He said that everyone who leaves will come back because nobody else has a network that is competative with VZW. He said it with little or no emotion.

Oh yes, when I asked him when the i760 would be out, he said that they are trying to get it out within two weeks, but he did not feel it was as much of a priority as some of the other devices that they really want to release release this month.

I am wondering what is going on in the minds of the VZW leadership. I am wondering how they got so disconnected from their customers?
I think that VZW is connected to the customers that will bring them more profit. Those who are computer savvy enough to buy a pda phone and add 3rd party apps and stream media do not garner VZW any additional revenue. Those who will buy phones, such as the RAZR2, and pay to watch reruns of MTV programming and sports highlights through VCast Mobile TV will generate way more revenue for VZW.

I think that might be why the VP said that "he did not feel it was as much of a priority as some of the other devices." If you think RAZR sales was tremendous amongst younger consumers because it was the slimmest phone available, wait until VZW announces that younger consumers will be able to watch Laguna Beach and The Real World on their RAZR2. The back-to-school sales period is coming up and those phones will be a hot commodity.

Furthermore, I can understand why the VP was somewhat smug about how "The Network" will resolve any consumer flight issues. Jumping ship and getting a pda phone from another service provider would be pointless in my case because VZW is the only reliable network in my market (DC). My friends and I joke that the only reason Cingular/AT&T has the fewest dropped calls is because they never connect in the first place. I have to get a VZW pda phone and I am confident that the i760 will be worth the wait.....

thatquietkid122, while you are right about the network in DC today, tell me the same thing in 12-18 months. But since you are stuck with VZW, you are right - the i760 will be worth the wait. And, in my case, it will be as well since I travel all over the place and there are areas where VZW is the only game in town. But there are also areas wher AT&T is the only game in town so I am forced to use both. In the case of VZW, I need a new device ASAP since my i730 has become much too unreliable for continued use. I am looking forward to either the i760 or the 6800, whichever comes first. If they are released on the same day, I will definately go for the i760. I hope Michael and Equus are right, but today's silence is killing me.

I hadn't considered that fact. You are right about VZW vs. AT&T. I live in Maryland, and I work and attend school in DC, so DC is the only market that I frequent. Therefore, VZW is the only game in town for me. I can only imagine my dilemma if I had to go from VZW-only areas to AT&T-only areas. My condolences go out to your data charge bills. Based on what I have heard about build quality, I would go with Samsung. If you get both, it will be interesting to see which one holds up for the longest.

Also, the silence is a bit deafening. I logged on at about 8 this morning EST and nobody had posted since 11 last night. I thought something was wrong with my browser.....

I am just waiting for more information to surface. I think that Verizon slide with the phones is comforting to know that it is "rolling" out this month, with the 6800 as well.

That is because it gets buried, and most people don't read here daily. They find a news story like this and rush here to tell us in their excitement, and with numerous posts joking around, things get buried and passed up.

I would personally rather see 10 posts on something out in the wild, then not seeing it at all.

I have tried the same thing, running up the number, but from what I have been told, it's not in the system yet that can be pulled up, as they "protect" their information.

I tried running numbers and even built a page with links for 1000 numbers and did a screenshot of each page, but if it isn't on the list on their page, then it's not showing up in their system where you can access.

Oh yea, I forgot to say that when the VZW VP commented on the speed of AT&T on my TyTN, he was using my bluetooth and was speaking on its phone at the same time. It was clear that this capability blew him away.

mrailing & dangerous: Have you tried yesterday/today? If that "internal" spreadsheet is to be believed, wasn't there supposed to be some sort of update about the i760 on the vzw website yesterday (July 31st?) There's nothing visible to the naked eye on testman, but maybe with a little digging...

True, I much rather see reposts on stuff posted on engadgetmobile then read about how the iPhone is changing the way people talk on cell phones or some other garbage.

I think before making any post, people should at least catch up on the last 24 hours. I know I do.

I think it is incredible that as we get (hopefully) closer and closer to the arrival date of the two most talked about phones (i760 and 6800), we start to lose sight of what is imprtant here which is THE RELEASE DATE OF THE PHONE!

Anybody hear anything else? There is nothing on HOFO and the rest of the web is useless as nobody is as informed as these two locations (pdaphonehome and howardforums).

I have been waiting for this phone since it was first revealed back in November/December of 2006 and am getting so excited about the impending release I think my head will explode.
