Hate to be "johnny raincloud" here ... but ... My rep ... who just happens to bowl on my company bowling team with me ... told me Monday night that she had received an email stating the the I760's release date has been "pushed back" ... imagine that ... a new verizon phone with lots of rummors about release dates ... go figure ... she normally wouldn't tell me about it at all ... but I've been driving her crazzy trying to figure out what's going on with the 700wx (all she knows is that there is software issues on the VZ network, but they are getting close???) ... anyway ... thought I'd throw that out for what's it's worth ... no details ... just that the I760 release date has been pushed back ... sorry ... but thought you'd like to know ... she's some kind of district big wig ... my gal pals her best buddy ... so ... she asked this gal to bowl with us ... she did and since then has been taking care of my company's account ... good deal ... so far she's been pretty savy on phone release info ... she got the black Q and the various chocolate's right .. for what that's worth ...

I think most of us expected that to happen. Oh well.

I saw it, but after seeing the i760 with the fully exposed number pad, thinner form factor and D pad that's easier to use in horizontal mode, in addition to my believe that the Samsung has a better build quality, I'm holding out for the i760.
My thoughts exactly!

VZW, It's 2009! Time to embrace technology, not suppress it. - oops too late I've moved on over to the iPhone w/ AT$T!
Would one be able to get one of these phones from VWZ and port ("unlock") it to be used on another carrier? (My small regional carrier doesn't have a contract with Samsung and never carries samsung devices...)
I know that Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, and other CDMA networks accept foreign ESN's all the time, you just have to be sure that it's on the same frequency.
MSN (mechanical serial number, from the device label) and ESN (electronic serial number, from a protected ROM area) are actually the same animal, but I've edited my post above to make this inclusive. Thanks for the heads up.
The handset isn't locked per se, but your carrier would have to agree to activate a "foreign" ESN/MSN on its network.
VZW and Sprint currently don't accept SNs for devices not branded for them. Others, however, may be more gracious...
As part of the activation, you would presumably need to install your carrier's own PRL file and custom apps, if any.
Let us know what your carrier says when you call.

It's a small company called Cellular South-- it's not out of the question that they would do that for me, they know me rather well and are familiar with my frustration about their lack of rang in terms of equipment and the slow adoption process they seem to be plagued with.
No custom apps, the 6700 I've got now isn't even branded with their logo, it's just got the generic UTStarcom badging. As for the PRL, would any Windows Mobile PRL file work (since they do have the 6700) or does it have to be device specific?

You would need to get a hold of the device, get the programming codes, and take it to their engineers. As long as their coverage is CDMA, they should be able to put the ESN/MSN number in their system and then manually program the phone to work on their network. As far as a PRL load goes, they might need to get a hold of the Samsung specific software to load it, but your provider should have it, or being able to get it to load a PRL in your phone. This is the tricky part to moving a phone from one carrier to next for CDMA technology, and if you don't load their specific PRL, you might be roaming (or at least it will say you are roaming) when you aren't, or it might show a home area when you are actually roaming.
The other downfall is the purchase price will probably be between $699 and $899 for no service contract, and just to purchase the phone. So pretty high price (this is looking back at the original cost of the i730 with no service).

They would be willing to activate it for me... passing it on to their engineers... yeaaaa, not so much.
The cost isn't an issue-- I can get one at the 2 year contract price once it's released.
OK, here's the above page translated into English (courtesy of Google). The original is actually Simplified Chinese.
What's odd is that the specs appear to be those of the Euro GSM SGH-i760 (which most know has the form factor and vertical slider of the ix30, the Intel/Marvell XScale Bulverde PXA-270 512MHz CPU, and WM5), not the CDMA SCH-i760 that debuted at CES. The photos, however, depict the SCH-i760.
So who knows what's going on with this sighting...
Hmm that's intersting: from the specs, the model number is SCH-i760, where the C stands for CDMA (vs. SGH-i760 which is the GSM model).
Yet the bands are 900/1800/1900/2100 MHz, which is tri-band GSM + UMTS, and it even says GPRS on the next line - which indicates this is the GSM model!?!?
