Equus, could all of these dummy phones with a two-week release being typical post in-store dummy arrival, mean your post 8800/90 day information was misinformed? here's hoping we're really only two weeks away!!
Stopped in my SE Mich store (Oakland Mall for those in the area). Here's what they knew: The Samy Rep had stopped by last week to let them play with one; No dummy i760's or 6800's; no idea when ;-(

maybe I mentioned that VZW "could" release in 30 ~90 days? standard release has been 90 days after green light from engineering....they could push it up to 60 days too. Its hard for me to see how they can get the infrastructure completed in two weeks?.....yet, miracles are performed on a daily basis.so IF VZW brings this out sooner than expected, that much sooner we all can have fun........could I be wrong? sure I could...I am still a human being you know.I make mistakes like every body else...Yet on mails I get and reports I sent or receive have been pretty accurate from VZW all these years, so hey "stuff happens" sometimes...........I would rather err on the later dates than on earlier date

Actually, brassMONKEY, while mobilegeek's cynical, he's pretty much right.
Ya know, by any objective standard, VZW's network isn't very good. It's just mediocre in more places more of the time than its competitors' networks. To this day, VZW's EvDO in NYC is a toy. It waffles in and out like Radio Moscow and it's as slow as Ketchup until, say, 3am.
VZW C/S is polite and well staffed, yes. With 30 call centers, it should be. Here (and in the stores), there's merely one problem: No subject matter expertise. Oops!
Some will recall the "Verizon Math" controversy, earlier this year, over C/S supervisors not understanding the difference between $0.02 and 0.02 cents. This little exhibition, demonstrated repeatedly and uniquely by VZW, was a classic exercise in call center 'wardrobe malfunction.'
All this, plus obsolete PPCs, stingy voice plans and 5GB "Unlimited" data for 3x Sprint's rate. In what's supposed to play as the era of deregulated telecom, guess what? The 'Bell System' lives!
In fairness, though, VZW isn't holding up new devices so it can buy old ones at closeout pricing. (It sold out of i730s months ago.) Our best guess is that VZW lost about 90 days in enabling the i760 and xv6800 for VCast and GIN. We should soon have a grip on this offensive intrusion.
One thing is certain. VZW will be the last carrier to let go of the anal fantasy that mobile warriors can be held hostage in the proverbial Walled Garden. Thus, our job is to lead the crusade to decouple hardware from service and deliver the promise of mobile empowerment.
What could make this happen quickly? Google could buy Sprint...
. . . .IF VZW brings this out sooner than expected, that much sooner we all can have fun.
equus, you said "we." Does that mean you're going to abandon your iPhone for an i760?

I just got back from Circuit City at 101 and Scottsdale Road (same one dangerous went to). Just to confirm, they DO have the dummy phone. It seemed quite nice. Body felt as though it was made of a metal rather than a plastic. The sales person didn't know when it would be released, but she thought it might be later this month or next. She also had no idea about the pricing.
FWIW, all those pictures we've seen with a time of 10:10 and a date of 3/27/07 are pictures of a dummy phone. At least those were the date and time pasted on the dummy I saw.
I believe that if they've got the dummies (phones ) in stock now, that means they're gearing up for a roll-out within the next 30 days so I'll laying my money on a release by 9/15/07, if not sooner. More importantly, the fact that the stores are receiving dummy phones strongly indicates VZW is not going to abandon the i760. Yippeeee!!!!
I took a picture of that very phone because of the 3/27/07 date that we have seen so many times.

...not doubting your credibility, just hoping that we could read something into all the dummies (phones, not people)!?

no argument here...verizon just sucks the least!
Hey dangerous, I'm curious...with the i730 out of stock and the i760 nowhere to be found, what have they been sending you when you break their phones?
equus, you said "we." Does that mean you're going to abandon your iPhone for an i760?
Oh man you caught that pretty quick did the i760 under the business account from work and keeping the iPhone under personal account.......company pays my VZW bills and I pay the at&t bill which is half of VZW....go figure I do love the iPhone, that dang thing has not "burped" yet, pretty stable unit and that's pissing me off . I am NOT used to a device that has worked flawlessly before and I am so bored stupid Moto Q started working good too and even my Treo 700P did not "want" a reset, so what the heck is going on with all these pda's working well? I need a hobby

I used the iPhone for about a week, but had to go back to Verizon due to insufficient encryption on ATTs network. I am in the medical profession and our communication needs to have a certain level of security/encryption (HIPAA regulations). Chalk one up for VZW as they DO have adequate encryption.
Anyway, loved it except for a couple things.
Why can't we get a PPC with a screen like that? (I know, there are some coming out, but doubt VZW will get them for years).
Still can't decide between 760 and 6800. I am getting the hang of Voice Command, which would make the keypad less necessary. Decisions, decisions.

When did speaking the truth with passion become cynical?

Will try to check VZW stores in Forest Hills/Queens and downtown Brooklyn in the next couple of days. A few weeks ago, they hadn't heard of the i760.
Then again, a few weeks before that, they hadn't heard of EvDO.
In the words of longtime NY radio talk show host, Bob Grant, "I gotta get outta heah!"
--BAM
I plan on hitting the two stores in midtown (42nd and 6th -- 43rd and Madison). I was in the bay ridge store and they were definitely playing the speak no evil game on Staurday.
I just wanted to say goodbye from the boards. I switched back to a non-smartphone. I'm going to miss the bells and whistles, however I'm not going to miss the terrible battery life, the constant lock-ups, and the mediocre phone portion of windows mobile. Thanks to all who have given help over the years, especially michael. I really hope the i760 comes out sometime this year for you guys!
