So, if WM6 comes out in QTR2... do you think the I760 will come out first with WM5 or will we be waiting until some time in April-May-June or later?
I mean.... come on. The device looks like it rocks... and I have to wait here for it for another who know how long? Give me a break!!! (Or a kit-Kat)
I have mine tweaked to the bone, and it runs flawlessly... but a smaller form factor would be so much better.
I origionally thought it may come out on schedule in Feb, but that does not seem the case. I know few think it would possibly come out that early.... but a guy can wish.

This could be bad news for those of us (all of us) hoping for Q1/Q2 i760 release. I find it hard to believe that the first WM6.0 product would come to TMobile, but ....
I'm still holding for 2/16 release date. For a Couple of reasons. #1, It's q1 and it still beats Q2 for TMOBILE. and #2, I will be on a Ski Trip in Aspen and won't be able to order one.
The only thing in common it has with the i730/i760 is that it's a touchscreen device, a slider, it's made by Samsung, and it's a phone. It's a not a Windows Mobile device. It can't be used in the US, it's GSM only, and it doesn't have the US GSM bands.

Am I the only one here that completely and utterly DESPISES the Landscape keyboard idea?
The main reason I even have my I730 and will take it to my grave is that it isnt landscape - potrait keyboard = one hand operation perfection. My device does everything I want it to do now and it just plain works. Other than battery life, I am completely happy with it. It works.
Being a techno geek toy junkie - I want a new device - but, I can not give up potrait keyboard. The first images I saw of the 760 had me frothing at the mouth but the images I am seeing for the Verizon version (let them figure out a way to screw up a wet dream - I know they can do it blind folded) will keep me from a new toy.
Landscape SUCKS. Who wants to juggle a damn device in their hands just to type something?
I think most mobile phone companies would be rushing as fast as they can to get new devices out before the iPhone launches in June...lets hope for the best

I agree. I LOVE my vertical slider. It is so easy to use one handed. I was thrilled when the first images of the i760 came out...then found out it was only for Europe. I sure wish there was at least one vertical slider to choose from...but it looks like we are stuck with either old technology (i730) or horizontal sliders. I highly doubt that any communication with Samsung or HTC would produce any positive changes...unless it was a deluge of emails...which I don't expect will/would happen...ah well, we are at the mercy of "da man."

I hated the idea at first, but am actually coming around to the idea. The number buttons always exposed solves a lot of my gripe with landscape keyboards. I rarely type one handed on my i730, it's just much faster to use both thumbs. I do use the keyboard one handed for other things, such as the start & context menu buttons, but I'm confident that with a little practice I could do this one handed with a landscape keyboard also.
If the new model is small enough, I think we will have to learn a new one-handed maneuver: Slide out the keyboard, rotate the phone and type with the thumb. This assumes our thumbs are long enough.
Maybe one of the aftermarket companies will sell some sort of thumb picks
Except for one this. They put the keypad on the right side, which just stinks. If you are driving, you are probably dialing with your right hand, and to be precise, your right thumb. It would have been a lot easier if the number pad was on the left side.

Yep, real world ergonomics were ignored by the lemming mentality of the designers.
The number keys are a waste of precious potential display area.

It's funny how things work: If the new design incorporates features one likes, then the designers are 'brilliant' and 'responsive'; but they're 'lemmings' if the design doesn't tickle the fancy.
I certainly agree that I would prefer a larger screen over having external number keys (in fact, I prefer to either use my Bluetooth earpiece or the Bluetooth connection in my car for voice dialing most of the time... I hardly ever actually dial a number). But, the fact is that one of the most common user gripes about typical QWERTY phones is that you have to open them to do anything. So, the designers' made a logical change in response to a common gripe.
Bottom line: It's simply impossible to satisfy all the people, all the time!
But, having said that, I'm more excited about this phone than anything else I've seen, and I've been waiting for an acceptable phone for years! The Treos haven't been sophisticated enough or good enough phones, so they were out. And Blackberry devices had been lousy phones (though they're better nowadays). I almost went for the XV6700, but didn't like its bulk or the stub antenna. And though the Q answered my bulk and antenna gripes and is a pretty decent phone, the keyboard is simply too small for my very large hands, and the screen is smaller than I like. The SCH-i730 also answered most of my wants/needs, except for the bulk and antenna. But the SCH-i760 appears to address nearly all of my requirements, as well as most of my dislikes, though we'll have to wait and see what the phone's going to really be like! Hopefully, we won't have to wait too much longer, eh?
My biggest fear is that VZW is going to cripple this phone, as they have so often done in the past. *sigh*

The landscape form factor is one of the things I really like about my Treo 700W ...without it one-handed typing is pretty much impossible! I really want the larger screen (and WM6) on the i760 though. Oh well...right now, I use one-handed typing most while driving in my car.... so the i760 might actually make the roads safer.

Treo screens aren't landscape or portrait - they're square.
This does bring up something that I hadn't really thought of through. With all those exposed buttons on the front of the 760, how much smaller will the screen actually be than the 730? I already have to reach for my reading glasses to read my 730. There comes a point when you can only squeeze so much on a small screen and it still be useful. I also use my 730 for a gps display with a bluetooth gps unit. It won't be doing me much good if I can't read it. Perhaps it is time to unconverge and get a true pda and just a plain old phone. What a sad day.
