Need outside keypad...
I've been using a 700w, then 700wx for over a year now. Because of that, my initial impressions of the vx6800 are not good. The reason is with the Treo's, I could take it out of my pocket, turn on the screen and just type a few letters on the keyboard all one handed and be making a call in no time.
Not having that is killing me. Killing me!!! The Treo may not be the greatest device for us power users, but it's one handed operation out of the box is awesome and I'm hoping the i760 can at least come close to that with the front keypad.

The front keypad is only numeric, so you may be in the same boat if you didn't like the 6800 ...

One guy who seems to be in the know at HOFO (at least has been right in the past and has leaked inside powerpoints, etc . . . may be one of the insiders here as well) has been saying for several weeks now it'll be late-Sept. He now said to expect something the week of the 24th of this month. Seems to jive with the general buzz of late with the phone starting to show up more in Verizon's systems and more employees claiming to have seen it or getting hands-on training with it.
Another poster also posted a screenshot of a table with pricing. Not sure where this originates from, but still interesting. $399-w/2yr; $449-w/1yr ($50 rebate available for both.) $519 retail.

I know, I know. I'm hoping I can start to type numbers and it will filter down my contacts. But yeah, I might be in the same boat.
So, I'm having issues with the data connection on the 6800. (Every time I get a MMS the phone freaks out and won't ever connect.) Working with Verizon B2B data support and, of course they wouldn't say a release date, but he did mention he already had i760 training, so that's a good sign.

Not necissarily. I'm hoping when the slider is closed, the front pad behaves like the one on the PN-820. So it would still do smart contact search and speed dials. In addiotion, the PN-820 has the option to use either ABC regular cell rext input, or to use various T9 options.
One reason I think that might be the case (other than hope and good design) is that the manual specifically states the keypad functions as a number pad when the slider is open. By implication... that could mean it functions like the PN-820 pad when it is closed.
If it proves not to be true out of the box, I'm guessing there may be a third party solution to replicate that functionality.

Malfunction or Marketing??????
Does anyone have any speculation as to whether the delay is because of marketing, or because of phone design problems? As I see it, if the delay was a marketing decision , they can continue manufacturing phones and have a decent inventory built up once they do decide to release it.
If The delay is because of the phone itself, they cannot manufacture the phone on a large scale until the maladies are cleared up. That would mean that the initial release inventory may be small, causing a lot of us to have orders to the backorder category.
Any guesses?

Probably will. I was refering to SMS and emails. I would think speed-dial will work, otherwise why put the numeric keypad there.

Why don't we speculate what this weeks lottery numbers will be? It has the same value...none.

According to last night's fortune cookie, 6-12-14-27-46-48. Good luck!
Just to say on topic, Sept 25th is my guess. Because I am out of town from the 22nd to 29th--although it's all good--I'll be in Maui!

Are you concerned that you will not find a VZW store in Maui? If the device is in stores, why would it not be in Maui?
