went in to access My Account tonight about 11 PM ET. Couldn't view my bill, minutes used, or look at the list of phones I'm eligible to upgrade to.
routine server work at an ungodly hour on the weekend when traffic is likely to be lowest? or are they prepping the site for the release of the i760?!?!?
*dumdum dum dummmmmm*
c'mon, bring on the conspiracy theorists
Mine says that my wireless account has been disconnected...that's not good!
for what it's worth, I just went in to my local VvZW store to get my wife an upgrade phone and the sales rep told me that the latest release info he knew about was that the I760 would be available on September 10th. Hr also thought that it would have Rev A, but was not 100% sure on that.
This may be a consumer release date rather than a b2b release date, but I guess we'll just have to wait to hear the information that Ethan said SHOULD be out hopefully this coming week before we know for certain.
You said: If they add Rev A, wouldn't they have to go through FCC testing and approval again?
Believe they would if the approved design did not have a Rev A-capable chipset.
But, if we read between the lines, Equus (who's still subject to a NDA) suggests that the i760 may have been submitted with QCOM's Rev A chipset. In this case, resubmission is not required and Rev A support is a firmware upgrade away.
Still, all official signs point to a non Rev A-worthy device.

Then general concensus seems to be that the phone was not developed with a Rev A capable chip.
Read Equus post again....it states that the phone did NOT have Rev A when he tested it, but VZW has been known in the past to pull chips and swap them in sweat shop of sorts. Basically he seems to be saying pull the Rev 0 chipset and replace it with a Rev A chipset.

Equus' post is somewhat cryptic. Still, the i760 either has QCOM's Rev A chipset or it doesn't.
It's inconceivable that VZW would authorize any post-manufacture hardware mods, let alone pay for them. And as you say, an FCC filing, as well as a firmware change, would be required.
So, as a practical matter, Rev A would have had to have been onboard at the time of FCC submission and approval. (The i760 was approved 03/30/07.)
You said: I asked about the i760.. She told me that it came out yesterday and that she could order it for me if I wanted to.
Many will appreciate the surpassing humor in your report. After 9 months, 385,798 thread views, and 3,898 posts anticipating, demanding, second-guessing, and lamenting insufferable delays in the worldly debut of this device, your source is unique. She represents the one and only suggestion that, by virtue of its i760 obsession, our entire army of tech special forces has missed the rollout.
Priceless!
The cycle of divining all possible outcomes is now complete.
Good night, Gracie...

Ahaha, that's exactly what I thought too when she told me that it had been released. :\
So I called back and talked to another rep and she said she'd have a talk with her employee and straighten some things out with her so she doesn't go around telling everyone that asks about the i760 that it's been released.
Although, it would be funny to have a bunch of hopeful people buying it only to realize that they purchased an i730 because she couldn't understand them or was just confused. :P
As Michael mentioned yesterday, VZW doesn't owe us anything so we have no right to be upset that VZW hasn't announced, let alone released, the i760. This is a free market economy. If you're not happy with VZW--for whatever reason--you have a choice, which is to change carriers. Theoretically, if enough people are unhappy with VZW's practices and leave VZW will have two options: (1) change its practices or (2) close its doors. It's as simple as that.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Welcome to Capitalism folks. As much as we want (pray) to come out, we cannot complain to the fact that it does not. Out info comes from leaks, rumors, and some folks violating their NDA. In other words, they didn't annouce, so we cannot complain. If they did say "July 5" or whatever and that day passed, then we can storm/raid the VZW HQ with a big log. Until that happens, chill. We can be disappointed, but we cannot be angry.

While I've said this all along and agree with it, I have one thought that's starting to take over.
While Verizon owes us no particular phone. As customers under contract, they do owe us a suitable selection of phones that fit our needs. I signed up our company with a corporate contract with Verizon. This is not somehting that is easy to walk away form since we have many lines at differing points in their contract.
If for some reason I wanted/needed to move to another PDA phone with new functionality, Verizon is failing to offer such a phone.
Luckily, I am happy with the Q (as flawed as it may be) for our salesforce and I'm not looking to migrate. But what if I brought on a new app that required something more than a smartphone? The current selection of PDA phones is lacking and getting outdated.
To summarize, Verizon doesn't owe us the release of a particular phone. But they are doing their business PDA customers a great disservice by allowing their selection of PDA phones to languish.

"The Bizarro Jerry"
P.S. no news from my rep but he seems to think sept.
Looks like one of the VZW boys posted an updated spreadsheet that says the 6800 will be released on the 15th, but no update on the i760 that is also listed on that bit of info.
well unless i hear something soon about the i760 from my work buddies at vzw i might be getting the 6800 for a 30day trial or something hoping the i760 comes out after. definitely good news if that date holds up gives me my first pda to start school with
