There are so many reasons now that make me want the i760 over other "new" devices. The main reason now is WM6. I am sure the 6800 will get WM6 eventually, but we know how long it takes Verizon to releasing an update for the OS, and having the newest latest and greatest will be nice from the start.
1. The main feature I want in WM6 is the Rich/HTML e-mail. It will support reading HTML/Rich Text e-mails, which I really do need.
2. Call History. You can now see the call history within each contact. Making it much easier to run through when/if you called someone.
3. Better support for Word, Excel and other office apps. It seems that MS updated this as well, and that if you open a Word or Excel app, it won't destroy some of the advanced functions like it does now.
4. Better Outlook support, the ability to interact with Follow-up flags, changing Out Of Office settings right on the phone, FAR BETTER calendar views.
5. Support for AJAX. This is built in to Pocket IE.
6. .NET Compact Frameword built in to ROM. There is also discussion about the updates for .NET and WM6 being downloaded and then written to ROM, saving space on the device.
7. Better Device Lock. This is both on an individual level and on the administration side.
8. Built in Storage Card Encryption and Device Wipe. This is built in, allowing you to encrypt the card to only work on the device, and to remotely wipe everything.
These are things that have me most interested, and having a device with it from the start will be nice. Sure if the i760 isn't the best device, it still has the newest updated OS, making it better, and if I need to replace it in a year or so, then so be it, as long as something better comes along.
If something better would have come along than the i730, I would have already had it, and wouldn't still be using the i730, but nothing has. It's only a slight upgrade to the i760, but to me, the features are worthwhile for me to upgrade. I am a person who never had a phone longer than 1 year, and changing devices 9-12 months in is no problem, even if it costs a little to get something better, more fun, and thinner/smaller.
I for one am wanting WM6 more than the i760, but since I get a new device, it will work out...
I definitely like the idea of HTML e-mail and built-in .NET support. As long as the i760 ability to receive telephone signals is as good as the i730's and as long as the battery life is at least as good, I'll probably pick up an i760 when released. I'm definitely getting itchy for a new device....

I agree that the i760 doesn't look like the best follow up to the i730, but who would have thought that I would have had the i730 for two years.
And there, McDuff, lies the rub. If that the best they can do in two years they most certainly haven't heard of Moor's law (isn't he the guy who said "shaken, not stirred"?.
Da buggah ought to be at least twice as good as the ix30, but instead it's about the same in an arguably prettier package.

I haven't yet seen an i760 screen show that shows fields for (i) missed calls or (ii) # of voicemails on the home screen. I will be deeply disturbed if WM6.0doesn't include this. I'll also be disturbed if WM6.0 excludes this feature and Samsung doesn't add it (like Palm did on the 700w), but I don't expect Samsung to be that proactive. I don't want to be forced to install PhoneAlarm on my phone just to get 2 VERY basic features.
I'm wondering if it will include something as basic as ringing through the wired headset. My 7135 and I believe all the phone I had before that would do it. It doesn't make much sense to be listening to music with the headphones on so as not to bother anyone, and then the phone rings out of the main speakers in the office.
Reading through this thread every day, I feel a bit like Tevye in fiddler on the roof when he was arbitrating between two guy that were arguing. I find my self going back and forth agreeing with both sides of the argument. This is going to be a hard decision on whether or not to upgrade from the 730 to the 760. It seems that both sides of the camp have merits and it will just depend on what mood I am in when the 760 comes out if I get it or not. Of course, the fact that my screen has scratches from all the games of solitaire I have played may be a factor in the decision as well.
I love your reference! but that kind of sums up the argument... the difference is so close that it seems i760 is just not that big of an upgrade for many of us to feel much of a gain from switching phones... in some features its a down grade (wifi/no wifi don't know yet, slower processor, may need to invest in new memory cards!,... etc...) I'll wait and see.. "...these aren't the Droids your looking for, move along..."

Of all of the enhanced "features" this is probably the compelling one. I'm so tired of not being able to read my HTML email, and having to log on to webmail I could spit. That was one of the things that drew me to the Nokia N800, but it has a host of other issues.
I'm thinking that WM6 is going to force VZW to give up a few bytes, and send email in RTF/HTML format, then some third party can render them in WM5/2003 (WebIS mail perhaps?)
All that being said, that certainly doesn't constitute an extraordinary improvement … barely evolutionary I’d say. Stirred, not shaken?

It has 802.11g wifi, this is confirmed, and you can see it in the screen shots of the device.
Personally for WM6, for a thinner, lighter device, it's worth the upgrade to me.
Sure buying new memory cards, and new accessories is going to be a deal breaker for some, but since Samsung seems to be keeping the same connector on the bottom, it won't be as many as I would think.
Even though this is a more lateral upgrade, it's still does have it's advantages and disadvantages, but from what I have been reading about WM6, it's going to be a worthwhile upgrade for many of us.

I do all the time. It's called a Bluetooth headset.
He's talking about easily bumping the talk/end buttons when a call comes in. Even with it locked, it's easy to bump in a tight fitting case, even when using a bluetooth headset. I have two cases that bump all the time, just from simple movement, and I had to quit using them because I would answer calls and not even hear it ring, just because it bumped the talk button.

Ditto. The fact that the talk & end buttons don't stay locked when a call comes in makes using virtually any soft case impossible. Accidental answering has lead to quite a few rather embarrassing (but quite hilarious) experiences.

Ptoowey! I speet on dees new phone from Samsung! We'll actually if they'll trade my spit for it, I believe I'll take it then..but then again my spit isn't in high demand on the market right now. Oh well.

We are all going to have to buy new memory cards. I dont use film in my cameras anymore. I dont use flopy dives in my PC anymore. This is progress. Imbrase it......
