It appears that the number is some sort of work order number. Note how all the other numbers are between 17970 and 17982, and more or less in sequence. Then you see the i760 with a relatively ancient order (17719). More reason to believe that they had high expectations of a much earlier release.
Also, in web marketing, LP is a common abbreviation for a marketing Landing Page. RLP: [Retail] Landing Page?
The fact that I can't really afford it right now is my only consolation in such a torturous wait...
I think what ethan is saying is he knows the release date now (it has been confirmed) and he can give us a good idea on when it is going to be released at the end of this weekend. Here is to hoping that the 31st is the release date!
I am a noob to this forum and new to this site but I have to start by saying that this place rocks!
there was an earlier discussion regarding the GIN and Vcast services that are possibly going to be added to this amazing piece of equipment and there does not seem to be much happiness with it.
I will say that having several vacast phones over the past few years, I have felt that Vcast was just another excuse to suck my wallet dry of the few dollars I earn in this world (what ever happened to the barter system anyway).
Once I switched over to the 700w (and was eventually FRU'd to the 700wx), I sighed with relief knowing that I would be paying even more money for unlimited data access but I would not be subject to the limitations og Vcast or GIN.
But I now have two daughters that are both in Middle School and will have to travel (using the NYC transit system) and am now missing the opportunity to be able to track their locations using a chaperone/parent system capable phone.
If having the Get Applications plug in on the Today Screen includes the ability to make this sleek and stylish WM 6 PDA phone a (which does the iPhone does not compare to at all imho, I don't care what is posted here) Parent capable phone, I welcome it.
Thanks for all the information you all have posted over the last few months regarding this and I, like all of you have been waiting eagerly for its release for what seems like forever (January of this year).
I just started using a 700w myself and noticed that GPS tracking thing. I have to agree, for a parent that would be indispensable. (Full Disclosure: I don't have any kids)
As for Vcast and Get It Now!; You can create you own visual content with freeware video conversion programs for DVDS and videos you have, and the serious players in the mobile software game support PIE to sell their products.
I'm still getting a i760. It's so round, so smooth, so fully packed. I need less weight!
This now says new, where I believe before it said coming soon. Just another small tidbit hopefully announcing the release soon.
Of topic......does Ethan know anything about the new treo 800w?
Interesting info on the site, it shows both the vertical i760 (GSM and no face number keypad) out in Aug 07 as well as the CDMA version (keypad side slide) out in July 07. The July 'new' released i760 looks like the one we are all drooling over. I went to the top to 'PDA comparer' to look at the specs of the i730 compared to the i760. There are some inconsistencies in the old specs for the 730 (no support for speakerphone???) but it is encouraging to see our version out in July and the vertical GSM out in Aug.
Looking forward to the i760... can you feel it in the air.... soooooooon
(frothing at the fingers)

I got to play with a i760 today. One of my clients works for Samsung and he was carrying one. I was like a kid when i saw it.
I can't wait for my own.

Man, you're making me miss the days when I had a buddy that worked in STS PDA R&D division. He always had the latest Samsung PDA phones months ahead of time for us to see/touch/play with.
I still have friends @ STS, but they are just admins who are lucky to get whatever phone is given them.
Anyway, I nearly wet myself when I saw those photos...I hope this danged phone would hurry up!!!
Blurry accessory photos! boy are we hard up for any crumb we can find...HA!

4. To tie in the phone number to the business servers so the IT dept's job is easier to push mail with ALL types of attachments. {I cant tell you how this was done by MS yet but it was pretty cool the way they showed us and very safe too ( geez, I should caution myself on that statement I made )}
there were more but the NDA stops me from going further.
That said VZW truly wants to see if they can sell this to a new consumer base as in "younger generation" of today with SMS, TXT and Vcast and GIN. I think they will be going down the wrong road. But, hey they are driven by the almighty dollars.
Equus thanks for the update and an little insider info! Boy I hope you didn't invoke the wrath of the NDA thought police for this fine post...

Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.
From a SAMSUNG rep attending a Verizon Wireless Managers Conference:
- The i760 was being held up due to a 'chip issue' NOT a software/GIN issue
- said chip issue IS the Qualcomm? deal (with the import law thingy discussed in an earlier topic)
- said it WILL be realeased no later than 2nd week of August - 8th or 9th
- nothing is holding up release other than the 'chip deal which had been worked out'
he was suprised I knew about (1) said chip holdup and (2) release of product
additonally I spoke with some Verizon people who knew nothing of the 760 but of course praised the new Blackberry....I told them I may jump ship for an iPhone if nothing is released soon and there was a look of shock and disgust among the 5 of them standing in front of me
again, this is ONLY a rumor but coming from a Sammy rep I have more faith in what I have been told....2 weeks? lets hope!
1) i760 Pricing (frenchie, allgoodpeople and others): Surprisingly, the question of pricing has come up infrequently in this thread of 3,500+ posts (perhaps the second longest in PDAPhH history). We have no pricing intel on the i760 whatsoever and one reason is this: VZW will make the final call in the eleventh hour.
Based on competitive info, it's fair to say there's no chance the i760 will exceed $399/2-yr. Actually, a very good case can be made for $299/2-yr. AT&T announced 07/24 that 40 percent of iPhone buyers were ports from other carriers. VZW should heed this heads up.
We might also note that VZW would be reckless to fantasize that iPhone's $499/599 price points give it license to up the ante for the i760, a non-leadership WinMo device. The i760 is merely OK, and VZW's packet data charges are at least 2x AT&T's for iPhone ($20) and up to 3x Sprint's ($15).
Sprint's selling the HTC x6800/Mogul for $399/2-yr (less at least $100 for corp a/cs and retention deals).
AT&T's selling the HTC 8525 for $299 or less.
T-Mo's selling the HTC Wing for $299.99 (after $50 MIR).
Whether VZW/Sammy will attempt to jump-start sales with a rebate remains to be seen. Also, would someone research the current status of VZW's "ADD" (Advanceed Device Discount)? And then there's NE2 with which all are familiar.
The smartest thing VZW could do would be to drop the i760 at $199 for a limited intro period, but this won't happen. Look for $299.
2) GIN & VCast (perlmane's Q): ronmac's interest in location-based services to check his kids (yes, bgates22, done with triangulation) may be one of few justifiable excuses for GIN on this device. Still, GIN is not necessary to deploy this kind of app for PPC/smartphone users.

Astute observations that illustrate a sad but important truth: VZW did not design the i760 for us. Which is fine, but where's our i730 v2.0?!
3) "RLP": Very good research effort, thatquietkid122, and reasonable stab, SpltScreen, but
smeagoldeagol is correct. "LP" is Landing Page in Web parlance, and even appears elsewhere on the VZW spreadsheet linked from BigPandaDaddy's HoFo post. "R" could mean Resource or Retail, not important. VZW's punchlist notes that a redirect (perhaps from a "coming soon" banner) to a new i760 product page needs to be created. (More effort to write up the assignmeent than to do it, lol.)
4) i760 Release Date: All roads currently point to late August B2B and early Sept retail. "Ethan" needs to revisit the House of Lords (or is it the House of Blues?) and get us a confirm.
Carry on.

P.S. equus, no reason to doubt your statement about VZW legal, but if this means BRCM v QCOM, hard to believe as this device should be grandfathered.

Price: I would be ok paying no more than $299 for a device that should have come out last year.
Legal: This was probably a good faith effort on VZW's part. They didn’t want to muddy the waters during negotiations.

Ok, Ethan woke me up this morning on his way in to work. He said we should actually hear/see something from Verizon by August 9 in terms of a potential announcement that the product exists and to start to build some hype. He said that the device should be available for purchase no later than August 23, but wouldn't tell me an exact date. I am going back to bed, got called for a support issue and was up till 5 AM, need more sleep.
