but man oh man did it suck up some power from battery because of that. I had no way of disabling EvDO to increase battery life. I hope we can come up with a hack to do that and let it stay on 1Xrtt and then toggle it back and forth.
Oh man, this is bad news for me. Besides better stability/quickness, the one improvement over the i730 I was hoping for was better battery life. Equus, overall, how was battery life on the i760 compared with the i730? Hopefully, this is one of the aspects they improved when they returned it to engineering. Also, not being able to toggle between 1x and EvDO is a killer. This is one of my key strategies to deal with the i730's poor battery life on days when I don't have access to a charger. Hopefully someone will crack the code and find the equivalent of **492743.

As I mentioned I was unable to use that code to toggle between evdo and 1xrt, now its possible that the production units might come with a script embedded to accomplish that. Yet, I am sure if that code is not compatible there are enough "power users" here that will come up with a code to enable that. OR there might be "some one" here that might be "able" to post it when the device is released That said the battery life was not any better than the i730, but I was stress testing the Wi-Fi a lot to monitor screen lock ups and battery heating concerns. Did not notice any concerns in that aspect, screen always stayed bright and very, very clear. Sound quality was awesome, BT worked perfect every time but Vcast sucked so did VZNavigator.geez, what a letdown.oh well thats for another day and another thread later.

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
It depends on the version of ActiveSync. I have Wondows Mobile 6 and push mail running through Excahnge Server / ActiveSync and it works great. I get full HTML mail.
I was under the impression that if you were synching through Exchange 2007 you would get all the benefits of WM6 (HTML email...) but if you were synching to a lesser version, this would not be an option and had nothing to do with Activesync versions? For all other mail clients, HTML would be supported within WM6.
Please let me know if I am not uderstanding either your post or the WM6 info I read.
I know this is not directly related to the i760 so forgive me. It is directly related to something someone posted in the thread though. Someone, I don't know if it was KBAM or someone else posted a whole page long list of upcoming Pocket PC devices and one had a device that was like a Symbol MC-70 that had a bar scanner..I noted how it was an actual upgrade from the i730 because of the speed of it's Processor and the like. There are other lists of other phones on here but after looking through 130+ pages I'm really tired..Does anyone have an idea on where that post is? I was curious to see that particular phone but also the other ones on the list. I saved the page before in Firefox but apparently not all of the bookmarks came up after I saved them from the last PC format. I'm thinking it may have been moved but I'm not sure. If you could let me know I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

east coast i760 wisher here. I actually work at circuit city so i have "inside info" on the i760. My VW store got the dummy in today, and he also said everything was in inventory, just not the phone. he said he was looking at about a month or so for the phone. As far as the dummy, it looks great. Keyboard is nice and wide, and the size is perfect for use. I cant wait for this phone to be launched.

Thanks for the info. It's good to hear but WTF is up with that? The phone is in stock and they're not going to sell it for a while? That's great business!

I think he meant everything (e.g. dummy phone, accessories, etc) except for the phone itself is in stock.
well, i bother him every day about it, and about a week ago he looked it up, because he had just got back from some verizon district meeting. Well, he told me that they expect it out in the next month, maybe in the next couple of weeks. so then he goes into the inventory screen and checks to see if it was there, because he had checked a couple of weeks ago, and it was in inventory, but it was just a "0" for the amount for sale. so he comes back to me and goes, "i can get you a case, and stylus, but no phone."
thats what i meant by the had everything but the actual phone. this all happened about a week ago, and when he saw the dummy in inventory, he ordered it, which arrived today.
Hey Equus. Uhh I just mentioned the Symbol MC-70 so I would know about that one already..I was actually asking for a link to the LIST that someone posted in here (maybe around the 40s-60th pages??? I think it was moved or erased I dunno) that included MANY upcoming devices as well a device that is LIKE the Symbol MC-70 but is NOT the Symbol MC-70. I wanted to see that device as well as all the other up and coming ones as well. Thanks for trying to help though.
I found some info on the Samsung i760 on phonearena.com. It looks like the i760 could possible release some time in September of 07. I will keep you posted.
Thank You,

I just shook my head and thought how sad it is that their own sales reps get more information from the phone websites than from their own company.
Yes, I've posted a couple of things about Symbol in the past. MOT bought Symbol last fall (a potentially shrewd move). While Symbol doesn't really make devices most of us would want--and apparently has no CDMA portfolio at all--these guys probably know more about WM than all of the rest of MOT. This comes about because Symbol is an integrated data capture solutions operation. Their apps have to work!
If MOT had its act together (which hasn't been the case for at least 18-24 mos), it would lean on Symbol to design the "i760" we all want, and then turn over production and marketing to MOT's traditional operation. This is how MOT could blow off HTC at the high end. For instance, everyone knows that Symbol devices are bulletproof--just ask a package express driver.
Meanwhile, who got the US gov contract for the Census Bureau's handhelds for 2010? HTC. (Census undercount guaranteed!)
equus found a pretty good quick review of the Symbol MC70. Again, it's not what we want--and fairly pricey at that--but it's closer to being a "system" (as Symbol devices always are) than any other vendor's product line.
Incidentally, the other major "data capture" terminal house is Intermec Technologies.
So you're saying that Dial Code **492743 ("HYBRID") isn't supported on the i760? Isn't this sort of thing implemented on all VZW smartphones and PPCs?
Can't imagine VZW's using more than a single Code for this function across all devices. And it would make no sense to drop support for HYBRID, as these modes serve a valid purpose.
Whatcha think?

P.S. Did other Dial Codes work for you during the i760 testing period?

This is sad, indeed, and you might want to tell him so in a gracious way. (Hopefully, he'll rant at his next meeting.)
It's bad enough that subscribers get no intel from VZW, but when its own reps have to resort to sites like phonescoop or PDAPhH for answers, VZW's marketing operation is utterly dysfunctional.

BAM, I agree 100% with you. I discussed issue this at lengths with our company's rep at lunch last week.
His take was that the "power that be" seem to think is that controlling upcoming release and devise information is imperative to company success in two ways. One, it helps eliminate out-dated devise surplus once the new devices are released; and secondly they seem to think the releasing of information on specific devices puts them at risk competitively.
So they want unsuspecting customers to buy their old crap instead of waiting for the new stuff. Okay, I get that, but point #2 doesnt make any sense to me... if VZW doesnt want info out there on upcoming devises because of "competitive risk" then why all the CES marketing fanfare? Do they think groups like ours are smarter than their competitors? Dont they think AT&T and Sprint are also doing their homework and know everything there is to know about the i760 and everything else big red will be releasing?

(MRAILING EDIT - for those that don't know, this is Morse Code, and my translation it says "The i760 will be out soon". I was about to delete this post, but I will leave it with this translation in place - /End Edit)

Indeed I did tell him, although it wasn't so gracious! I did inform him that it is VZW that I was unhappy with, and not him, as he has taken the initiative to inform me anytime he gets something new. Hopefully the 760 gets released BEFORE I go on vacation for a month!
