDisk introduced a 4GB microSD card, that would be out Q2/Q3 this year, which would make it the largest microSD card.
So there is no such thing as microSDHC...

If it is anything like regular SD, that maxed out at 4GB. I would expect the same from Mini & MicroSD as well. I really hope there is technology in it to support the HD spec, which as well all know, the i730 does not support.
I am assuming there is an HD for Micro & Mini. Maybe the Micro & Mini already have the HD technology built into its specs.

Here is the stuff I have read in the past hour while researching microSD (I have never had a device that has needed it)...
1. TransFlash is that same thing as MicroSD (it became MicroSD in 2005)
2. The limitations that SD had aren't suppose to be in microSD, meaning that reading shouldn't crap out when putting in a card of "HC" = "HighCapacity". They built the standard to read above 2GB in size.
3. SDHC cards were basically a new standard and introduced a new instruction set to talk to the memory 4GB and above, and this isn't the case with MicroSD.
4. It was at 3GSM in Barcelona when SanDisk introduced the 4GB microSD card, and said it would be available "sometime later this year".
5. MicroSD is slow, slower read/write speeds than SD, and the newer cards are going to comply with the new SD Speed Class 2 spec, which from what I have read, all devices with microSD slots since the name was changed has been using. Only transFlash slots were SD Speed Calls 1.
So this means we shouldn't have any issues with higher speed card (of the class 2 variety), nor should we have issues with higher capacity cards. But of course, only time will tell, and once we actually get the phone in our hands, AND they actually produce 4GB cards, then we will know, until then, it's not something to worry about.
If we had the device, 2GB is out limit so far until "sometime later this year".

Well, that stinks. My current card has 3 uses:
1) All maps of the USA and Canada for my Garmin
2) Any apps that I feel are not critical to keep in main memory/SafeStore
3) My mp3s of course.
I guess it will be time to cut back on the maps I keep and the music I have loaded.
I wonder if there will be a SafeStore on the i760?

I was thinking about this. Is there any WM6 Professional device on the market yet (within all cellular providers...Cingular, Sprint, etc.)? If not, wouldn't that make Microsoft an ally in getting this device to market?
