Has anyone else encountered the "proprietary information" problem?
This was the point of the story. Has anyone else encountered a sales person that wouldn't even tell you if they have a dummy because it was "proprietary information"?
Probably. . . there are reports of the 760 dummy showing up in stores around Colorado but the store I went to in Colorado springs didn't have one

well, in semi-related news, what appears to be an internal PPT slide has been posted over at hofo with pricing for the Q9m:
$470 full retail, $350 with 2 yr contract
any guesses what this puts the i760 at? i am guessing $50 to $100 more based on increased functionality.
$549.00 retail. $399 with a 2 year with another $100 ADD sounds about the ballpark that we should be looking at, IF THE DEVICE WAS CURRENT TECH WHEN IT WAS RELEASED.
This thing if it doesn't have rev A and doesnt have GPS, should be about $400 retail and $299 with a contract minus the $100 ADD.

Well if we only add what is new, then this thread would die since according to VZW, the phone doesn't even exist, and sales rep's are notoriously incorrect and any and all information is suspect. So in essence, EVERYTHING that is relayed to us by anyone is pure speculation and they have still told us "nothing". I sit back and laugh when I read this thread at how upset people are getting. I too am eagerly awaiting for the 760 to come out, but since it isn't out, I can't do anything to make it come out faster, why bitch about the fact that it isn't out? If your 730 died, there is insurance, get a replacement for something that "exists", if no insurance, man up and pay for a new phone that "exists". Coming on here and ranting and raving about VZW this and that isn't going to change anything.
Cheers
Brian
Amen. Go get a new gizmo and just chill until the next thing comes along. I sucked it up with a freakin Treo of all things. You'll be tired of whatever it is in a few months anyway. I mean, who here hasn't had a dozen or more different phones from different carriers over the years?

That is really what I am looking for with the i760. I'm not looking for something on the bleeding edge as much as something new and different from what is out there currently.
It's not like I am still going to be using it in 12 months, hopefully.
The only reason i am not using a 700wx at this point, it wasn't enough of an upgrade. The i760 should be pretty much what I am looking for.
I have a meeting with our corp sales rep and data rep tomorrow, I don't expect much info, but I'm going to grill them.

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the i760 when I first saw both the GSM and the CDMA versions back in November of 2006 and have been very frustrated by the fact there has been no word of it's release date until August (and even that is speculative).
I don't post often (and usually not much of the content is usefull) but I have to say something about all the complaining about the NE2 and the lack of new phones.
The list below shows the release dates for all the PDA phones that VZW currently supports.
Samsung i730 - July 2005
Treo 700w - January 2006
PPC 6700 - January 2006
Samsung i830 - January 2006
Treo 700wx - February 2007
If you look at all of these dates, They are all withing the scope of the NE2 although the i730 was released the earliest, if you take into account the 6 month grace period for use of the NE2, all these phones are right on target for providing us with the "new tech" we were promised every two years (or so).
Also, new tech is a relative term in this case. VZW is clearly using tis term in reference to what equipment they are providing at the time of purchase. In this case, all the tech that is "coming soon" is new (WM6 vs. ppc2003 or WM5, larger amounts of RAM and ROM as well as GIN and VCAST as I am sure they will point out that these were not options on other PPC's).
Please not that I am not saying that all the frustration that has been posted on this thread not understandable but please understand that these are the terms that we all agreed to when we signed on that dotted line 2yrs ago (or longer such as myself who did so in May of '05).
Oh ok your rihgt. Wer'e sorry for expecting more from VZW inregards to technology!
Do you listen to your self? Are you ok with the fact that we cant buy our devices directly from the manufacturers? We know what the contracts say that's not the point WE ARE FED UP WITH CRAP DEVICES.......PERIOD.
I am trying very very hard to stay with Verizon. But they are making very very hard for me to do this.
My daughter just came to me tonight and said that she wants to save her money up to get an iPhone. I wish I could say but way dont you just get one of the devices from VZW? well I cant that's why. I told her that the three of us are all using VZW and we can call each other at no charge. But the bottom line is she cant understand why all the other prividers have all the good deives?
I am done with ranting about VZW. I cant wait for the day when we can BY OUR DEVICES FROM THE MANUFACTURERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS INSANE!

VZW, It's 2009! Time to embrace technology, not suppress it. - oops too late I've moved on over to the iPhone w/ AT$T!
He told me some dates of stuff, everything was in September, and he went in to some more detail on other things, but I don't know what I can see and what dates I can say. Sorry I can't be more direct, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot over this stuff, or say something that gives him away, just in case someone is reading...
But the reports look good for September, and even more "firm" than the original response of August when he said "should". I am shutting up now...
So Michael, did you get the go-ahead from Ethan to go into more details with us on what he told you?
So, we are now rated depending upon how many posts we have made? Less credence to those that have only a few posts, even though they make a good point. Sad.
Sounds a bit discriminatory. Perhaps I need to be educated on thread etiquette.

