The 9/10 was never mentioned as a release date, someone on here just mentioned that date as we should hear something about the device "officially" from Verizon by then, since we heard from Equus that we should hear about the device around the first of September.
9/10 was never a release date from what I have been told. Last time I talked to Ethan he said it was looking to be 30 days after the new Moto Q was released, and possibly a bit longer depending on what was happening in the phone world. This would put the i760 release towards the end of September, at least until the last week in September.
Now as with this device, it can always be pushed to a different date, but they are close to a release at this point, I think they are just determining when the best time to release it will be. This device is meant for business clients, so releasing it on a labor day sale with the back to school stuff isn't always the smartest to do, and the new Q fit in to that much better, since it was geared towards media.
Personally, with no input from Ethan, I think this will make just as much of a bang on the Verizon radar as the i730, which means that it will be released without much advertising in stores, and will be kept on the downlow, which is really a shame, as this is what made the i730 less popular than some of the other PDA devices, when it was a better device with more options.
Ethan still said that it was looking like a late September release, and until I talk to him next, I can't get an update on his thoughts, but as of September 3, he still said it was looking like an end of September release, roughly 30+ days after the new Q.

Have brought up this topic before, but don't recall seeing an answer.
What do we know about native Java and Flash support on the i760?
Are either of these resident on the Sprint HTC PPC-6800/Mogul or expected on the AT&T 8925/Kaiser/Tilt?

P.S. Played with a MOT Q9m. Not bad for what it is, but not for PPC warriors. Way too little screen real estate and not a touchscreen. Best for entry-level/crossover smartphone candidates, students, wives/gfs, etc. Currently, Q9m is arguably VZW's best WM device (aside from the still-available but long-in-the-tooth i830).

I can't claim to have any understanding of VZW's (or anyone else's... perhaps excepting Apple's... they're motivations and strategy are pretty transparent, even to me!) phone marketing tactics or philosophy. But your remarks (especially the ones I've bolded) absolutely bewilder me!
Specifically: What has to happen in the phone world for VZW to release the i760?? Similarly, what could happen that would lead them to delay (cancel?) its release? All sorts of stuff has been happening in the phone world, and I just can't figure out what motivates VZW; most of what they do seems to be based on some ultra-secret master plan/strategy that makes little sense, but that they're determined to follow come hell or high water. It's almost as if they have taken a page from the present Bush administration !
Does anyone have even a glimmer of understanding of what would constitute a 'good time' to release the i760? Why would they not want to give their customers a reasonable choice, especially while other service providers are releasing phones that offer similar, if not better features? I've read the arguments here that churn within the high-end Pocket PC/PDA-phone niche is small potatoes for a company like VZW; so do they actually lose more money by releasing another phone?
And your third remark, that it is likely to be kept on the downlow, is equally confusing, and disheartening, too. Is VZW so vested in crackberries and media phones that they can't allow themselves to pitch a high-end WM device? Is the WM/PDA-phone market so small, unprofitable, whatever, that it's not cost-effective to push a device like either the i760 or its predecessor, the i730?
Verizon's marketing team decides the release, so it's up to them when they thin it will make the most impact on the "world". Releasing a new device like the i760 at the same time as the iPhone wouldn't be smart, and some carriers require that their device has an exclusivity when released, so that plays a role in it.
When Verizon released the i730, it wasn't even in stores. Very few stores had it on display, and even fewer knew about it. I went in to my local store, well the one I go to in the Louisville area, shortly after the i730 and they didn't know anything about it, or that it was released. The guy that I was talking to thought I got something special, since he thought it was going to be released until close to September, when it was released in June/July.
I highly doubt the i760 will be canceled. This wouldn't play along with Verizon strategy, and their past experiences with devices, especially with dummy phones and accessories showing up at stores, plus the fact that they are working on the release. My buddy Ethan isn't directly involved with the phones any longer, but does get e-mails about updates, and does manage some of the people involved with some of the phone side of things. So he hears stuff, and passes on what he can about the i760, since this is the device I want. He has told me many times that it's the marketing side that determines the release date, once they are ready to push it out, for the most sales possible.
What I posted above what some of my opinions. We will have to wait and see what really happens with Verizon and the i760. The most recent PDA phones from them have had marketing behind them, and have been in stores, so the i760 could be that way too, but we will have to wait and see.
I haven't gotten a straight answer on the reasons for delays, and I can't mention some of the stuff Ethan has said (he does tell me things that he says I can't post as it might point more to him). The device is coming, and Verizon DOES want to release it, but it might take them a bit longer to get it out than we want. It will come out when Verizon gets around to releasing it. I HIGHLY doubt that it will be canceled, and I don't think we even need to consider it.

