Thanks for the report from "Samsung Experience." No surprise that the i760 doesn't yet live there. Did the staff even know it existed?
--BAM
The staff hadn't heard of the phone. In fact, nobody in there knows much about the cell phone technology. There is very little sizzle in the store - at least in the mobile technology section. They have a Wimax phone there, but it's just an i730 with a numeric keypad (no qwerty) with Windows Mobile 2003 on it. Otherwise, there's nothing interesting to report.
Interesting stuff, the way the write seems to be spinning things is that the NDA they are under expires or expired just recently. If this is true, dare I say we might be getting it soon? I would think an NDA would be upheld till close to launch most of the time.
I personally hope its not out yet...I'm not up for my NE2 yet..

Waiting Waiting Waiting> this whole Verizon waiting to update there smartphones once a year is so tiring. I too have passed my NE2 date in Dec. And now I'm just waiting for a damn decent phone to come out. I wonder if they ever wonder or worry about how many customers they loose because they don't have a line of phones that are comparible to Cingular. I mean if the recent article in the NYT is true, it costs something like $400 when they loose a customer. It's bad enough they don't allow the tethering option with WIFI, but the whole approach in marketing and sales of there devices is crazy.
Where are the speakers on this device?
I see something wen you slide the keyboard out that looks like a speaker but how could that give stereo?
Check out some of the other photos. I think the speakers are on the bottom of the device around the dock connector. Check out Post #368 in this thread. I think that might be the speaker there...

What device would you tether to that doesn't have wifi/internet?
I can't wait for this phone to be released! My 730 is killing me right now and I don't want another. I was almost ready to jump ship to something else but this is worth waiting for! (sorry, havent read all 30 pages of the thread either.)
If you don't want to wait and are thinking of getting a competing phone at Cingular because of its ads touting its network, just ran across this class action suit.
I checked J.D. Powers. Didn't see a specific rating for dropped calls, but for call quality, Cingular was never above a 2 out of 5 rating in any geographic region. Verizon had a 4 or 5 out of 5 in all areas.
Believe you're correct about speaker placement on the SCH-i760. Samsung's recently been using an attractive, perforated speaker grille design on certain handsets. For example, you'll notice it on the top deck of the SGH-i760, beneath the nav pad and call buttons, in the link below (3rd pic). Definitely a speaker grille there.
With the SCH-i760's grille placement at the end of the deck (post #368 above), it may be that the drivers are mounted to fire up and then ducted/ported to the grilles. That's an awfully shallow spot on the end of the SCH-760 for direct-firing speakers--they'd have to be <1/4" diam to mount that way...
In any case, PPC sound reproduction has a looong way to go. And calling it "stereo" is a cruel joke.
Predict we'll soon see someone like Nokia or LG--perhaps even HTC--take a lesson from the auto biz and start rolling out higher-end devices with..."Sound by Bose." Oh yes, this will sell.

KBAM, you may have missed it in the white papers, because it was fine print, but they said if you want stereo to work on the i760, all you need to do is switch the location of the phone from one ear to another really quick..duhhh.
Where are the speakers on this device?
I see something wen you slide the keyboard out that looks like a speaker but how could that give stereo?
Has anyone stopped to consider how asinine it is to advertise "stereo" on speakers that are 7/8 inch apart center to center? #3||, my ears are six inches apart!
Best they can say is the device is capable of stereo through external speakers/headphones.

Missed that white paper footnote! And here I was about to activate a second unit for "surround sound"...
Meanwhile, folks, here are some stats that suggest hardware-makers will now be putting a ton of effort into advanced devices--where profit margins lie.
From a recent Wall Street Journal piece, we seem to have...global market saturation:
By year-end '07--
1) The world's population will be 6.5B
--1.0B of the total will be children under age 10
--3.0B of the total live on <$2 a day, and most lack electricity (Note: MOT's Zander demoed a bicycle/charger at CES!)
2) 3.0B mobile phones will be in service (probably up to 90% GSM)
