This post on engadgetmobile.com suggests there is hope that the i760 will come to Verizon:

Agreed, bgates.

And here's the source of the EngadgetMobile report:

http://www.gearlog.com/2006/12/samsu...lar_sprint.php

Something's definitely breaking here.

Still, nothing from the FCC type acceptance database. Troubling...

Well, the CES is less than a month away, so I'm sure we'll learn a lot more then. None of the form factors being rolled out in today's market excite me very much. Assuming the i760 is a bit thinner than the i730, loses the external antenna and works out the i730 software glitches, this would be a perfect replacement for the i730.

Since Vista comes out in January, and CES is in January, and Crossbow OS is supposed to work smoothly with Office 2007 and Exchange Server 2007, anyone think that there will be some new devices shown there with Crossbow OS? Seems like getting a new phone in December might be a bad idea!

More and more info keeps popping up about this thing. It definitely feels like we are getting close. Personally I think it would be the most logical choice for this phone to release on VZW. All the current I730 users make a perfect target market. I know i have been waiting for something bigger and better to come out but nothing has ever really wowed me more than my Sammy. I guess time will tell but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for VZW!

I will pee myself if the i760 comes out on Verizon and has Crossbow.

It looks like I'll have to hold off on that 18-200mm Nikkor that I wanted.

You met a man in the Verizon store with a i760 and all you have to say is there was no camera? There must be more to the story!

Yes please---we must have more than that. What did it look like, what was it running, why did he have it--was he a VzW employee, a FUT (friendly user tester), was there something where the camera should be, etc....

Did you take a pic of it? Did it have a VzW logo? We need to confirm it's existence with VzW....

No pictures because my 730 lacks the camera (I know bad joke). Looks just like the sprint variant of the 830 down to the dark blue trim where ours is black. The back was perfectly flat, not even the bump we have for the camera module. With these exceptions, it looked just like a i730. He got it from his cousin that works for Verizon in Colorado. He was in Atlanta visiting and having problems doing the *228 roaming update (the reason he was in the store). I could not get much more out of him since he wanted to bolt and get back to his family in his truck.

He liked his i730 more due to his preferance for PC Windows 2003 over WM5. Otherwise he likes the phone.

You now know all I do.

Sounds like you're describing a Samsung SCH-i830

He interupted me when I asked the sales clerk if she had any news on the i760 and said, "here is the prototype I got from my cousin"

Isn't the i830 black as well?

Perhaps it was a revised I730 with wm 5 from the factory. The I760 looks quite a bit different from the pics - much thinner. me2u: look at the link in the first post & see if that looks anything like what you saw.

The pics from Gizmodo are the GSM version, according to the text. I wonder if the CDMA version has been altered for VzW. (ala Moto Q vs. Blackjack) That will stink if the CDMA i760 doesn't have the 2 cameras......

I hope they offer a camera and cameraless version.

Think of the people who have jobs where their phones CAN'T have cameras, like at a place like GE, or even in schools.

The Q and the Blackjack are two different phones from two different manufacturers. A more apt analogy would be the GSM Treo vs. the CDMA, which look virtually identical. I think if they were going to change the form factor, they wouldn't use the same name.

slimmer, lighter phone with some software tweaks...that's all cute. i could even learn to live without the SD. but the only thing that would make me switch from the damn-near perfect i730 is vastly improved battery life and access to the new higher-speed network if the i730 can't access it.
