It probably needed to have someting like GIN certified to work and to make sure the things they wanted to dummy down or downright cripple could not work regardless of work-arounds and hacks. Notice that this same delays seem to be happening with the 6800 as well. Why do phone manufacturers waste their time making these things for VZW? These VZW guys are totally arrogant about making money and do not care about their customers. As far as I am concerned, I have decided that as of September 1, if I do not have a 760 or an 6800 in my hands, I will pay the termination fees and go totally on at&t. I have been using them as well for the past 6 months and I find the customer service to be equal to, if not better than VZW's. I also find fewer dead spots every week. And, if these past seven days are any indication, at&t did have fewer dropped calls than VZW. September 1, it looks very good that I will be dropping VZW. By the way, I represent 6 VZW cell lines.

I am sorry but I will not be able to live with myself if I wait until the end of September .......more likely beginning of October to spend high end dollars for a device that is clearly not up to current technology.
I always buy a new note book PC every two years and I buy the most leading edge device. No problem there....
Please someone from VZW tell us how you can feel comfortable selling below par (as far as technology) devices that are clearly less in technology then your competitors? Please don't tell me "it's the network"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the time this device and the XV6800 comes out there will be many other devices delivered to us from other service providers.
Sorry Michael for the rant but this is getting ridiculous.

Amen!!! At least some of you have provider choices, some of us are "stuck" with "The Network" due to region, and contract. I would be all over AT&T I we had them here!
We have all put up with this for so long... I know its tiring to hear these tirades, but its also disheartening to have the carrot dangled just beyond our reach for so long once again...
While this thread is supposed to be about discussing when the device is supposed to come out, it looks as if we are spending our time discussing a time that may never come. This is becoming quite a farce. I am sorry if I am upsetting anyone, but what the heck, I am totally blown away by the VZW arrogance. To make matters worse, they do not seem to care of we leave or stay. And my last post was not a threat, it speaks reality.

I have heard from Ethan tonight, but am not going to comment on what he said until a follow up call either tomorrow or Friday. We only talked for less than 5 mins, and he mentioned a couple of things, and I need to run by him whether I can post about it, as I don't want to get him in trouble, since at least one of the comments hits close to home for him...

Michael, can you even say if it's good news or bad news?
I think I'm starting to get a sense of what VZW is trying to do. Perhaps they're attempting to release a device that is actually stable, like the Blackberries and other Symbian phones it carries. Unfortunately, it's taken VZW a whole year to realize that it's impossible to make a WM Professional device that is as stable and reliable. VZW is "grasping at straws" and we're made to suffer.
Michael, can you even say if it's good news or bad news?
He told me some dates of stuff, everything was in September, and he went in to some more detail on other things, but I don't know what I can see and what dates I can say. Sorry I can't be more direct, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot over this stuff, or say something that gives him away, just in case someone is reading...
But the reports look good for September, and even more "firm" than the original response of August when he said "should". I am shutting up now...

Wow, lotsa good posts over the past two days, and welcome to the n00bs!
First up, Wirefly's i760 "not-for-sale" pitch. (And, yes, it defines an unequivocal violation of FCC short-term confidentiality regs.)
Wirefly's a large operation (note that large may not equal reputable), but where'd they get this data!? If any of the oddball items proves correct, it's coincidental--flaws abound.
Regarding the CPU: Not a TI OMAP (Media Application Processor) "Inside;" i760 uses an in-house produced Sammy SC32442 CPU; it runs at 400MHz. If Wirefly's Processor spec is wrong, all details are suspect.
wallst and others raise the Rev A issue. Once again, if one of QCOM's EvDO Rev A-series radio chipsets was onboard for the FCC submission--even if the "official" spec is Rev 0--we have a chance. If Rev A wasn't resident for FCC Equipment Authorization but is now planned, then a new filing is required (but has not appeared). FCC approval takes 10-12 weeks...
Which gets us to bmwesten's research and post on the revelation that two Sammy i760 model numbers exist. Great work, bro, and the most creative bit of new info in days. While we have no idea what this is about, your theory is reasonable. So far, though, nada at the FCC.
Another strong possibility: the "delete-camera" edition. This mod falls into what the FCC calls a "permissive change," and approval is pro forma (meaning no wait-time).
Regarding Wirefly, most of the right questions have now been raised (our group's terrific). Great discussion.
KBAM, wasn't that person the one who randomly bumped into a Samsung rep (not a vzw rep) who offered to answer questions via email. I can't remember is that was brassmonkey.

Verizon does not care what customers think regarding release dates and device updates. Most customers do not go to these forums and do not even know what Rev A means. How do you think Verizon makes its money? Its from customers that think that having the same red ugly GUI on each phone is a wonderful thing. If Verizon could not take advantage of these customers then I am sure they wouldn't be the highest profit generating cell phone company in the US.
Verizon has plenty of staff that analyze financial data. Executives meet twice a month at a very minimum to review this data. All they see is dollar signs. If the company is making money and is not losing too many customers then why do they need to hurry and release new devices. Let the customer buy last year’s junk. Verizon's customer oriented philosophy is all an illusion. It’s not the customer that is important but the profit. My $.02
