Now that was pretty cool. How do you guys find these things?
It was the first time I had been to that site with this computer. When I went back to it, nothing. Figured it must be a cookie. Speaking of, I'll have one...and a glass of milk.... a glass of "spoiled, verizon wireless, oh your Q sucks? don't worry, we'll have new phones soon, deal with it", milk.
I don't know why I did it. Maybe I'm just a massochist. I went to the Verizon corporate store today in Chattanooga. Two things were instantly confirmed:
1) They are certainly not hurting for business. That placed was PACKED. Not a parking spot empty. I looked around... just as we had thought... just moms and dads and teens picking up regular phones. That's definately where the money is for them and
2) They are completely clueless about the i760. I talked with the sales chick at the front and asked her about the i760. She looked confused. I told her it was the new Samsung PDA. She said she would look it up. Walked over, looked for a bit and said there wasn't anything in the system about it. Clueless person #1. Next I went to the Verizon dealer inside Hamilton Place Mall. WOW. Now THAT was a pathetic store. Only a few phones on display, and by far the dumbest salesperson yet. Ask him about the i760. He said "huh?" I said the Samsung i760, the new PDA phone. "Uh, we don't have that." REALLY? Gosh I didn't know that. When is it coming out. "Uh, don't know." Wow... the thoughts that must have been through the owner's head when he hired this whiz kid.
Anyway, it's not comin' out for a while. Even the chick at the corporate store said "Check the website. They know before we do."
For the most part retail stores will find out about this release last. When it is released, some one on here will get it through their B2B rep. Bill, you have to realize it's not the salesperson's fault they haven't been trained blame it on corporate verizon.
The Chattanooga store is still without the dummy phone per a couple of contacts there. I was there today as well trying to talk yet another of my users to wait for the 760. He like 7 others in the past 2 weeks have moved to the Crackberry. I did however hear from my rep today who said she may have some info for me tomorrow. I will advise if pertinent.
Mark, based on the conversations I had the past few days with my rep, I think you're absolutely right in that the i760 will first be available on the West Coast with an East Coast release within a week or so after the West Coast release. Now, why VZW would release on one side of the country and not the other baffles me. The only thing I can think of is some issue with distribution centers.
Verizon: "No, we don't have regional differences in phone availability or pricing. What would give you that idea?"
Me: "Um..."
for what it's worth ... I was on the phone with tech support today ... level 3 I think ... she was pretty sharp, anyway ... I couldn't get the Q9 to log on to the web ... anyway ... while I had her there I asked about forcing the phone to only do evdo ... she looked it up and said that it couldn't do it ... then she said "We have a new pda phone comming out SOON that will, we've just started training on it. It's the I760". Without gasping I asked "any idea when it will be released?" ... She said "No, "they" are being really quiet about that but it has to be soon for us to begin training." ... again ... for what it's worth

I too went to the VZW site and called CS, no phones yet. The CSR directed me to the test site: www.verizonwireless.com/next and stated that this is the place to get the most current info on release dates, yada, yada, yada, and the count down was over.
No signs of the i760, but the mystery phones were "unmasked."
Big suprise there.
I read your comments about Verizon's new LG Voyager. You are correct in your speculation that it will not kill the iPhone.
You are also correct that it will only attract current customers who wish to stay with VZW. I personally will be leaving VZW as soon as the HTC TyTN II is released by AT&T Wireless. Verizon is taking entirely too long to release full-featured Pocket PC devices, the only devices that can truly kill the iPhone. In your next interview, you might want to mention that VZW customers have been waiting over two years for a replacement for Verizon's Samsung i730. The company has been holding up the release of the Samsung i760, though about 50 customers were able to order one because of a mix-up. They have released other Windows Mobile phones, but none that can truly be seen as an upgrade to the i730. You can see websites across the Internet filled with angry VZW users, watching the company release Chocolates, Blackberries, LG phones, but no new Windows Mobile 6 phones. No phone, but a Windows Mobile phone will be an iPhone killer.
Ummm - anyone know why my original post was deleted without explanation? I though it was relevant, on topic, and important for all of us. I've been a reader here since way before the i730 was out, and I only contricute when I have something important to say. I'd really like an explanation for this...

that's why i edited my post and put your link in, because i saw that it disappeared. of course your post was on topic. the release of any new phone by VZW impacts the potential release of the i760.
by the way, i also e-mailed the reporter in the story and told her about the i760/VZW debacle.
Okay, so is it good news or bad news that Verizon's stupid countdown was just a countdown to an announcement that these new phones would be coming out soon, not even an actual release? I mean seriously - they count down for several days with this teaser, then at the end of the countdown the best they can do is "Sign up to be notified when these phones are available"?!
Anyway, maybe this at least knocks out all the theories that the i760 can't be released yet because it's too close to these others.
<edit>
Oh and it's even worse - while their /next webpage doesn't say a thing - their press release says "All of the phones will be in stores before Thanksgiving."

I disagree; I think the Voyager will be much more of an iPhone killer than an WM6 phone. The iPhone and the Voyager etc. appeal to the common people who want cool phones. the i760 appeals to more of the hardcore user who may or may not have business uses for the phone, but don't really care about coolest and newest.
I tried a 6700 for a few months and hated it; got the Q when it came out and have been very happy with it. I had decided some time ago that the i760 would be my next phone; but I'm in a real bind come Monday if the sucker isn't out, as my Q is on ebay right now. Guess I better dig around for an old phone/charger to use for a few weeks.
Relevent to that; if I DO go to an old phone for a few weeks/months before the i760 comes out, and I cancel my unlimited data plan....how long has to go by before I can use the Advanced Device discount...or does that not piggyback with the NE2 discount?

i tell you. they're trying - and failing - to imitate Apple's build-up of anticipation for the iPhone. there is no one waiting for any of these phones, maybe except for the Blackberry or the Juke for that 12-year-old getting their first phone.
Ok, this thread isn't for discussion of other devices, the new release of the 4 that just came out, blackberry's, or iPhones. This is to discuss the i760 and it's release. There are threads already started to do comparisons, please keep this on topic.

the voyager isn't killing anything. the iPhone has a full-featured OS that allows for a lot of development potential (even if Apple isn't currently using all of it). the voyager will never evolve because it almost certainly will not be updated the way the iPhone will be - so basically if the Voyager does have some cool feature(s) the iPhone doesn't have, Apple can just steal them and include them in the next iPhone update. WM is the only phone OS that can match that potenial for continued development. VZW still doesn't get it.
I've been over in HOFO for years and since I learned of the i760, found this forum. Seems to be a lot more info regarding it, here. Anyway, I know that most VZW reps have been tight-lipped, if not in the dark about the phone. Some have listed multiple reasons for the delay, etc... One of those reasons was that it was taking awhile to train the tech reps to service it. I can understand that as I'm sure they all know the current horrible menu system and there is probably a learning curve w/the new Venus and Voyager (touch Screen) phones. Maybe the focus has been around supporting them and it pushed the i760 to the backburner?
