All the sudden, I have this image of a large warehouse somewhere with a bunch of VZW elves frantically opening a million box, unscrewing i760 cases, pulling a chip, inserting a new chip, rescrewing the case back together, repacking the i760, and wrapping it with nice bow--all while in the background a supervising is shouting at them over the loudspeaker: "Hurry up, iProb8's birthday is coming soon and we've got to get all these i760s swapped out in time!"
With my luck, mine will be worked on by a cotton-headed ninnymoggins!

It would be more plausible to begin believing in Santa Claus!
Wouldn't the "innerds" of the i760 be completely sealed with the same kind of epoxy stuff that's encompasing the i730 board?

I am not so sure about that Pastor Tim. The i760 Processor is a new manufacturing process for Samsung called POP (package on package). It appears that this allows for the DRAM / Flash memory to be on board with the proc and controllers. From reading their descriptions this is a modular setup with multiple peripheral interfaces, so it may be as simple as swapping a pluggable chipset at this point.

I think mine is the one on top of the pile in front of the large guy with the green suit.

Intriguing comments and we look forward to your timely release...from "Club Fed"--at which point you may be able to shed more "RF" on the subject of Rev A (or lack thereof) for the i760.
Still, if the i760, as tested and submitted to the FCC, was missing QCOM Rev A, an ECO (engineering change order) to substitute upgraded silicon (however modular its installation) would appear to require at least a "Permissive Change" application, and probably more. We've seen no evidence of supplementary FCC paperwork (although it could be cloaked by the ever-twisted confidentiality provision).
Given that VZW has announced "completion" of the Rev A rollout, Rev A-capable devices are now a very big deal. The i760 would be far less competitive--and have a much shorter marketability life--without Rev A.
Even more to the point, no new PPCs/smartphones should appear without Rev A capability, as nobody can be expected to tolerate less (all data subscribers are paying for Rev A). The Rev A hook is analogous to the bling of WinMo 6.
And on a technical level, it's not so much for the d/l speed as it is for the uplink speed, lower latency, and (hopefully) VZW's implementation on Rev A of simultaneous voice and data.
Not asking you to reply at this time, but we're standing by for news...

P.S.
maxnix,
Nah, little, if any, price Delta for Rev A. Consider HTC's x6800 (Sprint Mogul) as a reference. It's $399.99 w/Rev A hardware (waiting to be enabled). Objective analysis suggests the i760 is a lesser animal, albeit better-built. Fair value at release: $299.99/2-yr. If VZW doesn't get this, the sucking sound you'll hear will be..."Kaiser Churn."
If by some chance they did remove the chip and replace it with a Rev A compatible chip, the cost would be significant and then passed on to us. So maybe not iPhonesque in price, but Mogulesque possibly?
Of course, it all depends on when they made that decision (how far the phones were through production.)

Yeah, he's the cotton-headed ninnymoggins! Hmmmm....maybe you didn't see the movie. I LOVE THAT MOVIE!

Yup, I must have missed it. I'm not even sure which one it is.
I'm actually a bit surprised Pastor Tim hasn't used his Photoshop skills to replace all the Etch-A-Sketches in the photos with i760s.

Starting to get more accessory hits this morning. If the 3rd party suppliers are to be believed the charger etc is not even close to the same as the i730.

This site appears that the charger is the same as the ZX10 / 20 (pictured here in car charger format)
This looks like Samsung is more interested in making money for accessories than doing what everyone else is doing - USB all the way. Too bad. This interconnect will be as troublesome as all the rest and not as readily available as USB. It is not a show stopper for me, but it will become an annoyance for most of us. Standards are there for a reason and should be followed by everyone.

USB is a standard computer interface cable which would be really nice if all Pocket PC's used. I can see why Samsung wouldn't use that though. In terms of accessories Pocket PCs are more phones than PCs. And Samsung already has those crappy little connectors built and available. Maybe in the future Samsung's Pocket PC design team would rather make their customers happy than screw them and make a penny more per unit...

Samsung is one of the few WM device manfacturers that still offers a cradle with their PPC unit.
I would rather have the cradle for my device if that requires the proprietary connection method, than just a USB connection.
I was so concerned about having my Treo 700Wx laying on it's back while charging and synching that I bought a cheap usb charge/synch cradle the same week I bought the phone.
Which brings to mind the question of does anybody know whats in the box?
I am really upset with VZW for selling these incredibly expensive devices without cradles and cases. It's almost as iff they want you to buy these things from them after spending so much on the phone

A few pages back it was discussed about what MIGHT be in the box, possibly:
Standard Battery
Extended Battery
Charger
Stand
OEM Case
All this is speculation, as we don't know anything yet until information is released.

SAMi760VPC = i760 Vehicle Charger/Cord
Not certain, just logical guesswork. Please revise as appropriate.
So not only do we speculate as to what the release date will be, and what the radio rev will be, but also what comes with the unit. The intrigue is killing me as we all line up to purchase whatever this will be, whenever it comes out, and whatever will come with it. LOL
Why oh why am I still interested in it, I will never know, but I am, nevertheless. But if the 6800 comes out first, I will grab that. Loyal to this device, I am not. But even though the two devices have blurred over time, I think I like the dialer on the front of this one as added value.
I sure hope we hear something more substantial this week.