You can do that today, but those devices are all GSM/UMTS/W-CDMA and could only be activated on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US.
The day may never come when we can buy unlocked (i.e. open to work on any carrier that supports the cellular standard provided by the device) CDMA/CDMA2000 devices directly from the manufacturer (or an authorized retailer thereof) and have Verizon or Sprint "allow" us to use them on their network.
Hopefully the effort outlined by your sig will resolve this problem for the 700 MHz band

Look what we have become!
Partially... The reason I say this, people take the opinions of people with a low post count less serious until they "prove" that they mean business. But I could show you many users with well over 200+ posts that I wouldn't believe, just because they are "post whores" and respond to any and every post, either repeating other users, or just adding in jokes, or "I agree" comments.
Anyone can create an account, and so you take ANYONE'S posts with a grain of salt, as ANYONE can post incorrect information at any time. Although users generally with a higher post count, and earlier join date typically have more information, or understand things better, just because they have been around, but EVERYONE is a newbie on every site. Sure I might have 7000+ posts, and I am sure when the i760 is released it will jump over 8000 very quickly, but I was a newbie just like everyone else, and there were users here that were around and I learned from when I first came here (Equus was one of them).
So although you do look at post counts to help determine what to believe, or whether to listen to, it isn't the only thing to go by, but when someone with a registration date of today's date, and 1 post gives their opinion, most people usually look the other direction until they prove themselves a little by sticking around and becoming part of the community.
Don't be offended by it, it's just part of the building process of joining a community, which is why Newbies are called newbies...

Yes and no. He's getting information together for me to release and figuring out what won't give his identity.
Basically it's what we have been hearing, second or third week of September release. Hopefully I can get more out of him that I can release...

You think they will do a b2b or a full launch? The reason i think full launch is because the dummy's are out already. I am hoping for a full launch or at least online and b2b.

2nd or 3rd? Damn. Looks like I will be waiting until the end of October. Going on vacation for a month sept 18th Oh well, not like I will be able to play with it much anyways, it is a VZW CDMA phone and won't work outside of the country. At least I will have something to look forward to when I get home hehe. Thanks for all of the info Michael. Appreciated as always, as is the info passed on from Ethan (even if the naysayers here are complaining).

Forgive me in advance as it is not my intention for you to take any of my observations personally, I am merely trying to stop this dancing around the actual VZW contract and NE2 language which speaks for itself. DIAR valiantly tried to remind us all of VZW's own language and contractual promises in post 4504 and we already have gone completely off the rails.
Every day customers sign new two year contracts, they purchase phones which start their NE2 clock ticking and other customers have their NE2 come up for redemption. VZW knows there will be NE2 redemptions every day, it will be an ongoing program and it must comply with the terms set forth every day. So what exactly does VZW promise they will do for their NE2 customers, some of which will redeem their NE2 discount every day?
"Our New Every Two program can provide you with the LATEST in digital phone technology every two years. And Verizon Wireless is the first company to offer it."
"No matter what the future advancements in mobile communications might be, you'll always have the option to enjoy the latest features available."
So VZW has promised us that we will always have the LATEST in mobile communications advancements to choose from when our NE2 comes up for use. and we will always be able "to enjoy the latest features available."
LATEST has a real-word meaning and it is not to be taken lightly. It does not mean kind of neat, incremental improvement, kinda like the stuff other carriers have released months ago, nor does it mean devices with GIN and VCAST, nor does it mean "new tech" a term not in my NE2 agreement that you have inserted and then interpreted. VZW has promised me and every other NE2 customer that no matter when our NE2 becomes available for use, VZW will provide us with the LATEST in digital phone technology as it applies to our original purchase subject to NE2, which does indeed include smartphones and in fact every category of phones for which NE2 is offered. It really is just that simple.
Simply saying that the rumored new smartphones are new(er) as compared to older phones released is irrelevant. VZW did not promise me in writing that my NE2 would get me something "newer" than my old device, it promised a device with the "LATEST features available in mobile communications, NO MATTER WHAT THOSE FUTURE ADVANCEMENTS MIGHT BE." No room for dancing around and making excuses. VZW does owe me what they contractually promised me as an inducement to purchase a device on a two-year contract. Any first year law student will confirm this for you.
VZW may not owe me an i760 or any other particular device that they have not publicly announced, but the i760 does not meet the criteria of the NE2 LATEST technology, so no problem. All I care about is that my NE2 came up last May and VZW did not then and does not now have a smartphone that contains "the LATEST features in mobile communications, no matter what those advancements might be."
No matter what mrailing or any one says about "VZW doesn't owe us anything", every VZW customer with a two-year contract and NE2 is owed by contract a selection of the LATEST devices. That is a contractual obligation, pure and simple. Personally I don't care who VZW gets the devices from or what devices they are, all I care about is that they are indeed the LATEST as promised, not devices released in some cases a year ago in Canada.
If you thought the v710 class-action was fun, wait until the sharks looking at this as a class action go after VZW. The only ones who will benefit will be the lawyers.
Back on topic...two VZW stores in Richmond and one in Williamsburg I visited today while out and about all denied having any demo phones and did not want to discuss the i760 even though I know several of the people in the stores including a manager interested in the i760 and 6800 personally. Some told me the VZW focus is still on the 8830. Bummer.
