It's Windows Mobile Professional, due to the touchscreen.
That is all the information I could get from him, as he was very vague about much of it, mostly because of NDA's. He told me everything he could. He has never been able to narrow down release dates, but generally speaking he's pretty good about the month, but he said the release for the i760 is still up in the air. They have a few things they need to get worked out, but he said they are eager to release it.
As far as the SGH-i760, the GSM ONLY portrait slider (flooty333), it's been brought up every couple of pages in this discussion. It's a Europe/Asia only release, we won't see it in the US, and it's a tri-band GSM device, no it's even missing the US bands of GSM. Short answer, it's not coming to the US.

You will also see "Windows Mobile Classic" which is for old devices without a phone.
So general rule is this:
Pocket PC (touchscreen) = Windows Mobile Classic Pocket PC with Phone (touchscreen) = Windows Mobile Professional
Smartphone (no touchscreen) = Windows Mobile Standard

Here is some more information I "found out" and am able to share:
1. The small grill like structure on the bottom is not the speakers, it's has a single hole where the Microphone is.
2. Micro-SD
3. Stylus is nice, but could be a bit longer, but still works well.
4. A "bit" longer than the i730 body, but shorter if you count the antenna. "Feels significantly thinner than the i730". About the same width.
5. OS feels faster and more responsive, and overall speed is nice.
6. Speakers are located "between" the two slides, still has decent speaker phone.
7. I asked specifically about T9, but was told "can't answer that", but was told to look at photos of the keypad on the front. I can only assume that on the * key, with the UP arrow, that it should have T9, or another text entry with the keypad for most screens (my assumption)
8. "Battery life is better than my i730" (that was the statement).
9. I was told to go check out a Cingular BlackJack, as the overall size was the same, just a bit thicker.
10. Depending on how you hold the phone, it was fairly easy to bump the talk and end buttons, but more the talk. Said the way he holds the phone made it easy to bump with his thumb. Said he had to rearrange the location of thumb placement and then it wasn't a problem (said he talks mostly with his left ear side).
11. Front button placement and directional pad is excellent for right handed users. Said it balanced the phone perfectly and made movements quick. The directional pad was the "right size"
12. LED is right in the ear piece, so when you are on the phone, others don't see any blinking.
13. Camera was "decent".
14. Backlight button was located on the top of the phone for quick turn off.
15. Volume controls were nice, felt about the same as the i730, and were in about the same location.
16. Windows Key on the side and shares the button with the voice dial, didn't say what voice dialing software was on it. Said it would have been nice to have the windows button closer to the directional pad.
17. Keypad and keyboard keys were "nice" and felt good when typing.
18. He couldn't/wouldn't go in to much detail about the OS and what was on it (program wise), but that Verizon was getting their GetItNow stuff working on Windows Mobile so you could make over-the-air purchases (didn't say whether it was just Verizon apps, or a tie in to some other online store).
19. Voice Record button is in the same place as the Voice Signal button was on the i730, so it's easier NOT to press it, and it's recessed just like the other side keys.
20. Locking is all software based, works very well under WM6.
21. Release date. He said Verizon was trying to get it out first before other WM6 devices hit the market, but if others came out, then they might hold off a bit for more testing. He said they wanted it out by May, which could be earlier, or if something weird happens, could be later (typical Verizon answer...).
That's about all I got for now, and hopefully I didn't overstep what he told me by repeating it, but that's what I got, which isn't much, but at least it sums it up in one post...
Man, am I really looking forward to my birthday now!
Was thinking about buying my wife a RAZR this weekend to replace her Moto E815, but now I'm thinking she's going to have to wait awhile. My only disappointments so far about the i760 are the microSD and the 1.3 megapixel camera.
Michael, thank you for the update and please thank Ethan for me!

He said that the speakers are on the back of the top slide, which you can see in many of the photos when you see the slide open from the back.
No information on REV. A, whether it has the correct chip or not. Pretty much every question I asked was responded with "Can't answer that, let me finish telling you what I can."
So basically everything above is what I know...

Two questions:
1) What exactly is meant by this statement:
6. Speakers are located "between" the two slides, still has decent speaker phone.
So where are the speakers?
2) Is EvDO Rev A confirmed for the SCH-i760 (either natively or as a wake-up call to the chipset)?

Why could the lack of WIFI be a deal breaker? if ou have EVDO whats the big deal? The EVDO is generally better than public WIFI anyway
If WIFI is present, i just use my laptop. (It's smaller than my I730,... just kidding). I have used my WIFI occasionally at best, just because it was there.
Traditionally, if we'd expect this device on the street by the end of May, we'd want to see FCC approval by, say, the "Ides of March."
Of course, Sammy could always take a risk and build for inventory before submitting for approval, but why chance it?
Perhaps a pre-FCC bottleneck is...our friend "Lou." This device may be his first shot at a WM6 handset and his group will surely beat it up. Then there's (hopefully) Rev A, another testing challenge...
BAM, I am wondering about the FCC... Many photos of the device at CES had no battery in the back, and did have a FCC ID printed on the label. I am wondering if they already somehow have approval, but it's not in the system.
You can check out some of the CES photos and see the FCC ID on the label, and I thought that was assigned directly from the FCC, not something the manufacturer provided...

For those playing at home, here, once again, is the link to the FCC filings search page.
Easiest way to search is to enter Samsung for "Applicant Name" and fill in a short "Grant Date Range" interval. No other details need be entered.

First post on this forum (I've been following it for a pretty long time now) and I have a quick question about the FCC:
I've seen references in more than a few places to non-disclosure agreements, and have even stumbled onto some in the form of confidentiality requests from manufacturers to the FCC while looking for FCC approvals. With this in mind, is there any way that the i760 might have already been approved, but the FCC is bound to keeping the specs/pics/product name out of the public forum until the NDA expires?

because Im a cheap bastard without a data plan, and there's wifi at home and at work which is 95% of my time. I also frequently transfer files from my phone to my computer or my modded xbox over wifi. Try doing that with EVDO. I also can control my home audio mp3 player over wifi through the webserver on my LAN.

Wifi is great when travelling.
Outside of mainland USA Verizon is no where to be found, especially for data.
Wifi is like a universal ticket for data, no matter where you're travelling... Far East, Caribean, Europe, etc
Just last month we were vacationing in the bahamas with our friends, and non of the US carriers have data roaming agreements there.
All of their blackberrys were useless. The hotel had free wifi and i was set!
The same when i travel overseas.
Cant live without it.
Flip phone Pocket PC?!! Where? Where? When that comes out, I will drop everything, cancel early, pay the ETF, etc.
When I first saw the Libra, I was like, "YEAH!" But then I found out it is not Pocket PC. Then I also saw a supposed Verizon version. "UGLY!" i760? Only a dream for me now as I've left Verizon....
