Until this phone comes out, you will just have to excuse me for being totally crazy and accept my appologies.

A couple of on topic and a couple of only slightly off topic things.

The charges being out has been a topic of talk off and on, well it is out and has been for a long time. You see it uses the same plug as the Sammy U740.

It has been said that the 760 has no Infra Red but the specs list an IrDa Gate... what's the dif?

Also I was concerned about the Processor speed too. But the device seemed plenty snappy when I was playing with it for the short time I did. I was flippying it opened and closed and the screen rotated quickly. I was flying through menus pretty quickly too. So hopefully the CPU will be just fine.

Someone mentioned getting used to the keyboard I will say that the keyboard seemed very responsive and super easy to type on.

Off topic a bit.. Michael is it possible that you may finish the Carbon Fiber Dialer in time for the new device? I would really like to be able to use that on the 760. You have done some beautiful work so far. Also huge thanks for all you and SD have done over the years.

And I can absolutely Guarantee that you can combine NE2 and ADC or (advaced device promo credits) there are guidelines like only on a plan 34.99 and above, only when combining voice and data for the first time on your account. If you remove the unlimmited data VZW does have the right to charge you the 100.00 discount. Keep in mind these discounts are what will take this device down to the 200 - 400 dollar price range that I would fully expect it to be released at. And I have no doubt there will be other rebates as well.

I just got an email from my VZW rep. He no longer works for Verizon and now works for Cinti Bell.

I asked him what he could tell me about the i760 and he said it's not coming out until October. Personally, i think (know) he is full of crap. He is just trying to get me to leave VZW. He seemed genuinely offended that i wasn't even willing to dicusss what devices Cincinnati Bell was offering.

Typical recent college grad who thinks they had anything to do with my decision to buy from VZW in the first place.

4th rep in 3 years.........

not to be a jerk or anything but this is not at all on topic. this topic is about the release date of the i760, not about specs or credits......

i have been guilty of posting off topic as well but have been trying not to recently.

it is very difficult to get anything relevant from this thread anymore.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, I think that this thread is intended for ALL discussion of the i760. What is off-topic might include the iPhone, why you are buying a Sprint Mogul, pictures of your cat, etc. I don't think the mods wanted separate threads about specifics until the device is actually released (since for the most part we can't actually confirm anything until then anyway, although some things seem more concrete than others).

From Michael's sticky:

Since this forum is new, and the device has yet to be released, please keep all discussions about the i760 in the Release/Rumor thread. This will keep a general discussion continuing, and once the device has been released we will hopefully spawn the new information. If a thread is posted that should be in the i760 Release/Rumor thread, it will be merged into that thread.

In the coming month(s), I will be working up the information on the i760 as starting the FAQ and general information. I am going to work on getting this going from the beginning and try to keep it up.

It will help keep things organized to stick with the Release/Rumor thread until more concrete information is put out and once it is finally release, so your help in this matter would be greatly beneficial...

I am going to close this thread, as this is jumping the gun a bit, and nobody knows for sure.

Michael, if spec discussion is now off-topic here, please let us know, and maybe we could start a "pre-release specs questions" thread.

Re: Ir port, do we really need one of these? How much does anyone use one outside of trying to remotely control a bar tv? Maybe there are still other necessary uses that I don't know. I remember trying to swap files to a laptop via IR from my old ipaq back in the day. I never could get it to work.

we have all been posting off topic, including MRAILING.

Point of Simple Order

As is human nature, people digress when what they want, they cannot have. This thread (IMHO) is about the release of the i760. It is impossible to find the few strands of wheat in the morass of chaff - each of us is waiting for that one post that says "it's here".

Friendly suggestion - if your post contains information (good bad or indifferent) about the release of the i760 - put it here. Someone consider starting an i760 rant/rave thread - post there when you want to talk iphone, kaiser, cats, or dogs.

That way we will drool even more with very delicious morsel that is posted here, as we get closer to the release.

Once the device is out this thread will be closed and as far as I'm concerned, all the threads in the list should be closed. Only the new threads after the release will be relevant.

Again, according to the sticky for this section, this thread is for "all discussions about the i760" which are not to be started in numerous separate threads (e.g., wi-fi or gps issues on the i760, external keyboard questions, how fast is the Processor on the i760, etc.). This thread has always been for all things i760, including specs. If that rule has changed, as we (hopefully) get closer to release, then we just need to know.

Topics will fluctuate in these rumor threads, BUT if you read each time I have posted, then you will see the previous 10 or more posts were about stuff COMPLETELY unrelated to the i760, it's release and rumors. If you are discussin the i760 then great, but when it's about leaving Verizon, how well a Q works, how pretty the iPhone is, that isn't needed, stick to the i760 and all is well. And now everyone is complaining about what the topic is, and again more posts go by. Yes it's asked to keep the discussion in this thread, but there are other threads in the forum for general discussion. I will go back and edit the stickies and forum headers if you feel it must be done. That was posted to keep the i760 discussion in here, and my posts about keeping the discussion on topic is to keep the general i760 discussion and it's rumors and release in this thread, not just general banter about anything. You all should be adults if you are here, and should be able to follow general forum etiquette. It's just courtesy to keep discussions on their posted topics.

