I also heard from Ethan, since he was actually interrupted during his meetings about "the flood of calls". Very nice guys, very nice. Love that we can rattle Verizon's cage...
Looks like this is the case out here as well. My rep could see the SKU and it showed available, but showed no stock when he tried to order it. Bummer

Let hope I can get one before the end of the month, or I'll end up getting a Mogul.

Things are insane. I phoned the New York sales office today and when I inquired about "a new phone," they were quick to say, "the i760?" I was shocked that they knew already. They told me that they had received over 600 calls today about the i760.

I then phoned the local Verzion store in NH and spoke with the store manager. He told me that haven't even been trained on it yet and have not yet received anything on the phone.

So, you folks who ordered it yesterday and today, I hope you do get the first shipment. I am sure we all would love to hear your war stories on the features and functions of this new device.

Joel

OK I figured I'd give the NYC area another try. This time the rep that answered chuckled when I said the I760 and preempted me by saying they've been getting a lot of calls on it. When I offered a SKU she said that she had already been given it multiple times but it just wasn't available in the NYC area yet and she had no ETA. Oh well.... have a nice weekend!

SO I tried to sleep after working all night but I was to darn excited that I ordered my i760 this morning. Tell me its not bad when you are woken up every few minutes with the nightmare that your order was canceled.

So I check my email, and poof the tracking number is there and said it as shipped as of 10:59 this morning. WHEW!!!

Sorry for all the bad luck if Verizon has really stopped taking orders for the phone. All I can say is that it took me several different sales reps to find one that would actually place the order.

For what it is worth, my first sales rep stated that the phone is technically only available for B2B or Corporate customers, and that he imagined the phone would be out to the public in a week or so. Earlier when I posted I stated I called *611 and remember I actually called the BIZ number. I was then transfered to a sale rep through this approach.

Keeping my fingers crossed right now, hoping my FedEX guy doesn't get ambushed trying to deliver the phone tomorrow.

I got stoned at the gate. Supposedly ordered this morning but when i called back to "follow up" my order had disappeared.

Now I haven't really abused Verizon recently but this really pisses me off.

Well, you might want to read what my VZW B2B rep says...

"They just sent a communication out to our whole company stating that the i760 is not available and not to order it. They have locked the sku now too it looks like. The main reason was because it was not available and the people who ordered it might get chargeback's since the correct pricing was not in the system. You were better off not ordering now actually. It might not have been a pleasant experience. The rumor is that it will be out on the 25th or so."

Interesting...good luck getting chargeback's against customers. I'm still pissed I didn't get the phone today!!!

So I tried calling a sales rep and said I wanted to buy the i760 and was told rather quickly that they aren't allowed to sell the phone and that it was a mistake that others were able to order it early. I asked him when he would be allowed to sell it and he said it would be available for ordering on the 24th.

Congratulation to those who were able to benefit from the "mistake". I guess I'll have to wait until the 24th for my phone.

i took a chargeback to mean that vzw will refund the money to your credit card, not that you will be charged more

Well, two very good things have come out of this:
1. Verizon can no longer play dumb and say this phone doesn't exist, and apparently even had to send out a company-wide message "announcing" the product.
2. They can't keep delaying it, either - as the posts above show, it looks like they're willing to pony up a date of the 25th for it now.

That's all probably especially good for VZW, since the Tilt is looking like it's going to ship before the end of the month as well (accordiong to the oft-correct Boy Genius) for $350 w/2-year plan. They alreadly lost a lot of high-end personal accounts to AT&T with the iPhone, if AT&T gets a high-end business phone out as well with no competition, it can't be a good thing.

Generally when a company refers to chargebacks it is fear of customers doing a chargeback to them (aka disputing a charge). It sounds to me as though they may make the SRP lower maybe to be more competitive with Apple. This is, of course, purely speculation

Not just Apple, Gizmodo is reporting that the much more advanced Tilt will be the same $399 + $50 rebate.

That Ebay auction is using Crafty's pictures. Are you parting with it so quickly (for the right price? or did someone else simply rip off your pictures?

What I think is basically happening is that marketing has to find a competitive price point now. It may very well retail at $399.99-$419.99 w/o contract.

The $519.99 price point was the general price point and systems kept it that way matching the SKU. VZW didn't suspect the mighty eye of PDAPH.com to invade and pilage so soon! (laughs). Not they have frozen the SKU and emptied out the inventory (systems wise). So they can look at what price they are going to sale it at (hence the charge backs). You early adopters will be plenty pissed if they release on the 24th or 25th with a retail w/o contract for $399.99 and last I checked Steve Jobs doesn't run VZW so kiss that $200 credit goodbye.

So with all my discounts and I haven't had a data plan I could walk away with this phone from $99.99 - $149.00. Glorious.

I ordered through my Los Angeles rep last night. Got my tracking number from biz sales and it shipped today. It is still showing in the system as available with inventory in stock for the tri-state area around southern California. Has anyone had any luck from these locales?

I tried posting this earlier, but the site has been up and down. I have talked to three different Verizon people today. One my "new" rep, two Ethan, and three someone Ethan had call me to discuss something about the i760 release.

The flood of calls to Verizon shocked them, and they actually couldn't figure out why the influx of calls were happening without a release. Needless to say someone screwed up, and posted inventory on the phone, this should not have been done. It should have been posted without inventory, and without pricing.

Those who have ordered it and received a tracking number, congrats you have it, although the pricing might not be correct and you might be charged more, or get something back, he would not tell me the pricing.

For those that ordered it today before 11 AM, it MIGHT, and I repeat MIGHT actually go through. If you receive a tracking number between 11 PM tonight and tomorrow morning, it went through and you should have it. If you don't get anything, it means they canceled the order, and you will have to wait, and reorder it later, and you might have also screwed up your account in the process, depending on what happens. So if no tracking number, than it's about a 99% certainty that you will NOT get it for another 10 days, and you will probably have to call back in.

The release was for the 24 or 25 of September, which is 30 days after the Q9 release, and when they planned the marketing push. It is still set for that date, but they "could" move it because of these issues, earlier or later. (this is what was told to me). Ethan said that he doubts it will change any, and still should be 24th or 25th.

For those living in IA,IL,IN,KS,KY,MI,MN,MO,ND,NE,OH,PA,SD,WI,WV. I might be able to put you in touch with my new business rep to get the phone ordered. They work on commission and I am sure she wouldn't mind helping you if she can. When the date gets here I will ask how she wants to proceed, either via direct, or having me collect a list of names. I will ask if she wants me to post her information for others to contact her directly. But this won't be until the release. ( DO NOT CONTACT ME ABOUT THIS YET! )

SO DO NOT CALL VERIZON, you will get the same answer. They have pulled all sales until the release, and if you got one, pat yourself on the back, I didn't get one...
