I have been following this and other i760 threads since June or so and it finally sounds like it might get released (or not...) I have a few questions:
1) What will the release be like and how will we know we can order one online and in a store? Is this the best place to look for the announcement?
2) I recall discussions about doing something special for the first power-on in earlier phones so as to prevent unnecessary apps from getting installed. Will there be advice about this for the i760 from the first buyers?
3) There seem to be a few i760s almost in the wild (VZW employees, testers, etc). Have there been any reviews or other comments based on actual experience as to quality, battery life, etc?
I'd like to thank all the regular posters for their patience and information. 'Sorry if this is the wrong thread.
tnx,
pp
Hey,
1. You can check the VZW website every day, or check this forum. When the i760 is released someone will, of course, post it.
Well, my i730 will no longer accept an SD card. It is about 2 1/2 years old and losing more and more functionality each day. It has refused to sync for months now and seems to be on its last leg. I sure hope the i760 is released soon or I'm going to be forced to buy something to hold me over.
Or be forced to perform a hard reset which may fix all your problems.

1 - Many people on this fourm will be looking for signs that the phone will be released. The information will get more consistent as the date approaches. The first time someone is able to place an order it will be listed on this site and how they were able to place their order.
2 - Power users will post tips and tricks if you missed any you will most likely be able to hard reset your phone and restore it to its original state and set it up based mrailings detailed instructions at a later time.
3 - It sounds like must testers where under NDA but Eqqus list some very good info and most of it has been summarized in a FAQ thread.
I have been checking this thread a dozen times a day and will probably have to enter a 12 Step Program after release I've read the FAQ and pre-release manual. It is quite exciting.
My question about actual use is related to the fact that we all are looking to WM6 on a new device to provide a more stable platform. I wanted to see if any pre-users had actual experience with MTBF (where failure is hanging, having to reset hard or soft, etc.)
Between waiting for this phone and the new DirecTV HD channels, I am going to lose my mind. My i730 is also on its last leg and I need to replace it. The HD thing with DirecTV is just as annoying.
I have a friend who works in IT at Verizon and he doesnt seem to know what is up either. But he doesnt pay attention to anything other than Blackberry devices anyway. So whatever. He said he would let me know as soon as he heard something but I am not holding my breath.
I used to be just like you PasseParout...just remember, every day longer the wait is, every day sooner there will be a better option (which, considering what you want, there already is).
I honestly can't understand anyone waiting for the i760 unless they are tied to Verizon. There are comparable networks, with better rate plans, and better phones. Best-o-luck all.

After 271 pages and over 5,000 posts, this is the best ever! It made me laugh out loud and I'm still giggling, coz I feel the same way. Every day I say I am not going to check today - it's not coming out until the end of the month anyway, and then I'm lured back somehow.
Just my luck by the time it is released, I will be in Brazil for up to 5 months (leaving on the 23rd Sept.) so I will miss all the excitement and will have to stay glued to the forum to see how you are all liking it and what all the hacks will be. By the time I get back in February hopefully you will have all the kinks out and Verizon will still honor my N2 which was available to me in July. I guess I won't be starting the 12 step program for a while. In the meantime I'm sure I'll be checking in here every day before I leave - hope springs eternal for a pre-Sept 23rd release.

I don't know how different the Mogul is from the VZW6800 that I have been testing, but it kinda bothers me. Hear me out and you will see why I am pretty excited, and have some high hopes from the i760.
I'm coming from a Treo 700W, then 700wx. If you hang out in Treo forums, you know it is no perfect. But after just one day with the 6800, I've discovered it's pretty sweet how they have it configured.
On the 700wx, you can be sending and email, or txt message, or making a call in about 3 seconds. All with just my thumb. Type a few chars of the name, it pops up in the home screen, hold the middle button down over the contact and a little pop up window comes up and i select, email, call or txt. Bam, that's it.
With this 6800, I can't find a super fast way to do it.. I don't think there is. I never really realized how super sweet the Treo had it setup until I stopped using it.
I'm hoping with the front keypad, the i760 will allow me to kick off things like calls, txt messages, email, real quick maybe not as fast as the Treo, but pretty quick anyway. Since I support dozens and dozens of these devices, I don't want to move to something that is much harder to do basic things like make a phone call.
Not sure if anybody who has used a i760 can chime in on that or not?
First time poster but I have been reading this thread since May. LOL
I have not seen anyone post this site yet so forgive me if it has been posted. I was searching Samsung's webpage and changed the address and got this. Lots of detain specs that I have not yet seen.
The PDF on the Samsung site says it has a remote control for home electronics which I had the understanding that it did not have an IR port. Maybe it does. It feels like the anouncement is coming any day now if Samsung has their site posted with all this now.

I've got some 3rd-party apps that clean things up a great deal, but I think it is the software and not the hardware that makes it hard to jump around.
(For the Mogul at least, from the Today screen, start typing a name and it will come up in the phone app, where pressing that hard "Call" button, select button, or double clicking calls the contact. Holding the select button or click-and-hold via touchscreen on the name you want and it gives you all the options (call home/work/cell/different emails/text message) hope that helps, but you should check out the Mogul forums for anymore info)

Oh I would have switched long ago but I so married to VZW its not even funny. First of all my employer pays for my service and our carrier company wide is VZW. But that is nothing... my girlfriend, parents, grandmother, ex-wife, son, girlfriends kids, my best friend, and many others are all on VZW. Makes it nice because I dont get a hassle from work about personal minutes used. Plus of course nobody ever really ever goes over their minutes.
Basically for me VZW = til death do us part. But dont tell them that...
It has to be coming out soon. It just has to be... doesnt it? probably not... maybe today??? no... probably tomorrow... nah... 25th for sure... or end of October. March.. I say March for sure.... Wait and see I guess...

Yep, thanks. I know the 6800 is off topic, I posted a quick review over in the i760 vs ppc6800 thread. I personally think that front keypad is gonna be HUGE.. at least for the standard user who i support who doesn't even know there are 3rd party apps, let along how to install them. (And I don't want to support that anyway.)
I've been lurking this site since december, and have been waiting for this phone, checking this site probably 5 times a day for some sort of update.
My father just went into a verizon store in Westchester, NY and called me to see what he needed....i told him to ask the guy for the samsung i760. the salesperson replied "the slider pda?" so he checked his computer and said it will be out the first week of october. I hope he is right!