Frankly: I'm terribly confused!

That's what I get for having a 'favorites' link that comes straight to this thread; I haven't looked at the front page for quite a while. I'll continue my diatribe over there.
Well I guess I will hold my breath like I know all of us will be and hope that the i760 is released or at least a release date will be announced tomorrow. If not I will try and slip into a coma and wake up in Dec for the i760 to be released.

I just got off the phone with VZW customer service. Sunday is a great day to call, not all stressed out and not in a hurry to talk to you. Anyway I told him that I was interested in buying the i760 and he said let me bring it up. Then is said it is not there, at which time I told him that it was to be released in Sept (didn't tell him anything else). I told him that the Samsung web site had it up and others had it say that it was going to be released in Sept and that another site has mentioned Sept 10,2007. And since that was tomorrow I wanted to call to make sure that it was going to be released then. He asked to put me on hold to check for more information and I of course said yes, all the while thinking here we go and telling me that he could not find any info on it at all. However to my surprise he said that is was going to be released tomorrow and that I could call back then to order it. He was going to order it for me but he didn't have any way of doing it because it hadn't been released yet. So there you go, if he is right then the i760 phone will be released tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed.

I called VZW and the phone call was not an enjoyable time...
I got some women who was very kind but had no idea what the i760 was and never heard about it in her life... As we all know she checked her system for the phone and nothing came up...
She told me I was out of luck. Said there was nothing more she could do... I requested to speak to her manager and she put me on with her boss a floor manager...
This new huy knew exactly what the device was and have heard people complain about it all the time. I told him I heard Sept. 10th as the possible release date...
He laughed and said it was not possible... Said that it was not in his system and that meant that it would not be out for several weeks...
He then went on to explain to me that after they show the phone in his system it takes several weeks to actually come out... He also said that if I can find the device on a manufacturers website (Samsung.com) with Verizon's logo on it that meant that Verizon was still testing it...
I told him I was not happy and that I really wanted the phone... How did he respond? He tried to see me the PalmTreo 700Wx... Typical Verizon.
I asked if I could write a complaint that he could file to "higher" authorities hoping it might make the most remote difference. He said I could not do that...
I resorted to what I felt was my last option. I told him the iPhone looked better and better everyday and that it would now be cheaper then the i760. He was quiet and could not care less... Again typical Verizon!
Now I look at maybe jumping ship after Apple Expo later this month. When will they learn?

Anybody out there been around since the SmartPhoneSource days? Anybody remember how long the Kyo7135 was in "Testing". And that by the time it was released it really was for the most part out of date, in spite of all its wonderful features! It ended up being released not long before the release of the new Treos... with the new OS's... and faster CPU's... Given the speed with which smartphones obsolesce a six month delay can have a huge impact in how much a phone is adopted... With all the "apparent" delays I hope that doesn't happen to the i760. Just an observation...

Come on people, all this talk about leaving VZW for the iPhone because they are taking so long to release the I760, I mean let's get real. Anybody who has an I730 already knows VZW has a superior solution (machine, software, and broadband speeds) than any concocted between Apple and AT&T. I have always been a function over form person and would never trade in to a lesser solution than I already have out of frustration from a different thing. Talk about biting off your nose to spite your face.
Flame away brothers and sisters, but please take the iPhone/AT&T discussion to another forum. I just want to know when the I760 is coming out and you all are creating waaaaaay too much chaff for us to get through the information quickly.

