I agree, but Verizon is far to brick and mortar, to old school, just to big to ever consider that. You're descrbing open-source hardware, and it would be the best solution if your goal was to provide the best possible device to the consumer. Alas, this is not Verizon's goal. Verizon's business model, when it comes to hardware at least, is to limit competition. Sign exclusivity deals with hardware manufactures so that, if you want the i760, you have to have Verizon. Period. Their testing ensures the least amount of tech support calls, not the most functional device. If that means crippling features and dumbing down the device, than so be it.
But it still doesn't hurt to post this in the hopes that some person at Verizon reads it and decides it's a good idea and that giving me (err a few good people) a pre-release of the i760 or whatever new gadget they have. It's all about dreaming...

Michael, I for one would LOVE it if VZW you, SuperDave, and Mark_A_K (and a few others here) a pre-release version to test out--especially if Samsung and VZW actually listened to your feedback and made changes as you all suggest. As much I would like to be a beta tester for a new device like this, I could see beta testing sucking up all my time and, as a result, going broke in the process.

"Ethan" tried to get me a part of it, but that wasn't his division, and most of the people he talked to gave him/me the run around. Ethan now is in a totally different area, more with the technical side of their systems, and not involved in the phone side any longer, so it would be even harder to get it done. I haven't talked to him in about a month due to his busy schedule, but he says he's no longer in the loop on the phone side of things without making a lot of calls...

Verizon had their local EV launch event yesterday. The Samsung rep was set up so I started talking to her about how much I love my 730 and it's been two years now when are we getting something new. She starts talking about the 760 and when it's suppose to be released and all it's features. I start getting all giddy and the VP of my company standing next to me is just rolling his eyes. Then she pulls one out from under the table, fully functional and hands it to me. Don't wave this around the room, she says, I'm not suppose to show it off yet. First thing I did was jump to the device info to see if it's really got everything she says it does. Saw Wifi, BT 2.0, 1.3MP camera. She swears they are going to release it with the camera this time because of all the consumer flak they caught with the 730. I didn't look around much to see if all this info was already out there, just searched these forums. I'd say it felt about 2/3 as heavy as my 730 with the standard battery.
760 won't return anything, i760 will. The search engine here doesn't like 3 character searches... No biggie, just merged the posts to here...

I just wish I could remember the exact version of the OS I saw on it. I've been so busy the past few months I haven't had time to keep up with this forum. The rep really gave me the impression that it would be released in Feb or March.
It has Crossbow on it, which is essentially WM6...

So how about size comparison to the i730? Can you talk about that? Thickness, overall size, screen size? How did the buttons feels? How about the keyboard? Did the touchscreen work well? Did you get to play with the stylus? Did it feel fast?

How is the power connector??? Have they gone away from proprietary connectors and possibly put in a mini USB (man do I wish, as it can be a pain finding power cords otherwise)? I sure hope that at some point Samsung realizes that not all of us want to carry around 30 different power connectors and cords. I would like one mini USB that way I can sync/charge with it for the phone as well as all of my other devices and be down to 1 cord finally. Come on... Motorola, HTC, RIM, and others realized this a looong time ago.

Are all Mini USB power connections created equal? Even if Samsung puts a mini USB on the i760 will it work with other power adapters?
My Wife's Blackberry has mini USB and so does her GPS. I have never really looked to see what the voltage and amp comparisons are between them. I guess the pin configuration could be different as well. Since most of them can charge from a USB connection it has to be able to accept the 5V, but then do the bump up to 12V etc. when using different adapters? Possibly more when using AC adapter?
Just curious if anyone has checked into it. I will check her devices and see, but could be a coincidence between those two and maybe not the case for all mini USB.
You would think there would be a standard, but these days anything is possible. The new Standard is No Standard!
There is SUPPOSED to be a standard for the mini USB. Although sometimes these cable standards are not followed as you say, but since there is a standard all cables should work as interchangeably as long as the manufacturer followed the standard when they built the cable.

I literally had about 60 seconds to play with it before she took it back, barely enough time to get to the system screen. I think it was kind of the best of both worlds between the 6700 and 730. It was quite a bit lighter than my 730 with the standard battery. I actually flipped through the start menu to settings with my fingernail, didn't even have time to find the stylus. The only thing I'm kind of worried about is it looks like the screen was totally flush with the body so there wouldn't be an easy way to attach any screen protectors to it. I've worn out two writesheilds already playing bejewled 2. The slider mechanism was very smooth, no effort at all to slide it open and it didn't have the play to it most 730's do. The only thing I got to ask her was how do you lock it when it's closed and she didn't know, then we got pulled away to the presentation.

When you accessed the system screen, was the device responsive when navigating through the menues? For instance, if I soft reset my i730 and go into the settings menus for the first time since resetting, there is a long lag time between when I tap the "system" tab and when the icons actually appear on the screen. Did you notice any latency on the i760?
please help me....and when is it comiin out...i NEED this phone....i had the Q ...it doesnt even compare to what this phone has..and the form factor seems nice...
All, Just received confirmation from my VZW rep that the 6800 will be released in February. They had no specific release date in February for the 6800, just some time in February. I also asked about the i760. They had no information on any time frame for the i760. I doubt it is coming in February. I think mrailing is right that the 6800 will be introduced as the i730 is sold out and then later 2Q the i760 will be released as the 6700 is phased out.
