You said: If they add Rev A, wouldn't they have to go through FCC testing and approval again?
Believe they would if the approved design did not have a Rev A-capable chipset.
But, if we read between the lines, Equus (who's still subject to a NDA) suggests that the i760 may have been submitted with QCOM's Rev A chipset. In this case, resubmission is not required and Rev A support is a firmware upgrade away.
Still, all official signs point to a non Rev A-worthy device.
When will the FCC documents get released to the public?
Surely their confidentiality period has expired by now.
Is anyone wondering what is going on with this device? Not from an "I'm po'd at verizon" angle (although there seems to be plenty of that), but from the approach that I have never really seen a manufacturer and reseller cooperate for this length of time to obfuscate the situation with a piece of hardware.
One would not think that this device is that critical to the continued existence of either company to justify this level of misdirection.
On the release front, I think Ethan saying we would "hear something", that we didn't hear something lends more credence to the September camp.
When will the FCC documents get released to the public?
Hey guys...like many, I've been reading the forum's excerpts for some time and wanted to add some info in reply to when the FCC docs may be released. If you go to this FCC link:
You can see a date of 08/12/07 which is the date that I've had in my head for when it may be released (give or take). However, after reading Mark's question, I went back to the FCC site and browsed to this link:
Which shows a date of 09/26/07 as the available date for internal photos, user manuals, etc. So I think this may be when their confidentiality expires and they would have to release this info to the general public (including competitors). So although they could release it earlier (08/12 date), they may not release until Sept. However, going off Ethan's info of mid-August...08/12 sounds pretty good.
I know this is long but the Verizon rep for our hospital had this to say to me the other day:
"The Treo 755P should be out within the next 2 weeks from the last communication I saw. As for the Samsung I have not been given anymore information. I was able to play around with the Motorola Q9h which is the next Q version. It is a very nice device. I have seen some other models from Audiovox like the new xv6700 model but no concrete information on releases unfortunately. I do wish they would be out soon because the models out now are running close to end of life in the inventory which is a usual sign that a new one is on its way. I apologize about not having more information. I have been watching myself!"...for what it's worth.
On the release front, I think Ethan saying we would "hear something", that we didn't hear something lends more credence to the September camp.
Ethan said "first week of August". In our business, the first week of a month usually refers to the first FULL week, to avoid confusion with the term "last week of" which refers to the last week that has days in that month. So this up coming week would be the first week of August, while the last would be the last week of July. Maybe VZW uses these terms, maybe not - but don't go putting words in Michael or Ethan's mouths just yet.
If they add Rev A, wouldn't they have to go through FCC testing and approval again?
where is all of the rev A speculation coming from? Is there even a credible source that it is even a possibility? I want it as much as the next guy, but from what I can tell it is just hopium!?
Ok, although this is in the FCC thread, I will mention it again. A company can request short-term confidentiality for a product, which is granted in 45 day blocks, and they can request for up to a total of 180 days, at which time the documents are then made public, whether the product is released or not. If there is sufficient marketing activity, or the device is released, the short-term block is also suppose to be lifted.
So, with the i760, and having the date of 8-12, and now being pushed 45 days to 9-26, this falls in line with a 45 day request, and it should be approaching the end of the 180 day block on 9-26.
So a company can keep requesting up to 180 days, even if the product is scheduled for release.
All Ethan said was "their SHOULD be information released from Verizon during the first week of August, and we SHOULD see the device released BY August 23, yet that is not necessarily the release date." Those are pretty much his words. He said SHOULD. I haven't been able to talk to Ethan because of prior commitments on his part, and will attempt to reach him this next week. I don't know if it is the first full week of August, but since we haven't "seen" anything from Verizon yet, then I assume it was/is.

Need help setting up your i730/i830 or other WM2003/WM5 Phone, as well as the other hacks I have done, check out the MRailing Guides and Links
Ok, what's odd is I just got off the phone with someone with Verizon and since I'm looking to get rid of my i730 I asked about the i760.. She told me that it came out yesterday and that she could order it for me if I wanted to.
I honestly didn't believe she knew what she was talking about and decided to go into the store to see if she was lying or not. Turns out they didn't have it in the store and the guys there hadn't even HEARD of the i760..
How come Verizon is so off the ball when it comes to this phone? I just want an upgrade. >:O
Why didnt you order it while you could? You missed your chance. Now your going to have to wait like the rest of us.
Haha, yea. Because I'm pretty sure a brand new i760 would have showed up at my doorstep within a week.
If anything it might have been something like another i730 or i830 which would be really hard to explain to Verizon as to why I didn't want the same phone (Or close to) the one I'm trying to get rid of.
I'm getting tired of Verizon I'm about ready to move to AT&T because at least they're releasing new phones instead of rehashing old phones like Verizon.
Check out this pic from a thread about the Treo 755p. It shows the launch date for the I760 as 9/4/2007.
I posted that on HoFo months ago. People thought it was a thing I made but it was a spreadsheet from Verizon. Theres nothing concrete until Verizon actually says the release date.

Thanks, but this was posted a while back, and the consensus is that it is not stating that 9/4 is the release date for every phone below the "CDM 8630".

Many will appreciate the surpassing humor in your report. After 9 months, 385,798 thread views, and 3,898 posts anticipating, demanding, second-guessing, and lamenting insufferable delays in the worldly debut of this device, your source is unique. She represents the one and only suggestion that, by virtue of its i760 obsession, our entire army of tech special forces has missed the rollout.
Priceless!
The cycle of divining all possible outcomes is now complete.
went in to access My Account tonight about 11 PM ET. Couldn't view my bill, minutes used, or look at the list of phones I'm eligible to upgrade to.
routine server work at an ungodly hour on the weekend when traffic is likely to be lowest? or are they prepping the site for the release of the i760?!?!?
