Another Dummy Played with (no not a verizon store salesman but a phone)
OK so trying to keep up with the jones' I stopped in another verizon store (happy valley and I-17) to check on the status of dummies and to see if I could take one on a "test" run. This is my second trip to this store asking about the I760 in two days. This time I had my wife's LG NV for a software upgrade. Walked to the back, had the tech check on the software, he then took it and started the process and then I casually asked about the I760 to which he replied...."Haven't gotten them in yet" I then asked about the dummy phones and he said...."ya know i think I do have one".....Went to the back brought it out and I the chance to chat with him and play with it for a while. After hearing all the negative about it I was ready to not like it. I must say....I was pleasantly surprised. It was light, of course no battery, the slider action was crisp, the buttons on the keyboard spaced nicely, they were easy to type with (much easier than the 730) and the overall feel of the phone in my hands very nice. The one thing that I am worried about is the green send button, its a little difficult to press and if you use one finger to push on it the slider wants to open. Of course its a dummy unit so I dont know how hard you are really going to have to press it to get it to send. So as far as the cosmetics of the fake phone. I was quite pleased. It feels nice, is quite smaller than the 730 and fits in the pocket much better. I can't wait to play with the operating system. I ended up giving the tech a lesson on the specs and feature set. He thought the stylus was a radio antenna and that it was coming out with IR. Anyway....he then looked up on his computer for a release date....Spent about ten minutes cruising his screen looking for info and found nothing. Said that when they recieve dummy units it usually means a month before business and online release...so that points to the Sept. release date....Keeping fingers crossed.......

Wow...this thread is becoming like Lord of the Flies
As for the whole "Have there been any dummy phone sightings east of the Mississippi?" question, I went to my local VZW store, asked about the new Samsung, and they told me that they had run out of i730s and hadn't received any new ones.....I just shook my head and walked back out
I say all that to say, no luck in DC
No dummy phones in Nashville TN. The VZW manager at CC knew about the i760 and looked on her computer for a release date but there wasn't one. She said that it would show up for her 2-3 weeks before the official release.
"We have no dummy model and if we did, we wouldn't show it to you prior to official release of the phone."
Well, VZW stores in western states have been getting the dummy and are happy to show it to anyone who asks.
"Nope. You can't see it."
That's too bad. You know, it's not a stealth bomber--it's only a p-h-o-n-e. It's apparent I shouldn't have stopped by. I'll see it at another store--and I may quote you. Thank you.
Called C/S and had a complaint emailed to the store's manager. In our digital, mobile, blog culture, it's...death by arrogance.
Hello all, I have been reading your thread for a few weeks now and have gained a ton of knowledge about this phone. One thing I am still unsure of is the touchscreen, from what I have gathered this phone comes with a stylus, can you also just use your finger or do you have to use the stylus?

yes, it will work with fingers. they include the stylus for more precise work. that, and to keep the cheezy poof residue off your screen.
Cool, thanks! Being that that I have never owned a touchscreen phone I had no idea. Is this phone, or do you think this phone will be fairly easy to navigate through the menus with just your finger? I'm really just interested in scrolling through contacts and getting in to the screens to read SMS messages and emails.
Also please advise me if this kind of conversation should be posted in a different thread, as I know this does not have anything to do with release rumors.
Thanks again for all the great information you all have provided!
Yes I'm sure this should be posted some where else, but to answer your question...
You can do a lot with just one finger on the touch screen (this is based on my 2 yrs with the i730).
You can navigate easily through a lot of menus, especially in WM5 with its soft keys. The only time use the stylus is when im doing heavy web surfing or need to make fine edits on the phone. But for every day quick uses (checking email, calling, writing text messages, even making new appointments) the stylus never comes out!
Wow you question really made think how little i use the stylus and how easy it is to get a lot of work done with just one finger (eat that iPhone )

not sure if this has been discussed regarding WM6.
Regarding the ability to see full emails as on the iPhone, I understand that WM6 should be able to do this...but I havealso seen that it is ACTIVESYNC that als removesall pictures wll thisbe true of WM6? or will I be able to finally vie my exchangeeail thewy theiPhone caims to?
It depends on the version of ActiveSync. I have Wondows Mobile 6 and push mail running through Excahnge Server / ActiveSync and it works great. I get full HTML mail.

So I was on a 5,000 mile road trip with my wife and two girls (5 years and 9 months) and I had to stop in Ft. Collins CO (baby Addie was screaming for some of the good stuff that only mom can provide). I took my 5 year old on a walk and wondered into a VZW store and asked about the i730. They had the dummy but I was told that I was not going to see it because they did not want people posting stuff on the internet about the phone... Seems we may be getting shut down on seeing the dummy phones...

You would think this thing was some super secret military weapon. Makes one wonder if the specs are wrong and there is something more to this phone than meets the eye.
I have a question if anyone knows, but it will probably be one of those we will see when its FINALLY released... Does it have an external antenna port, i live in a low reception area, thank you washington!

You said: Does it have an external antenna port, i live in a low reception area, thank you washington!
This is a very good question that has actually never been asked. As the i760 eliminates the i730's telescoping antenna, an external port is all the more important for marginal RF conditions and especially, for in-vehicle use.
Those who have seen the dummy or tested a pre-production prototype may know. Equus?

KBAM the test unit did have a port similar to i730 where you could install that mini-size antenna coax connector. That said this unit never had a problem acquiring signals even in somewhat "questionable areas". .......but man oh man did it suck up some power from battery because of that. I had no way of disabling EvDO to increase battery life. I hope we can come up with a hack to do that and let it stay on 1Xrtt and then toggle it back and forth.

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
What a bummer that this danged phone isn't out yet...
I am sure this has been asked before, but will the i760 be RevA. upgradeable? I searched for this, but couldn't find it. Thanks.
Sorry if this questions been killed to death, but that's all the info I need.
Thats awsome, thanks hopefully it will be in the final model. Anyone that has battery problems in low reception areas i would definately recommend a amplified antenna. Any questions on them i can definatetly help people out!

Checked in a Verizon guest tonight. I asked what capacity he was in with the company and I was told 'I'm a data guy' at which time I asked if he was aware of any new PPC coming down the pike. He asked which I was referring to and I told him I was a Windows Mobile geek at which time he smiled and said 'a customer close to my heart'. ANYWAY, back on topic, I inquired about the iPhone - just kidding. I asked about the infamous i760 and was informed that his boss has been using/testing one for a month or two now. I was unable to pry any further information from him other than it has been approved by the engineers and that I would be pleasantly suprised with the functionality (I assume he is unaware that I use my 730 to do everything short of wash the dishes unless the 760 can indeed accomplish that for me). No more information than usual but at least the post was on topic and points to a possible September release which has been rumored.

I don't know what "killed to death" means, but if it's similar to 'discussed to death', then you're right: it has. And the overwhelming info (given that no one knows the i760's real configuration with any certainty) is that it does not have Rev. A, and that it is not Rev. A upgradeable.
Of course, those statements may prove to be total BS once we finally see the real phone, but that's where it seems to stand right now.