Here is a detailed acount for you... I am sorry if it is old news to some of you but he needs it...
Sept. 10th is the next rumored release date... NOT LIKELY
Then we have concluded end of Sept. to the start of Oct.
PS Thanks to all of you dedicated power users who are making this forum as interesting as the I730 forum in the heyday. Can't wait to start tweaking the new machine!
As much as I would like to read through this entire thread... I just don't have that kind of time. So I'm not sure if this has been posted yet ('cuz I'm a noob), but I just noticed that Samsung has the i760 on their site now, albeit it's hidden with no direct links to it from the top level Verizon section.
BTW, I notice on the PDF is shows "• Remote Control for home electronics"
as one of the features. Does this mean there is an IR port? And it must also be a strong IR port to provide the distance needed. Cool!
Also,
Just to mention to all. I stopped in the VZW store on Route 22 in Watchung NJ today. I pulled the ole reverse psychology trick. I walked in and went to the counter after browsing their cases. I asked "Do you have any cases or holsters for the Samsung i760?" They looked at me puzzled. And not cause they didnt know what it is, but because they didnt know why I needed a case for that due to their reply: "The i760?" then the reps looked at each other and 3 of them looked at me and said: "You have the i760? But its not out yet." and another rep said "Yeah I'm waiting for that one!" Again they asked "You have the i760?" and I responded yeah, I got it through a friend that works at corporate and he activated it for me. I just need a case for it now." They were puzzled at me having the phone and their reactions showed they did know of the phone and were awaiting it. The one of the reps said "All we have gotten so far are the car charegers for that phone. We are still waiting for the phone and the other accessories".
So there we have it. Its not going to be cancelled and its definitely coming out soon. Thats all I know. And I bet if any of you go to a local VZW store and ask for a case or accessorie for your i760, they will tell you what accessories they do have.
Hi all. Nothing earth shattering to share, however, I wanted to address the potential for the 9/10 release.
Some have posted that they were 'told' by their 'rep' that the stores would get the phones a few days prior to release. Well at the King of Prussia Verizon store (very busy from what i understand) the chowderheadz had never heard of the phone. So there is still the minute possibility of an internet or B2B release on the 10th but it looks like a slim possibility at the stores seeing as though they can't deliver the phones on a Sunday .
Now, they did not have a dummy phone of the i760 but all 4 of the hard working Verizon reps were working diligently to serve customers. Not me of course. I had inquired about a broken 730 car charger and was met with a response that would have made droopy dog proud. Useless!!! Anyway - no info on the 760, blah blah blah, etc, etc, etc.
I did have a period of validation (typically few and far between so please indulge me) when a woman was asking for assistance and was met by another subdued and rude member of the VZW elite looking to upgrade her phone. Man, she laid into him and walked out. Came back in and asked for a manager - at which point she got the deer in headlights stare and told them to take their NE2 and shove it - she was switching companies. Yeah! Thought many on this board would love that - see you're not alone.
One more discounted iPhone for AT&T I guess.
So that's the story of the 4 dummies at the VZW and the on topic concern about a Monday, in-store release date.
Cheers!
Jay
I got the same storyline from the same store: Jay we must have passed each other on Sat AM!!!
Cheers
Mark

Personally, with no input from Ethan, I think this will make just as much of a bang on the Verizon radar as the i730, which means that it will be released without much advertising in stores, and will be kept on the downlow, which is really a shame, as this is what made the i730 less popular than some of the other PDA devices, when it was a better device with more options.
The i730 didn't have a camera, so they couldn't charge for transferring the pictures. They may be why they didn't push it in the consumer ranks.
The i760's camera may endear it to the VZW money grubbing execs.
"Why has VZW taken nearly 27 months (and counting) to succeed the Samsung SCH-i730 (i830) with a powerful, next-generation, Windows Mobile PPC platform?"
"High-productivity subscribers require timely, advanced devices (*at least* one refresh per year). VZW has discouraged many in failing to maintain the mantle of leadership in this segment."
All, The electronics control (as they have included in my Q9m), I would assume to be the same. It is for the bluetooth and can control your Media Center PC or other Bluetooth devices....... Not Irda.