I point no fingers at people in this thread about off-topic discussion. It's a general post to try and steer the conversation back on topic. Sure posts are done in this thread, and yes even I am guilty of off topic discussions, but the closer to release a device comes, the more posts happen in these threads, and when you have on average around 80 posts/day in this thread, then it makes it hard to find the real information when it's posted, especially when around 50-60 of those posts aren't discussing the i760 at all.

JDCJ, I just re-read my sticky and the quote about the i760 and GPS. In my sticky I say
Quote:
all discussions about the i760 in the Release/Rumor thread
. Again that says discussion about the i760, not about iPhone, marketing, why you are waiting for XXX new device.

The i760 has yet to be released, and unless you have used it, and know first hand on a subject like GPS and how it works, then there shouldn't be new threads on it, since it's all speculation at this point. Yes there are threads comparing the specs of the i760 to things like the iPhone, and that is fine, because that would just complicate things here.

So again, my posts aren't meant to say "ONLY WHEN YOU KNOW A RELEASE DATE", it's pointed at those discussions which aren't even needed in this forum. If you have a question about the i760 or information on when it's coming out, this is where you post it. If you want to post about the iPhone, go to the iPhone forum, if you want to discuss ways that Verizon is marketing, go to the lounge, if you want to talk about why you no longer like Verizon and are thinking about going to "joe blow" network, try the lounge or someplace else, it's just a matter of organization and discussion.

Simply put, this thread is a discussion of the SCH-i760, it's upcoming release, and rumors and discussion about the SCH-i760. Other topics take elsewhere.

mrailing, the only way to find any useful information in a thread like this is for you to make the first post and then update it weekly (or whenever) as new info comes out. this is a rambling thread which, by its very nature, is prone to rambling thoughts that might be off-topic but are all related to the wait for this phone - the frustration, the rumors, the wandering eyes to other devices and, yes, the competitors to VZW.

an updated first post would at least help solve the problem of people having to wade through pages to get the most relevant information (though that creates more work for you).

that said, i will follow the rules from now on. (though I'm thinking of making my signature "KAISER!!")

This is the latest from my rep:

"I just got word back from my data guy and it looks like September for launch of this device
check with me in 2-3 weeks for an update

thanks"

Last month he said August...now he's pushed that back to September. It's frustrating waiting...I never have been a very patient person.

Here is some more information on the i760 Processor. SC32442 POP

ARM - Connected Community - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd - SC32442 Package-on-Package ARM9 Processor and Memory

I found the following excerpt interesting and have hope for good battery life with this device.

"The SC32442 POP is the ideal solution for creating smaller, thinner, higher-performance handhelds with long battery life"

Another resource compares the benchmark of the 520Mhz i730 Processor with the previous version of the samsung chip SC32440 and shows those Processors being comparable with a slight edge to the i730. One can suppose that the 442 chip has better performance via the package design.

Samsung i730 - Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Reviews by Mobile Tech Review

This gives me hope that the performance of this device will be quite good while having some power conserving functionality that the i730 doesn't. There do not appear to be any benchmarks comparing a 32442 device with the i730 Processor.

So while it is not light years in advancement of functionality, it appears that at this should provide significant improvements at a physical hardware level that all of us should be able to appreciate.

This coupled with the my previous experience with the build quality of the i600 and i730 that I have owned makes me feel quite good about the decision to wait for its release.

Personally I feel that reps will continue to tell you a date in the future, since many know nothing at all about when the device is going to be released, until they are told about it, or see it in the system. Most reps want to sell you phones now, or at least make you happy, so with any information on the release (including stuff from "Ethan"), take it with a grain of salt, as dates can change for all types of stuff.

Ethan mentioned in his last call to me, that would should start seeing official stuff from Verizon if everything holds to form sometime next week, possibly (IMO) in terms of announcement on the website. So if it goes well and according to plan, we might know a release date next week.

Exclamation Suggestion To Moderators

I won't feel at all bad about this being deleted if you'd like to remove this clutter:

Is it possible to make a Sticky inside of a Thread? My idea is that a sticky inside of a thread might allow some of these naturally occurring OT discussions to still be heard by putting links to common discussions (eg. leaving VZW for iphone, i760 vs. Kaiser, and some of the other common routes we keep running) that don't fit the i760 release thread. I've enjoyed a lot of the discussion that has been OT, and I'd hate to lose it. I've noticed that I've gotten used to just coming to this thread when I'm looking for general conversations, just because so much is happening here. I've also been frustrated a couple times when I've come to the thread specifically looking for new information about the i760. If some sort of "Sticky Reminder" was at the top of the thread page, then we might be able to improve the health of this thread and improve the discussion that is happening in some of the other applicable threads as well. I think we all want to contribute, and sometimes we get so used to refreshing our screen and living in this thread (and of course we want our voice to be heard too, so we talk in the place that everybody is looking) that we forget to make an extra click or two and put our information in a better place. I'm not sure what the limits of forum design and thread construction are, but it seemed like a good idea.

Like I said earlier, I just meant this as a suggestion for the moderators to see, so feel free to delete it once you've seen it.

cheers
